Obviously one of the biggest things to know about Maddie Corman right now, at least one of the biggest things that’s in the news, has to do with her husband Jace Alexander’s guilty plea after being caught with child pornography on his computer. I won’t dive into that too much except to say that she’s starred in an autobiographical play titled Accidentally Brave, which details the family’s ordeal after this happened. Some might want to think that this would be a mistake since airing this kind of thing even further to the public might draw even more unwanted attention to

John Sayles’ coal strike epic is grand American filmmaking bolstered by fine Haskell Wexler cinematography, great performances by dedicated actors, and a screenplay that avoids the common pitfalls of liberal filmmaking — by assuming the structure of an action Western. Filmed on a shoestring not far from the site of historical events, the pro- Union picture revs up viewer emotions, winding up as a moving, satisfying experience. Matewan’s been out of circulation far too long, but those that remember it will give it a high recommendation.

Lifetime's 'Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret': 'She was deeply in love,' says director Jace Alexander
There was once a time that weeks or months or even years would pass between an incident and the movie made about it. But in a modern TV world of instant gratification, apparently now a story can be put on film before its climax has even happened in real life.
On May 8, a jury in Maricopa County, Ariz., returned a verdict of guilty on the charge of first-degree murder in the case of 32-year-old Californian Jodi Arias, a high-school dropout who pursued photography while working at a restaurant and in sales at PrePaid Legal Services.

If you’re wondering how Lifetime’s Jodi Arias biopic Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret can premiere mere weeks after the sensational months-long trial came to a close, the answer is surprisingly simple. The filmmakers say they always intended for the movie to focus on the doomed lovers at the trial’s bloodstained heart — Arias and her victim Travis Alexander — before their final, fatal encounter. “We didn’t set out to make a courtroom drama, because that’s not what fascinated us about this story,” says director Jace Alexander (Law & Order, Rescue Me), who is no relation to Travis Alexander. “The courtroom [...]

Three Inches, the Syfy pilot with James Marsters and Stephanie Jacobsen that didn't get ordered to series, airs tonight at 9 pm Et on Syfy.
To recap, the network ordered the 90-minute pilot back in the spring of 2010. It was filmed in September in Toronto and, in December, Syfy decided to pick up Alphas instead, and to tweak Three Inches into a half-hour because the two were conceptually similar.
Six months went by with no news, and then in July word came from James' Fb page that Syfy would not be giving Three Inches a full season, but that the pilot would air eventually. Well, that's tonight.
Here is the synopsis, from ScienceFiction.com:
In Three Inches, professional daydreamer and underachiever, Walter Spackman (Noah Reid) is struck by lightning, and develops a unique “super” power — the ability to move any object using just his mind… but only a distance of three inches.

Our post about gay actors playing straight characters got us thinking about the flipside, straight actors playing gay characters.
But a list of straight actors successfully playing gay would be obvious (Tom Hanks, Heath Ledger, Phillip Seymour Hoffman) and frankly dull. So we decided instead to sharpen our knives and make a list that's a hell of a lot more fun.
Straight actors who crashed and burned attempting to play gay.
Most of these performances rely on cliche and stereotype, and to be fair, a lot of our favorite gay performances from straight actors do lean heavily on the flamboyant. But actors such as Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) manage to inject warmth, heart, and sincerity into the theatrics.
These actors, on the other hand, either try way too hard, or not hard enough, and embarrass themselves ... and us.

Gazing out upon the vast tapestry of Pajiban creeds and customs, I am certain that this time of year is feted is various ways. Whether you cherish Hannukah, Christmas, Ramadan, Yule, Kwanzaa, Decemberween or -- as my Jehovah's Witness friends call it -- Thursday, the holidays are about one thing: spending time with loved ones. This is usually accomplished in about 14 minutes. Then the rest of the time is spent caustically avoiding speaking to one another, drinking copious amounts of liquored nog, and remembering why you moved across the country and lost everyone's email address and phone numbers in the first place. Much of this awkwardness is spent sitting in some strange smelling house, a plate of half-eaten pie sitting in front of you, staring dully at a television while tuning out the mindless banter of distant aunts and uncles who are trying to figure out "why you aren't a...

It is usually a great problem for networks to have when all the pilots they've orderered come in strong. But, in the case of Syfy's similarly-themed Alphas and Three Inches, it created a dilemma. To increase its chances of success, the network ordered two such pilots, Alphas and Three Inches, "that were slightly different in tone but very similar in subject matter," said Syfy Evp original content Mark Stern. Alphas, from BermanBraun, in-house studio Ucp, writers Zak Penn and Michael Karnow and director Jack Bender, stars David Strathairn and follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills. Three Inches, from writer Harley Peyton, director Jace Alexander and Fox TV Studios, centers on an underachiever (Noah Reid) who can move any object three inches with his mind and recruits a team of fellow heroes.

Exclusive: Canadian actor Noah Reid has landed the lead in SyFy's pilot Three Inches. The project, from Fox TV Studios and Landscape Entertainment, centers on Walter (Reid), a twentysomething underachiever who acquires a seemingly worthless superpower after getting struck by lightning: he can move any object three inches with his mind. He goes on to recruit a team of fellow heroes, each with their own less-than-spectacular abilities. Jace Alexander is set to direct the pilot from a script by Harley Peyton. Reid, who has appeared on a number of Canadian series, is repped by Toronto's Gary Goddard Agency. Three Inches is one of two pilots SyFy has in the works, along with Alphas.

Wow! There's not too much coming out on DVD this week but I grabbed a few to highlight for you all. There may only be a few but they are good ones in my opinion.
Hot Tub Time Machine
Fueled by energy drinks, vodka and nostalgia for their younger, wilder days, a group of aging best friends travels back in time to 1987, where they get the chance to relive the best year of their lives. And their time machine? Well, it's a hot tub. John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, Clark Duke, Crispin Glover and Sebastian Stan co-star in this out-of-the-box comedy that takes time travel to a whole new level.
Starring: John Cusack, Craig Robinson
Director: Steve Pink
This movie is awesome! To be fair I think the older you are the more awesome it becomes. There's so many great flashbacks to the 80's and the soundtrack is amazing!

After Rand Ravich's critically and fan acclaimed but vastly under-watched 'Life' was canceled by NBC many have been waiting on progress of his next project, the quirky 'Edgar Floats', about a police psychologist (Tom Cavanagh, 'Ed') who starts a new career as a bounty hunter for his ex's father-in-law (Robert Patrick, 'The X-Files'). The pilot didn't make the cut at ABC's upfronts, but made a comeback when the network finally ordered six more scripts (which are currently being written), a sign that they were not only interested in the direction Ravich would take the series, but giving it a chance of making the mid-season schedule.
However, last night it emerged that ABC have culled almost the entire cast, including Cavanagh, Alicia Witt (who would've played Edgar's ex-wife), Derek Webster, Alex Solowitz, and Raoul Trujillo. Robert Patrick was the only one to survive the casting bloodbath.

Last month, ABC’s drama pilot Edgar Floats received a second lease on life with a six-script order that came days after the project missed the cut for a pre-upfront series order by ABC. But if the drama from writer Rand Ravich gets to a new production order (it is eyed for a potential midseason series pickup), it will be with almost entirely new cast. Of the actors in the original pilot, which was directed by Jace Alexander, only co-star Robert Patrick is staying on as all the others have been released. That includes star Tom Cavanagh, co-stars Alicia Witt and Derek Webster [...]...

Exclusive: ABC’s drama pilot Edgar Floats is living up to its name, staying afloat despite missing the cut for a series order from the network this week. ABC has ordered six additional scripts from the project, from Warner Bros. TV and writer Rand Ravich. Edgar Floats stars Tom Cavanagh as a police psychologist who becomes a bounty hunter. Both Ravich’s script and the pilot directed by Jace Alexander received good marks but some suggested Edgar might be too quirky and character driven for broadcast and feels more like a cable series. There were even some rumblings that the pilot could [...]...

Simon West, who last year helmed the pilot for Fox's action drama "Human Target," is back on pilot-directing duty this season with NBC's drama "The Cape," about a former cop-turned-masked hero.
Meanwhile, in a sign that broadcast networks are looking to emulate the light, quirky feel of USA Network series for their crop of shows, a pair of hot USA pilot directors -- Jace Alexander and Bronwen Hughes -- are making a transition to broadcast pilots.
Alexander, who helmed the pilots for USA's hits "Burn Notice" and Royal Pains" as well as the pilot for Syfy's breakout dramedy "Warehouse 13," is tapped to direct ABC's drama pilot "Edgar Floats," about a police psychologist-turned-bounty hunter. Hughes, helmer of the pilot for USA's "White Collar" and the cable net's latest pilot, "Facing Kate," is on board to direct another ABC hourlong pilot, the dramedy "Cutthroat," about a Beverly Hills mom running a drug cartel.

For quite a while, Syfy (the network formerly known, until yesterday, as the Sci Fi Channel) has been teasing viewers with ads for a TV series that looked to be a hybrid of Eureka and The X-Files. Drew Greenberg’s Warehouse 13 made its formal debut last night, and the show slips a bit outside its predictions. Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) and Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly), two Secret Service agents of varying abilities, are reassigned to work at the titular location: a rusting and rambling structure in South Dakota in which is hidden all matters of strange stuff that the U.S. government has collected. Within a few days of their arrival, the agents are sent to investigate what seems to be a simple case of domestic violence, but which gradually shapes into the sort of weirdness typically associated with contemporary Sf episodic programs. In the case of this debut...
