Frank Farian, the mastermind producer responsible for the groups Milli Vanilli, Boney M., La Bouche, and more, has died. He was 82 years old.
Over the course of his six-decade career, Farian saw considerable success as a songwriter and producer, but his time as the mastermind behind Milli Vanilli — and their infamous lip-syncing controversy — is likely what most remember him for. Farian first met the group’s frontmen, Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan, in Frankfurt, and signed a contract with them in January 1988, locking them into a deal.
Then, dissatisfied with the quality of the group’s vocal performances, Farian employed session vocalists — including Charles Shaw, John Davis, Brad Howell, and others — to provide the lead vocal parts for the duo’s recordings, leading to an arrangement where Pilatus and Morvan, against their desires, lip-synced the parts that they claimed to be singing themselves.

Some classic rock stars managed to influence nearly every rocker who came after them. One of Elvis Presley’s songs inspired Meat Loaf’s “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.” In fact, “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” tune took some of Elvis’ lyrics and made them a lot darker. The song went on to change Meat Loaf’s life.
Meat Loaf’s ‘Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad’ was desperately written as an Elvis Presley tribute
Jim Steinman was a songwriter who wrote big, dramatic power ballads such as Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me.” He also worked on Meat Loaf’s two most famous albums: Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell. In an interview on JimSteinman.com, Steinmen discussed the conception of “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.

Oh God, it’s coming! It’s coming! Yes folks, the climax of Netflix’s coming-of-age comedy drama Sex Education is almost upon us. With just over a week to go until the fourth and final season of the smash-hit show lands on the streamer, we finally have a full trailer to obsess over. Check it out below:
Following the dramatic ending of last season, which saw Moordale Secondary School shut down after the students mounted a rebellion against headmistress Hope Haddon (Jemima Kirke), this final series is set to see Otis (Asa Butterfield), Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and pals tackling a new set of challenges as they start afresh at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Introduced over a brilliantly chosen rendition of Meat Loaf’s ‘I Would Do Anything For Love’ in the new trailer, Cavendish is a forward-thinking, progressive, inclusive utopia. It’s certainly an upgrade from Moordale, but for Otis,...

If you’re a fan of cinema, you’ve likely seen and possibly indulged in the twists and turns of David Fincher’s revolutionary film, Fight Club. The film stars Edward Norton and Brad Pitt as well as Helena Bonham Carter, the late Meat Loaf, and Jared Leto. It’s a film that has speculated on endlessly since its release in 1999. The movie follows an un-named narrator (Norton) as he slowly unravels a deep-rooted secret that will change the way he sees himself, and the world. Fight Club is based on the novel of the same name by controversial author Chuck Palahniuk who has never outright stated the story’s true meaning. The film openly deals with themes of toxic masculinity, grief, mental health, and even identity crisis. It’s a film that is shot intentionally to be rewatched as there are hidden references and easter eggs in almost every frame of the feature.

You’ve seen “Onyx The Fortuitous” on Youtube where he hijacks news reports with his odd personality and motormouth. Now he is coming to the big screen with his full-length feature Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls, written, directed and starring Andrew Bowser, based on his internet-famous character also known as the “Weird Satanist Guy.” After a successful crowdfunding campaign to finance part of the production, the throwback horror comedy has been shown at Sundance, Glasgow FrightFest, and more recently, Fantasia Film Fest.
My first exposure to Onyx the Fortuitous was hearing his voice in the intro of Iron Reagan’s 12-second banger “Your Kid’s An Asshole”. Wanting to find the source of said sample, I stumbled upon his viral videos and wondered if this guy was for real and, if so, how did he manage to always be in the right place at the right time to get an interview?...

We all have our favorite movies, and they may have changed over time. As a child, there was nothing better than “The Last Starfighter” and “The Neverending Story,” I couldn’t wait to go back to my grandparents to catch them on HBO (we didn’t have cable in the country). And I would go back in time and wait in that ridiculously long line to watch “Batman” in theaters again.

I have a little ritual when it comes to animated films. I try to go into them not knowing who the cast members are. That’s not always possible, of course. For the most part, though, I do my best to ignore the publicity and let the voices I hear surprise me — because if you don’t know who the actors are, you respond, I think, in a less biased and more spontaneous way. “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” made my crusade easy, since the film has no opening credits. From the earliest moments, I had no idea who was voicing any of the characters. But I did know this: When the villain, a gigantic fire-breathing horned turtle named Bowser, showed up in his studded-leather arm bands, lowered his fire-red eyebrows into a gleaming, gap-toothed grin of the most insidious megalomania and began to push and order people around, all I could think was,...

The Beatles’ “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da” was voted the worst song of all time in a poll of 1,000 people. The song is nowhere near the disaster the poll claims it is. “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da” works better in the context of The White Album. The Beatles | John Pratt / Stringer
The Beatles‘ “Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da” has a bad reputation. In fact, it topped a poll to find the worst song of all time. Despite this, it’s a much better song than a lot of the critics seem to think.
The polled listeners who hated The Beatles’ ‘Ob-la-Di, Ob-la-Da’ also hated Meat Loaf
According to a 2004 report from the BBC, a Mars Research poll of 1,000 people sought to determine the worst song of all time. No. 3 was Meat Loaf’s “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That).” No. 2 was “Fog On The Tyne” by the soccer player Paul Gascoigne.

James Ijames Pulitzer Prize-winning “Fat Ham,” which opened to strong reviews on Broadway April 12 after a Sro engagement at the Public Theater, is the latest reinvention of a Shakespeare play. A strong contender for multiple Tony nominations is set at a Southern cookout where a queer black college student named Juicy (Marcel Spears) is dealing with a lot of issues including identity, the ghost of his dead father and the fact that his mother recently married his uncle.

Those who metal together, stay together! In that spirit, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian was joined by his wife Pearl Aday and 11-year-old son Revel onstage to perform Black Sabbath’s “Symptom of the Universe” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” at a recent gig.
The performance, which also featured guitarist Zach Throne and bass player Joey Vera, happened Tuesday night (March 28th) at “Ultimate Jam Night” at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California. This week’s “Ultimate Jam Night” raised funds for Animal Tracks, a California sanctuary for endangered animals.
Aday, daughter of the late Meat Loaf, is an accomplished singer herself, and belted out powerful renditions of the iconic rock songs. Revel, meanwhile, has wowed us in the past with his drumming, and he manned the kit like a champ.
Ian later took to Instagram to write, “Family Band!!! Getting to jam Symptom of the...

In the age of streaming television, horror is alive and well. Shows like "Stranger Things" and "Wednesday" are topping Netflix's charts, "What We Do in the Shadows" continues to prove series adaptations of movies can be even better than the source material, and although "The Walking Dead" came to a conclusion with its 11th season, its multiple spin-offs are certain to keep its spirit shambling along for years to come. But what if you're looking for something off the beaten path?
The good news is that there's a whole world of horror television lurking in the shadows, hungrily waiting for its next captive audience. From old-school anthology series to a Danish supernatural hospital drama, or even obscure relics of the Y2K age, we've put together a lineup of forgotten or simply underappreciated shows that are worth checking out. While some of these might take a little elbow grease...

Even if you've never seen the 1992 film "Wayne's World," you probably know about the scene where the main characters sing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the car. It's one of those film moments that stick in your head forever. "Wayne's World" was based on the recurring "Saturday Night Live" sketch created by star Mike Myers in which his character Wayne Campbell and his best friend Garth Algar (Dana Carvey) host a cable access show in Wayne's mom's basement. In fact, it was only the second feature film based on an "SNL" sketch after "Blues Brothers" and the first to get a sequel.
On the fictional show, Wayne and Garth waxed poetic about women, cool stuff, and the music they love. The film and the sketch spawned a ton of lines that people (me ... I mean me) still quote like, "Party on," "Scheah, as if," "And monkeys will fly out of my butt,...

Dilley is congenitally blind and uses a guide dog, but was able to “instinctively” leap on the alleged perpetrator after his phone was snatched from his hand.
According to Dilley, the assailant was riding a bike when he grabbed his phone.

This article contains light spoilers for Interview with the Vampire through episode 4.
Based on Anne Rice‘s iconic 1976 novel, AMC’s Interview with The Vampire follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), the first eternal creature who subsisted on the blood of other living creatures to go public as a vampire. He told his story to a young, unnamed reporter in 1973, and it set off a chain of events which led to The Vampire Chronicles. The series is set 50 years later, in the current Covid-19 pandemic era of 2022. The interviewer, Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), is no longer the young, drug-fueled, ace reporter wannabe. He crashed, dropped his family along the way, and is teaching classes about revisionist history on Zoom feeds.
The series tackles the problem of rewrites head-on in its very first scene. Louis would like to remix those tapes. He isn’t comfortable with the first telling,...

Beck has dropped out of supporting Arcade Fire’s US tour just six weeks after Feist quit the European leg.
The musician did not cite any reasons for quitting his role as the band’s supporting act, unlike Feist who released a statement about the allegations facing Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler.
In an email sent to ticket buyers (via Variety), Beck was described only as “unfortunately no longer able to join Arcade Fire on their upcoming North American tour. Taking his place will be Boukman Eksperyans.”
He was due to support the band from 27 October for 18 concerts ending in Toronto on 1 December.
The Independent has contacted Beck’s representatives for comments.
Four accusers have spoken out against the musician, accusing him of sexual misconduct between 2015 and 2020.
Butler denies the allegations but has apologised “to anyone who I have hurt with my behaviour”.

The Independent has contacted Beck’s representatives for comments.
Four accusers have spoken out against the musician, accusing him of sexual misconduct between 2015 and 2020.

Meat Loaf’s Bat Out Of Hell has been named the biggest-selling debut album in UK history.
The record has sold more than 3.5 million copies in the UK since it was released in 1977 and has spent a total of 530 weeks in the Top 100 chart.
It beats James Blunt’s Back To Bedlam, Leona Lewis’s Spirit and Lady Gaga’s The Fame in a list compiled for National Album Day.
The top 20 also features debut albums by the likes of the Spice Girls, Alanis Morissette, Sam Smith, Adele and Coldplay and will be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday (15 October).
Presenter Steve Wright said: “Bat Out Of Hell reaching number one might be a surprise to some, but it is a truly brilliant debut album and one which reached a whole new audience following the sad passing of Meat Loaf earlier this year.”

In the early 2000s, Jack Black was having a moment. Richard Linklater’s School of Rock made him an unlikely leading man, with the film grossing 131 million worldwide. He was in high demand and bankable, so the time was right to finally produce his passion project – a film showcase for his cult two-person band, Tenacious D. The film, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny would be a big flop, only grossing 13 million worldwide. Still, in the years that followed, the film would become a kind of secret success, doing well on DVD and becoming a cult hit.
Indeed, all involved had good intentions going into this. Black was a massive star and cut his salary from a whopping 12 million to 1 million to get it made, and he would split the fee with his bandmate Kyle Gass. The movie would feature a who’s who of rock star cameos, including Meat Loaf,...

The 2022 Grammys featured an emotional performance from Rachel Zegler, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., and Ben Platt. Their performance accompanied the In Memoriam montage, and they only sang songs by Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim, who wrote music for shows including "West Side Story," "Sweeney Todd, "Sunday in the Park With George," and "Company," died in November 2021 at the age of 91. During his lifetime, he was nominated for Grammys 17 times, winning seven times. He also received the Grammy's trustees award in 2008.
The group sang a montage of the Sondheim songs "Not a Day Goes By" from "Merrily We Roll Along," "Send In the Clowns" from "A Little Night Music," and "Somewhere" from "West Side Story." "Send In the Clowns" won the award for song of the year in 1976.

The In Memoriam segment at the 64th Grammy Awards on Sunday, April 3, kicked off with a fast-paced montage of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in action, honoring the 50-year-old rocker who died just days before he would have performed with his bandmates at the awards show. But then the In Memoriam segment shifted gears to honor another late music legend, Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, the towering talent who died at age 91 last November. Dear Evan Hansen star Ben Platt took the stage first, singing “Not a Day Goes By” from the musical Merrily We Roll Along. Meanwhile, a slideshow of photos behind the performers honored other music stars we lost in the past year, including Biz Markie, Charlie Watts, Meat Loaf, and Young Dolph. Who will be included for the special “In Memoriam” segment for Sunday night’s Oscars 2022 ceremony? For almost all other Academy Awards productions since the 1990s, producers typically select 40-50 people from the various branches. The 2021 segment had close to 100 people in a particularly fast-paced three minutes that was not very well-received since many of them were only on screen for a second or two.

Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will return to its normal two-hour live format on TNT and TBS. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute. The 2021 segment saluted 55 people because they had responsibility for 14 months instead of 12.
Among that group will certainly be previous SAG president Ed Asner, who was also a life achievement award recipient. That honorary award was also presented to Sidney Poitier and Betty White, who both died this past year.

Wayne’s World is celebrating its 30-year anniversary and it’s party time. Excellent. Originally released on Feb. 14, 1992, and most recently re-released in a Blu-ray Steelbook edition, it brought Mike Myers and Dana Carvey’s lo-fi cable hosts Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar from weekly segment appearances on Saturday Night Live to global domination on the big screen.
Written by Myers, Bonnie Turner, and Terry Turner, Wayne’s World wasn’t expected to be a hit, much less a comedy classic with a $183 million worldwide box office take, and a sequel. It defied convention, enthusiastically breaking the fourth wall with characters directly addressing the camera, and exploring self-referential jokes, random cultural spoofs, and self-fulfilling alternative ending gags.
Also starring Rob Lowe, Tia Carrere, Lara Flynn Boyle, Brian Doyle-Murray, Chris Farley, Ed O’Neill, and Ione Skye, Wayne’s World captured every key demographic. Advertisers begged to get spoofed in the product placement take-down takeoffs,...

We’re not worthy of this level of dedication.
Ahead of the 30th anniversary of “Wayne’s World,” which was released on February 14, 1992, director Penelope Spheeris revisited filming the classic comedy and shared what really went down behind the scenes.
That iconic “Bohemian Rhapsody” sing-a-long? Yep, it took almost a full day to film.
“We were towing the car down the streets in Covina,” Spheeris told The Hollywood Reporter. “I had cameras all over the car because I needed the coverage for the title sequence. The guys were complaining after a while — and I don’t blame them — as they were head-banging for six or eight hours. Unless you’re Dave [Mustaine] from Megadeth, you’re not used to having your head bang about like that. So it was very uncomfortable for them and, I was asked to stop a couple of times. And the rest of history.”

“We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” the surprise hit off the “Encanto” soundtrack, has gone where even “Let It Go” couldn’t: It’s become the first song from a Disney movie to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart since “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” did it in 1993.
It joins the “Encanto” album itself as a chart-topper, as the animated film’s soundtrack remains atop the Billboard 200 chart for the third time in the last four weeks.
Some other stats Billboard points out: “Bruno,” solely penned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, becomes the first Hot 100 chart-topper to have been written by a solo writer in more than four years, Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” having been the last. It’s the first time a Miranda tune has topped the chart. And it’s only the second time a Disney song has reached the top, since “A Whole New World” was the...

When powerhouse vocalist-actor Meat Loaf eulogized composer-producer Jim Steinman last April in Rolling Stone, the singer – who died Thursday at age 74 – said of his “Bat Out of Hell” partner, “We belonged heart and soul to each other. We didn’t know each other. We were each other.”
Meat Loaf (born Marvin Lee Aday) could not have stated the obvious better, as each man’s operatic, oversized talents were only matched by their level of grand theatricality, with thundering melodicism and melodramatic lyricism at the top of the list of their skill sets.
The best Meat Loaf songs – even those without Steinman’s tower-toppling compositions – come on in an epic, adrenalized rush. Even when singing a power ballad, Meat Loaf was loud and brazenly and heartbrokenly emotive. Here are some of the most dramatic and impactful of Meal Loaf’s musical moments:

Meat Loaf, who died Thursday at 74, will always be remembered for his contributions to rock music, but his career also spanned iconic films such as “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and David Fincher’s “Fight Club.” The musician starred opposite Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in the latter as bodybuilder Robert “Bob” Paulson. As Meat Loaf revealed to The Av Club in a 2016 interview (via Insider), his time making “Fight Club” involved more than just acting.
“I hardly spent any time in my trailer for almost 10 months,” Meat Loaf said at the time. “I sat next to David the entire time.
