Former Will + Grace co-stars Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes are set to star in a spin-off of the hit comedy.
The pair will reprise their camp double-act in Karen + Jack, which is currently in development at network NBC.
According to sources, Hayes was keen on a spin-off soon after Will + Grace ended in 2006 - but was put off by the failure of Matt LeBlanc's Friends follow-on Joey.
Plans were then derailed when Mullally landed a talk show - but that flopped, throwing the pair back together again.
The insider tells the National Enquirer, "They feel there is still a lot of life left in their characters and a lot of comic possibilities."
If a pilot episode is successful, Karen + Jack could be on the air in the U.S. next autumn.

Former Friends star Matt Le Blanc has quietly settled a legal spat with his former business manager.
Camille Cerio claimed the actor owed her over $1 million (GBP540,000) in commission after breaching a contract.
Her suit prompted an angry Le Blanc to call for Cerio to undergo a mental evaluation in July, insisting his former aide was suffering from a "major depressive disorder".
But the two parties settled the matter out of court at the end of last month, and the agreement papers have just been filed in Los Angeles.
Details of the settlement have not been disclosed.

Latest: Matt LeBlanc has hit back at his former business manager's claims he owes her commission by requesting a judge order her to undergo a mental evaluation.
Camille Cerio filed suit against the former Friends star for breach of contract last August, claiming he stopped paying her in 2000 and now owes her fees of over $1 million (GBP500,000).
But in a motion filed on Tuesday, LeBlanc alleges Cerio has a "major depressive disorder" and asks that she be evaluated by a court-appointed psychologist.
A hearing is set for 13 August, reports TMZ.com.

Former Friends star Matt LeBlanc is heading to court after allegedly failing to pay his former business manager $1 million (GBP500,000).
Camille Cerio is suing the actor for breach of contract and claims he owes her commission for managing his career.
LeBlanc maintains he has paid Cerio more than $200,000 (GBP100,000) in payments, but in a lawsuit filed at Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this month (2Jul08), Cerio claims the amount is nothing compared to his royalties from Friends and spin-off Joey.
Cerio claims that LeBlanc agreed to cut her 15 per cent from all the pilots, but stopped paying her in 2000.
The trial is scheduled on 22 September.

Last week the Daily Mail posted a story about the possibility of a “Friends” movie, but as it turns out, those rumors were indeed just rumors.
In the article, a source told the Daily Mail that Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer are all eager to reprise their roles from the TV show for a big-screen version.
According to Ok! Magazine, that’s just completely false. Soon after the Daily Mail published the story, representatives of some of the aforementioned actors stepped forward to deny the rumors.
Apparently, Matthew Perry’s and David Schwimmer’s reps said that nobody is talking about a “Friends” movie at this stage, while a spokesperson for Jennifer Aniston said she knew nothing about such a project either. Click here to read what they had to say about it.
Well there you have it. At least for now,

It was reported earlier this week that a big screen adaptation of the Us sitcom is being lined up for release within the next 18 months. Latest: A representative for Warner Bros film studio has quashed speculation of a Friends reunion movie.
The hit TV sitcom - which starred Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc - came to an end in 2004 after a 10-year run.
It was rumoured earlier this week (begs30Jun08) that Cox and Aniston were keen to reprise their roles for a movie version of the show, as long as the story was right.
They were alleged to have been inspired by the massive box office success of Sex and the City: The Movie, which was turned from a TV series into a big-screen film earlier this year.
But the claims have been refuted by executives at Warner Bros, the studio behind Friends.
Jayne Trotman, Warner's director of publicity in the U.K., says, "(There's) no truth in the story."
And publicists for both Cox and Perry have also stepped in to deny the rumours.
Perry's spokeswoman, Lisa Kasteler, adds, "Nothing is happening in this regard, so the rumour is false."

Actresses Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox are reportedly keen to turn hit TV show Friends into a movie after witnessing the box office draw of Sex And The City: The Movie.
Friends came to an end in 2004 after a 10-year run.
Rumours of a reunion have repeatedly been denied by former castmembers Cox, Aniston, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow.
But now it appears the stars may be ready to return to Central Perk to cash in on the sitcom's popularity following the success of Sex and the City, which was turned from a TV series into a big-screen film earlier this year.
A source says, "Jennifer, Courteney and the rest of the cast are keen to reprise their roles, under the right circumstances.
"The box office success of Sex and the City has really got their wheels spinning about how a Friends film could be just as big, if done right.
"Jennifer says she and Courteney have already talked this summer about what they want out of a Friends movie."
The news comes just one month after it was revealed Cox's controversial TV drama Dirt was cancelled by network bosses at FX after just two seasons.
Sex and the City: The Movie, which stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall, has grossed more than $300 million (GBP150 million) to date worldwide since its release in May.

Now that the big-screen adaptation of “Sex and the City” has proven to be a box office hit, it’s time for other TV series to make the jump to the feature film format. Although none (!) of this is confirmed, the Daily Mail reports “Friends” may be the next show to hit the big screen.
Apparently, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer are eager to reprise their roles from the successful TV series.
The Daily Mail article quotes a source as saying “'Timing and the script are really important, but now that Courteney and Jen both have production companies, they can potentially get very involved in those decisions.”
I have to admit I never was a huge fan of the show, but with the right script, this big-screen version could have some potential. If it does ever happen, box office success is guaranteed.
