The dystopian sci-fi film "Logan's Run" is set in a supposedly idyllic future society where residents above 30 mysteriously disappear. The hedonistic metropolis is enclosed by a dome, and those who choose to explore the world outside — and the secrets that it holds — are labeled "runners." Michael York stars in the film as the titular protagonist, an undercover police officer who infiltrates the runners only to find that he, too, opposes the laws that he once worked to uphold and helps them lead an uprising.

The futuristic set and costume design were almost identical to the smash-hit sci-fi adventure film "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope," which was released the following year. It's possible that "Star Wars" even drew inspiration from the 1976 film. However,...

An American Werewolf in London video puts Elmer Bernstein’s rejected music over transformation scene
Writer/director John Landis always intended to use Sam Cooke’s version of the song “Blue Moon” over the famous transformation scene in his 1981 classic An American Werewolf in London (watch it Here), and he let the film’s composer Elmer Bernstein know that up front. He chose “Blue Moon” because he wanted the scene to come off as being sad and painful rather than scary – but while putting together the score for the film, Bernstein decided to go ahead and compose some of his own music for the transformation scene. Just in case. Landis ended up rejecting Bernstein’s transformation music and stuck with “Blue Moon”… but now filmmaker Paul Davis, who generously shared 35 minutes of rare outtake footage from The Exorcist on Halloween this year, has put Bernstein’s rejected music over the transformation scene and uploaded it to YouTube. You can check it out in the embed...

In the 1960s, there were few cameramen who shared Nicolas Roeg’s ability to render sirenic, jittery sensuality at 24 frames per second—and this was an era whose dominant culture arguably cracked open and redefined the sensual palate. Even more impressively, Roeg’s gift often manifested itself most lucidly while serving the orgiastic gimmicks of Roger Corman’s The Masque of the Red Mask and the bucolic splendor of John Schlesinger’s Far from the Madding Crowd with the guarded glee of a merry prankster spiking a corporate water cooler with LSD.
But it’s not just that Roeg successfully snuck timely art into the mise-en-scène of those and other studio-centric films, it’s that he seemed incapable of recording anything but subtle art within whatever limitations his aspect ratio enforced. And so while Walkabout may have been his proper directorial debut, it’s far more significantly his final cinematographic statement.

With a prominent recurring part on “Game of Thrones” and now a starring role on “The Last of Us,” HBO darling Bella Ramsey, age 19, has already built a career that would be the envy of any actor. Having previously clinched a BAFTA Award for Netflix’s “The Worst Witch”, she is now quite a serious contender heading into the 2023 Best Drama Actress Emmy race. If the teen triumphs for “The Last of Us” at the 75th annual ceremony, which is scheduled to precede her 20th birthday by 12 days, she will set new precedents as both the youngest champion in her category’s history and the youngest person to ever win a lead acting Emmy for a continuing series.
“The Last of Us,” which was renewed for a second season almost immediately after the premiere of its first, is based on the 2013 PlayStation game of the same name and stars Ramsey...

Director John Sturges’ final feature is a handsome production that fumbles and stumbles in unexpected ways. Michael Caine and especially Donald Sutherland lead an impossible commando mission to kidnap Winston Churchill right from English soil. Tom Mankiewicz’s dialogue is witty but the tone is all over the place. We don’t know whether it’s the script, the direction or the editing that muffs so many potential bravura moments. On the other hand, every scene with Sutherland and Jenny Agutter is gold. [Imprint] gives us both a theatrical cut and a more satisfying extended cut.

If you pay close attention to the background of John Landis' innovative 1981 horror-comedy "An American Werewolf in London," you will notice there are numerous Disney-related items placed throughout the character Alex's (Jenny Agutter) apartment. Indeed, she has Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck figurines in her living room, along with a poster of Mickey Mouse adorning her hallway.
Landis carefully and deliberately moves the camera to include these Disney figures in the film's shots, often placing them alongside the main characters in such a way that it draws attention away from the latter. There's even a scene where leads David (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) walk through Alex's hallway and Jack stops to smell a flower, only for the camera to suddenly shift so as to bring Alex's Mickey Mouse picture into the frame. When David looks at Alex's television, there is likewise a Minnie Mouse statue coyly smiling on top of it.

To anyone in their 20s, Michael Anderson's 1976 sci-fi film "Logan's Run" remains a pop culture fulcrum of anxiety. Based on the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, "Logan's Run" is set in the distant future of 2274 where the human population has been gathered in high-tech, dome-enclosed living facilities where their every wish is granted by an elaborate computer system. Everyone is young and attractive, and sex partners of any gender identity can be dialed up on a local roulette system.

In a new interview, actress Jenny Agutter claimed that Hollywood star Tom Cruise keeps disrupting the filming of BBC’s ‘Call the Midwife’. “Tom Cruise keeps on ruining our filming by landing his helicopter right outside where we’re shooting,” the 69-year-old actress told Mirror of the “Top Gun: Maverick” actor, reports aceshowbiz.com.
According to Agutter , who plays Sister Julienne on the drama, Cruise flew his helicopter over the ‘Midwife’ set in Surrey, England, causing a ruckus while the cast attempted to shoot scenes. He appeared to be filming ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two’ in the town.
When asked if she would give Tom a talking-to about his allegedly rude chopper habits, the ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ actress replied: “In my habit! Imagine. ‘Excuse me, Tom, but look, we’re trying to film. I don’t know about you, but just get your helicopter out of here quickly!

Tom Cruise is in the midst of filming “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” at Longcross Studios in Surrey, England.

As The Mirror reports, Cruise has a helicopter pilot’s license, and commutes to and from the studio via his own personal chopper.

41 years after its release in theaters, John Landis' "An American Werewolf in London" seems nearly as modern today as it did in 1981. That's partly because the script wasn't even a product of its own time — Landis came up with the idea in the late '60s, while working on "Kelly's Heroes" as a Pa in Yugoslavia. After witnessing a "gypsy funeral," the 18-year-old Landis was taken with the clash between his so-called civilized background and the fervent belief in superstition and the supernatural he witnessed at the funeral.
As the young Landis began his directing career in earnest during the '70s, he kept trying to get "American Werewolf" made, to no avail. Not only was this due to his relative inexperience early in his career, but people who read the "Werewolf" script were confused by its blend of humor and horror.

The sequel to a beloved British family film, a heavy metal re-release, an Apple title from TIFF and Abigail Disney’s takedown of the American Dream populate the specialty film weekend in a market that may have found sturdier footing ahead of awards season and amid a dearth of blockbuster fare.

When the 2022 Emmy nominations were announced, Sydney Sweeney joined an elite group of 24 individuals who each earned their first two TV academy acting bids in the same year. As a “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus” cast member, she is respectively in the running for both the Best Drama Supporting Actress and Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress prizes. Triumphing in at least one category would make her only the fourth doubly-nominated female first-timer to pull off a win, after Eileen Brennan (1981: won for “Private Benjamin”; lost for “Taxi”), Jane Lynch (2010: won for “Glee”; lost for “Two and a Half Men”) and Ann Dowd (2017: won for “The Handmaid’s Tale”; lost for “The Leftovers”).

"I can't talk about it, but I'm on a secret mission." Blue Fox has debuted a new official US trailer for the film The Railway Children Return, which already opened in the UK back in July. It's now opening in the US in late September. It's a "sort of sequel" / remake of the 1970 British film The Railway Children, about three children who move with their mother to Yorkshire. Jenny Agutter returns to her role as Bobbie from the original and is joined by Sheridan Smith, Tom Courtenay, and John Bradley. This one also follows a group of children who are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during the Second World War (to keep them safe from bombings), where they encounter a young American soldier who, like them, is far away from home. The cast of children also includes Beau Gadsdon, Eden Hamilton, Zac Cudby, Kj Aikens, Austin Haynes. It's described as "enchanting,...
