- DirectorLaurence TrimbleStarsFlorence TurnerCharles KentJeanBent on having a summer's vacation, two working girls hire a tent and pitch their camp on the shore of a beautiful lake amid rural and quiet surroundings. As fate would have it, two farmer lads, living with their widowed mother not far distant from the camp, are making their way through brush and lanes until they unexpectedly come onto the bivouac of the girls. Mutual embarrassments are shown, and the boys, who are bashful swains, stand not on the manner of their going, making a hasty and awkward retreat. The boys tell their mother about the two "peachy" girls, and she decides to send them some freshly cooked doughnuts, and employs the faithful dog, "Jean," as a messenger, and the dog at once carries them to the girls, much to their surprise. The boys make another venture to the camp, but meet with little encouragement; they are not assertive, and their natural timidity and boorishness amuse the girls exceedingly. The young fellows are not discouraged in their advancements, and find "Jean" a ready emissary in their embarrassment. She makes many visits to the camp with tokens of their respect and love. The girls are puzzled by these frequent visits from the dog and decide to discover the source of her supplies and the place from whence she comes. They sally forth, and in going encounter a cow, which stands in their way. They become frightened; their shouts for help bring the two boys and their dog "Jean" to the rescue. The boys now summon up courage and, when the girls tell them about the dog and their wish to learn where she came from, the boys offer them their escort and invite them to their home. The girls accept; the boys introduce them to their mother; they are invited to take dinner, and things progress very satisfactorily and happily to all concerned. The young people go out for a stroll, leaving the mother and "Jean: alone. The mother begins to think that her boys are hopelessly smitten with the girls and gives way to a gloomy foreboding of a double marriage, the innocent and good old dog trying to prove herself her comforter and that she did not know she was being used as a matchmaker.

He comes to the conclusion that he will engage a woman of maturer years. He advertises for such a one and he has many applicants. Finally, he selects a scrawny old maid, to whom he gives the job. The next morning, she is ready for service, and while he is dictating to her, she looks sweetly into his face, removes stray ravelings from his coat and occasionally gives him a flirtatious tap and beams lovingly into his face. He is distressed and irritated, but she still goes on as cheerfully as before. The boys enjoy his discomfiture and have hard work suppressing their laughter. The nest day she brings a box of candies which she eats all the while he is dictating. When he shows his displeasure, she very coyly tries to place a candy in his mouth. During this session, the boss's wife comes into the office and seeing the antique typist's familiarity, makes her presence known by giving the giddy old flirt a piece of her mind, and discharging her upon the spot. She is now keyed up to the proper point of attack upon her husband, seizing him by the ear, she marches him out of the office with her, leaving the clerks full scope, to give vent to their glee in laughter unconfined.
- DirectorD.W. GriffithStarsJohn R. CumpsonFlorence LawrenceLinda ArvidsonThis smokes husband, though little better than a smoked herring, more properly belonging to the crustacean type of piscatory, the lobster, for such he was and no mistake. While our friend Benj. Bibbs was not exactly parsimonious still there were times when he kicked most vigorously against his wife's extravagance. Such an occasion opens our story. Milady Bibbs has just had sent home a hat and gown, for which poor Bibbsy has to give up, but when he sees her attired in the duds, he softens, for she certainly does look stunning. All is well until she turns around when, O, horror! It is a sheath gown of a most pronounced type. "You brazen hussy, to appear such!" He could say no more, for he fairly choked with rage, and rushes from the room in a state of turbulent perturbation; but not until he has ruthlessly thrown a floor rug over his shameless wife. The maid of the family is in league with a crook, and the pair have plotted to rob the place. To this end the crook has written a note to the maid, telling her to signal when the coast is clear. This note falls into the hands of Bibbs, and as it is simply addressed "Honey" and signed "Lovingly, Tom," his jealous nature at once associates it with his wife. "Aha! Sheath gown, honey, signal from the window, meet in drawing room, lovingly, Tom. I see it all: You would deceive me, eh? We shall see!" Into the fireplace and up the chimney he goes to hide, intent upon trapping his apparently perfidious spouse and her paramour. He is hardly ensconced when the maid, on order of the madam, builds a fire on the hearth, and yon may imagine Bibbs' position is not a pleasant one. To descend is out of the question, and as he ascends he dislodges the soot which covers him from head to foot. The noise induced by his scrambling amid smoke and soot alarms the women folks and several policemen answer their cries, who capture "Lovingly, Tom" 'neatb the rose tree in the garden. The women insist that the real offender is still in the flue, and a mad rush to the roof brings the coppers there just as poor soot-begrimed Bibbs emerges from the chimney. Chased over the roofs, he in desperation leaps off, coming down on the heads of a couple of Willie boys who are gossiping alongside a mortar box. Into the cement tumble the trio, and a sorry sight they present when the police and others arrive. Explanations prove what a colossal fool Bibbs has been, but still it served him right, and his discomfort is the spectators' sport, for the subject is a most hilariously humorous one, with a scream in every foot of length.
