Trask accepts, and after hiding the money behind a painting, leaves his office for the night. Later that evening, building janitor Annester Norton discovers the money while on his rounds and absconds with it. The next day Aline Norton, the janitor's daughter and an unwitting pawn of the gamblers, appears at Trask's office with the necklace. Discovering that the money is missing, Trask goes to the casino to investigate and miraculously wins $30,000 with which he purchases the necklace. After placing the necklace in Lloyd's hands, Trask is shocked to discover that it is a fake. Entering the gambler's den, Trask retrieves the real necklace, which he restores to its rightful owner. Norton, repenting his theft, returns the money and Trask realizes that he loves the janitor's daughter.

For his efforts, Bob is arrested and found guilty of defrauding the stock holders, and also charged with being notorious outlaw Pat Duncan. After several adventures, Bob succeeds in capturing the real Duncan, vindicates himself of the charges and wins Betty for his bride.

By mysterious messages, Lupin informs the public that he is innocent of the crimes, although the authorities believe him to be guilty. Lupin thereupon sets out to solve the mystery himself. By impersonating an officer of the law and dodging his enemies successfully, he aids the police in catching the real criminal and, after making his identity known, escapes the net thrown out for him.

Hargrave discovers the plot, foils the scheme and discovers Irene's disloyalty. Although stricken with blindness because of the agitation in his life, Hargrave finds true love with his secretary, Margaret Carlisle. Once his sight is restored, he marries Margaret.

King is detained along with everyone else, and after a series of misadventures, the real thief is apprehended, Ottilie is convinced of her husband's innocence, the letters are restored to Ned and all ends happily.

Through Barton's carelessness, Barbara is able to obtain documents which prove that his first marriage was valid, thereby nullifying their marriage and freeing her to marry Brent.

They visit her together and Clay tells her he will give her $5,000 and forces Duke to do the same. Overcome with the shock of the good fortune, the widow faints, and Duke, furious at being tricked, rushes from the cabin and meets Agnes, who is on her way to meet Clay. He takes her to the door of the cabin where she sees the widow Butts in the arms of her sweetheart. Misunderstanding the situation and being told by Duke that Clay is unfaithful to her, she breaks off their engagement.

Later, the man, Ricardo Ruey, hides in Webster's steamer room and relates that his father, the former president of Sobrante, was assassinated by the present ruler, Sarros. In Sobrante, Webster finds that Geary is in love with Dolores, who arrived earlier. After sending Geary to marry Dolores while he develops the mine, Webster learns that Dolores is Ricardo's sister, although neither knows this. While fighting for the victorious Ricardo, who becomes president, Webster is wounded. He recovers to find Dolores nursing him, and when she says that she does not love Geary, he confesses his love and soon plans are made to marry.

The girl, Belle Charmion, explains that her half brother, Gordon Brewster, had stolen some jewels from their uncle and, fearing that the police would capture him, had attempted suicide. Fenton conceals the brother in another room and impersonates him when the police arrive. Later, he and Belle take Brewster to his uncle's home. In the excitement, the jewels have been forgotten, and Fenton returns to search for them. By this time, the family butler, who is a member of an underworld gang, has tipped off his friends, who then steal the Fenton jewels. At the butler's home, a scuffle ensues; Fenton recovers the jewels and learns that he is actually a distant relative of the Charmions, having been kidnapped in infancy by a crook. With both mysteries thus resolved, Belle and Fenton become engaged.

Milligan's secretary Millie warns Yale, who determines to retrieve the stocks. A car race between Yale and Millington results in the return of the securities in due time. Meanwhile, Blanche has eloped with an old suitor, and Yale realizes that he has fallen in love with Minnie.

Wounded, Breitman dies with Hedda, who has lovingly followed him, at his side, taking the secret of the treasure with him.

Eventually, Newlands becomes foreman, brings law and order to the discontented miners and discovers a rich vein of ore, thus averting Crawford's financial ruin. His job completed, Newlands is about to leave when Beatrice recognizes him and begs him to give their marriage another chance.

Barbara, in a rage, spurns him, wrecks the store, and returns to Johnny who, satisfied that she has learned her lesson, forgives her.

Herbert arrives and chaos ensues when he discovers his wife and kids are there. Eventually, things get straightened out and David regains Betty's love.

Dorothy turns in amazement to see Betty standing in the doorway, a smoking pistol at her feet. Believing that the child shot Hazzard, Dorothy takes her and flees. Madame Duval and her Hindu servant, Ali Bey, tell the police that Dorothy killed Hazzard, until Ali finally reveals that Madame Duval fired the shot out of jealousy, thus freeing Dorothy to find happiness with Barrington.
