- DirectorHal YatesStarsJack PaarEdgar KennedyLeon ErrolAfter master of ceremonies Jack Paar introduces himself to the audience, pianist and composer Frankie Carle plays an original jazz number with his band. Paar then jokes about the post-war housing shortage and sets up an extended excerpt from an Edgar Kennedy short: Convinced that all contractors are crooks, Edgar decides to build an addition to his house without the aid of experts. Enlisting help from his wife Florence, brother-in-law Bert and their mother, the short-tempered Edgar begins construction full of confidence but is soon plagued by mishaps. In addition, he dismisses a state building inspector, thinking that he is another greedy contractor. After many weeks, the addition is still unfinished, and Edgar has accidentally destroyed his brick fireplace a number of times. Despite these setbacks, the stubborn Edgar perseveres, plastering the ceiling while Bert lays insulation above him. When Bert crashes through the ceiling and causes Edgar to fall into a vat of wet plaster, however, Edgar is beside himself with frustration. Before he can throttle Bert, however, Florence announces that the building inspector has returned. Recognizing the visitor from before, Edgar assumes he is really a contractor trying to pass himself off as the inspector and throws him into a trough of plaster. The plaster-covered Edgar then learns that the man in the trough is the inspector. Back in the studio, Paar introduces the film audience to a traditional tap dance number performed by vaudevillian Pat Rooney, which is followed by a contemporary number executed by black tap dancers Jesse and James. Paar then presents excerpts from three silent films--a melodrama, a fashion newsreel and a western--and adds his own comic voice-over narration to them. The films are followed by a short featuring Leon Errol: Upon returning home from work one day, Leon learns that his wife Dorothy has told her rich aunt Jessie, who is about to arrive for a visit, that she is still married to her first husband, because she fears that Jessie, who disapproves of divorce, will disinherit her. At Dorothy's insistence, Leon agrees to pose as the family butler during Jessie's visit, while Dorothy's ex-husband, Jack Drinkwater, poses as her spouse. Unaware of Leon's impersonation, Jack, a longtime drunk, inadvertently reveals to him his intention to win Dorothy back and collect Jessie's money. Outraged by Jack's boldness around Dorothy, Leon struggles to maintain his composure in front of the bossy Jessie and nearly gives himself away when she catches him kissing his wife in the kitchen. That night, after the two men and Dorothy engage in frenetic bedroom switching, Jessie finally discovers the truth. To Dorothy and Leon's relief, Jessie endorses their marriage, stating matter-of-factly that she would have divorced the drunken Jack years ago. Following the short, dance trio Lynn, Royce and Vanya perform a comic adagio. Paar then introduces "Rudy La Pays," a French café singer. While accompanying La Pays on the piano, Paar provides a comic English translation to La Pays's equally silly French song. The film concludes with a musical number performed by Miguelito Valdes and an accompanying dance duet by Harold and Lola.

Unaware that his friend has been killed, Leslie goes to the Hotel Siwa, where Greg was staying, and finds a blonde woman searching through Greg's belongings. The woman, Gila Lingallo, escapes, and later meets Jakoll, the man who murdered Greg and dumped his body in the river. Gila berates Jakoll for murdering Greg, and tells him that she only wanted Jakoll to keep him away long enough to search his room for evidence that might incriminate her and her father, the magician Paolo Lingallo. Leslie, meanwhile, becomes concerned about Greg's disappearance and begins an investigation into the matter. At the Café Daghla, Greg's friend, Bunnny Beacham, suggests that Leslie visit Alexis Tacca, the man who leased his theater to Greg. When Tacca takes Leslie to the theater, shots ring out from behind the billboard advertising The Great Lingallo's show. Leslie manages to escape injury, and when he returns to the hotel, he learns that Greg's body has been found in the canal. Leslie finds Gila and accuses her of breaking into Greg's room, but she denies the accusation and tells Leslie that she can prove that she and her father were in an airplane at the time of the murder. Late one night, Gila finds Jakoll in her room preparing to kill her, but her screams frighten him away. A short time later, Paolo tells Leslie that his niece, Helena Guistano, who resembles Gila, and Helena's father Mario were Nazi collaborators. Paolo also admits that he has followed the Guistanos to Port Said hoping to familiarize the townspeople with Gila's face so that Helena will be mistaken for Gila and captured. On the basis of Paolo's story, Leslie concludes that Greg was killed by the Guistanos for attempting to book Paolo's show at the Ramses theater. Later, Leslie and Paolo take Gila to the Daghla Café, and Bunny notices the similarity between Gila and Helena, but when he tries to tell Carlo, the club owner, he realizes that Carlo is one of Mario's men. Carlo sends Jakoll to kill Bunny, and the murder is witnessed by a young woman who was waiting for Bunny. After Jakoll's tries unsuccessfully to kill him, Leslie attends a rehearsal for the magic show. There, Mario's men knock Leslie unconscious, drug Gila and replace her with Helena, who has changed her hair color to match Gila's and is planning to kill Paolo during the show's sword fight. As the show begins, Leslie regains consciousness and rushes to the theater. At the same time, the woman who witnessed Bunny's murder finds Jakoll with Gila and stabs him. Leslie arrives at the theater in time to prevent Paolo's murder, and Mario and his accomplices are arrested.

- DirectorWilliam BerkeStarsCharles StarrettRussell HaydenShirley PattersonTexas rangers Steve Bowie and "Lucky" Laidlaw are assigned, with "Harmony" Bumpus, to investigate possible enemy action in the territory of Alaska. With a short-wave radio, they head for the ranch of Kendall, a murdered Alaskan. Neighboring ranchers Matt Taylor and his daughter, Sheila, investigate men they believe to be tramps. The men ride off shooting, and the pursuing Taylor runs across the undercover rangers, now working for the United States government. Steve convinces Taylor he is the nephew of Kendall. The men on the Kendall ranch were Chris Larsen and his German henchmen. Larsen killed Kendall and, taking orders from an offshore German submarine, is attempting to put in a runway for enemy planes. Young Buddy Taylor, Sheila's kid brother, later sees men pouring cement on the Larsen ranch and is shot while trying to escape. Larsen plants the body on the Kendall ranch and Taylor accuses Steve and his friends of shooting the boy. Steve and his pals rally to expose the German construction and capture Larsen, his henchmen, and the German agent directing their activities.
