- DirectorTatsuya NagamineStarsMasako NozawaAya HisakawaRyô HorikawaGoku and Vegeta encounter Broly, a Saiyan warrior unlike any fighter they've faced before.I liked this more than I expected. I'm not a DBZ super fan, but this movie was hard not to love. Packed with humor, action, and even emotion, this was one entertaining anime film.
1/2/21 - DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacAs a new threat to the galaxy rises, Rey, a desert scavenger, and Finn, an ex-stormtrooper, must join Han Solo and Chewbacca to search for the one hope of restoring peace.Well - I think it's about time I reviewed this movie properly. I'm going to right a full-written review, but let's just say every time I watch this movie I want to love it, and always leave underwhelmed. Today was no exception.
1/3/21 - DirectorRian JohnsonStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaMark HamillRey develops her abilities with the help of Luke Skywalker, as the Resistance prepares for battle against the First Order.I'm starting 2021 by rewatching the new Star Wars trilogy, and "The Last Jedi" continues to be my favorite of the three films. It is very small-scale compared to the previous film, but the characterization of Rey and Kylo absolutely enhance this movie - if you enjoy watching their characterization deepened, you'll like this film. Plus, the action is insanely well directed and gorgeously choreographed. One of my only negatives is the fact that the movie ends with a sort of finality that makes it hard to sense where the story will go... even though we all know where it went now!
1/4/21 - DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacThe surviving Resistance faces the First Order once again in the conclusion of the Skywalker saga.I actually enjoyed this movie. Because it's the 3rd film in the trilogy, you're already connected to the characters, especially Rey and Kylo Ren, and really want to see how their arcs end. The character interactions between Poe, Finn, and Rey are great, and the film has entertaining action throughout. Listen, it's a simple, fun science fiction adventure that I will definitely pop in when I want to turn my brain off and relax.
1/6/21 - DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsFelicity JonesDiego LunaAlan TudykIn a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction.I thought this movie was okay. It has a really boring first half and an explosive second half, but the second half isn't that enjoyable because the characters are not well fleshed out. It's enjoyable enough, but I'd rather watch The Last Jedi or Rise of Skywalker.
1/7/21 - DirectorPaul W.S. AndersonStarsMilla JovovichTony JaaRon PerlmanWhen Cpt. Artemis and her loyal soldiers are transported to a new world, they engage in a desperate battle for survival against enormous enemies with incredible powers. Feature film based on the video game by Capcom.I though this movie was pretty boring. There's hardly any action, and when there is action, it's portrayed at night so it's difficult to see what's happening. The special effects are fine, but I wish the movie had better action in it, and more clearly shown action.
1/8/21 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsEwan McGregorLiam NeesonNatalie PortmanTwo Jedi escape a hostile blockade to find allies and come across a young boy who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their original glory.BLAH. Boring, bad plot, bad acting, bad action. I don't hate this movie, but I'll never willingly watch it again - there's no point. The only thing I love is the end fight with Maul, other than that nothing makes me want to watch this movie again.
1/9/21 - DirectorPatty JenkinsStarsGal GadotChris PineKristen WiigDiana must contend with a colleague, and with a businessman whose desire for extreme wealth sends the world down a path of destruction, after an ancient artifact that grants wishes goes missing.I thought this movie was so much fun! It's romantic, and basically a character study, and I really loved all of the characters in this movie. This is a throwback to 80s action movies, and the campiness really worked for me. This isn't an action film, and the action is honestly the worst part of this movie. I loved everything else though, and couldn't get enough of the chemistry between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. This is definitely one of my favorite DC movies, for sure.
1/9/21 - DirectorDuncan JonesStarsTravis FimmelPaula PattonBen FosterAs an Orc horde invades the planet Azeroth using a magic portal, a few human heroes and dissenting Orcs must attempt to stop the true evil behind this war.The special effects are good, the action is good, but the movie overall is boring. The movie is, surprisingly, too short, not giving us enough to breathe to really get enthralled in the world. But even so, the movie just feels way too slow - there's barely any action, and most scenes are filled with exposition that I did not care about. Maybe I'll give this another shot one day, but for a one time watch, I did not enjoy this.
1/10/21 - DirectorGreta GerwigStarsSaoirse RonanLaurie MetcalfTracy LettsIn 2002, an artistically inclined 17-year-old girl comes of age in Sacramento, California.I love Ms. Ronan, so I was looking forward to this, but I just thought it was okay. I found it pretty mean spirited, filled with unlikeable characters, and overall that made it unable to resonate with me. The acting was great, and there were moments I liked, but overall I didn't enjoy this too much.
1/10/21 - DirectorOz PerkinsStarsEmma RobertsKiernan ShipkaLucy BoyntonTwo girls must battle a mysterious evil force when they get left behind at their boarding school over winter break.I LOVED this movie so much *swoon*. It has gorgeous actresses, but more than that, it's just such a visually gorgeous movie, filled with stunning cinematography coupled with a fantastic soundtrack. I liked how restrained this movie is, I liked the intriguing story, and I just enjoyed watching this from beginning to end.
1/11/21 - DirectorAdam MacDonaldStarsLaurie HoldenNicole MuñozChloe RoseA frustrated, angst-ridden teenage girl awakens something in the woods when she naively performs an occult ritual to evoke a witch to kill her mother.I liked this movie. I took me awhile to get into it, but once it gets going, it's creepy and enthralling, filled with great psychological horror. I also really enjoyed all of the performances - everyone felt grounded, and I liked how seriously it took the subject matter. Good horror film!
1/12/21 - DirectorMalgorzata SzumowskaStarsRaffey CassidyMichiel HuismanDenise GoughA girl born into an all-female cult led by a man in their compound begins to question his teachings and her own reality.Horrifically dull and boring. The movie looks good, but the plot is nonexistent. Half the film is characters walking from one location to the next. It's so boring. I don't even want to write anymore, I just didn't like this film whatsoever. Pretentious and self-indulgent.
1/13/21 - DirectorRobert LorenzStarsKatheryn WinnickLiam NeesonTeresa RuizA rancher on the Arizona border becomes the unlikely defender of a young Mexican boy desperately fleeing the cartel assassins who've pursued him into the U.S.Unfortunately, a pretty boring movie. Little action, uninteresting dialogue, not much that really moves this movie forward. Yeah, I like Liam Neeson, but I wasn't a fan of this one.
1/15/21 - DirectorEmerald FennellStarsCarey MulliganBo BurnhamAlison BrieNothing in Cassie's life is what it appears to be - she's wickedly smart, tantalizingly cunning, and she's living a secret double life. Now, an unexpected encounter is about to give Cassie a chance to right the wrongs from the past.Absolutely LOVED this film. This is a thriller in the truest sense of the word. From beginning to end I was on the edge of my seat, white-knuckled. This is full of suspense, but also the movie boasts a great soundtrack and a unique visual look, full of bright colors and vibrant pastels. The plot instantly hooks you, and the story beats do a great job of revealing important info without seeming like exposition or shock for shocks sake. This is a great film and I highly recommend it, and will be buying it on Blu-Ray for sure.
01/16/21 - DirectorSidney LumetStarsAl PacinoJohn CazalePenelope AllenThree amateur bank robbers plan to hold up a bank. A nice simple robbery: Walk in, take the money, and run. Unfortunately, the supposedly uncomplicated heist suddenly becomes a bizarre nightmare as everything that could go wrong does.A masterful thriller. Filled with fantastic acting, an unpredictable plot, and a great undercurrent of dark comedy, this movie was riveting from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
01/17/21 - DirectorThomas VinterbergStarsMads MikkelsenThomas Bo LarsenMagnus MillangFour high-school teachers consume alcohol on a daily basis to see how it affects their social and professional lives. This movie was very interesting - I love Mads Mikkelsen, and he spurred my curiosity to watch this. The movie doesn't seem to have a clear message, instead allowing individual viewer interpretation, which I appreciate. I overall enjoyed this film a lot, appreciating the journey it took, the character moments, and the drama.
01/18/21 - DirectorJez ButterworthStarsNicole KidmanVincent CasselBen ChaplinA thirtysomething bank clerk from St Albans has his small-town life exploded by the arrival of his Russian mail-order bride.Ehh, this was okay. Tonally, it was inconsistent, jumping from comedy to BDSM romance to crime thriller - and I enjoyed it more when it was a BDSM romance. When the drama starts, the movie really slows down and becomes just a slog to get to the end. Nicole Kidman was gorgeous and great as always, and legitimately seemed like she was a Russian, however every other actor didn't have much to do. Even though I liked the first 30 minutes, I'll probably never watch this again.
01/18/21 - CreatorEd BrubakerNicolas Winding RefnStarsMiles TellerAugusto AguileraNell Tiger FreeDetective Martin Jones, who leads a double life as a killer for hire in Los Angeles' deadly underground, suffers an existential crisis which leads him deeper into a blood splattered world of violence.Episode 1 - The Devil ; 7/10
Overall, I liked watching this episode because of its unapologetically awful characters, and because of how gorgeous NWR makes his pieces look and sound. Some interesting plot points were introduced, and there were one or two legitimately thrilling scenes. I was never bored with its slow pace, but I understand that the majority of viewers will. Overall, I liked this, and I look forward to seeing how it continues.

I really liked the focus on the Mexican cartel in this episode, and specifically focusing on the killer from episode 1. This was a very slow but hypnotic episode, giving us a look at beautiful Mexican vistas, of course, slowly giving way to violence as the episode goes on. Really great stuff here.

Picked up the pace and focused on Miles Teller again, giving us a look at what happens when a killer for hire finds someone else who does the same thing he does. Loved all the new characters and plotlines this show introduced, and I look forward to seeing how everything ties together.

This episode was fantastic, following Miles Teller as his character has a slight change of heart, deciding to want to kill people who he thinks has it coming to them. It's an interesting aspect of a character who previously had such a nonchalant attitude about killing. The show keeps getting more interesting.

This episode was excellent, suspenseful and uncomfortable from beginning to end. I was white-knuckled, and literally couldn't make myself get up from my seat. This has some fantastic action, but more than that, is just incredible exciting and tense - the situations so awkward that you almost want to stop watching. Loved episode five, and can't wait to continue.

Another episode focused on the Mexican cartel, specifically Jesus and his wife, Yaritza. I found this episode riveting. Again, it's less violent than other episodes, but you can feel its building, especially with Yaritza - she oozes violence. Also, this episode looked and sounded probably better than any other episode. Loved when Yaritza met Jayme - overall, great.

FANTASTIC. So intense, Miles Teller is especially fantastic in this scene, finally exploding in emotion when he decides, on a whim, to murder someone who starts mocking him. Also, definitely the most violent episode, especially the dreadful ending. Honestly, just a great episode when it comes to plot progression, character building, and story. Loved it.

What a gut punch. NWR isn't playing around. He ensures every character gets what is coming to them, even if they don't necessarily deserve it. This is the most violent and hard to watch episode, but everything that happens makes thematic sense, and you can tell it was all building to this. I loved this episode.
01/25/21 - CreatorEd BrubakerNicolas Winding RefnStarsMiles TellerAugusto AguileraNell Tiger FreeDetective Martin Jones, who leads a double life as a killer for hire in Los Angeles' deadly underground, suffers an existential crisis which leads him deeper into a blood splattered world of violence.Episode 9 - ; 9/10
Only one more episode left after this! This episode had some great dialogue, especially a really interesting scene with Miguel talking to his gang. This also feels like the most arthouse episode, with a massacre scene that is very artsy fartsy, but I enjoyed. This definitely feels like the epilogue to the series, because episode 8 felt like a more concrete ending, but I'm looking forward to finishing the series off with episode 10.
1/28/21 - DirectorJohn Lee HancockStarsDenzel WashingtonRami MalekJared LetoKern County Deputy Sheriff Joe Deacon is sent to Los Angeles for what should have been a quick evidence-gathering assignment. Instead, he becomes embroiled in the search for a serial killer who is terrorizing the city.Really great cast here, which leads to great acting. The movie has a great look to it, but the editing is so bad that it ends up being distracting - it really put a damper on my enjoyment of this film. The ending is really good, and the movie gets consistently more interesting as it goes along, but the pace is very slow, and the tonal inconsistency glaringly obvious. This is a watchable movie that I probably will watch again at some point, but it should've been much better than it is. Great acting, good story, bad editing and pacing.
01/29/30 - DirectorBarry LevinsonStarsAl PacinoKathy BakerKenneth MaharajPenn State football coach Joe Paterno becomes embroiled in a sexual abuse scandal.A well-acted film, engrossing, but devastating to watch - I literally felt disgusted during and after viewing. I didn't find the movie to have an astounding amount of tension, as the reveal of whether or not Paterno knew is made clear early on, but the drama surrounding the event and Paterno himself makes for a good viewing experience.
1/30/21 - DirectorDavid AyerStarsBobby SotoCinthya CarmonaShia LaBeoufA "tax collector" working for a local crime lord finds his family's safety compromised when the rival of his boss shows up in L.A. and upends the business.Terrible. Seriously, what an awful film. The pacing, the directing, the visuals, the film looks and feels cheap - hard to believe a movie that looks this poor was made with 30 million dollars, while a movie that looks as good as "Drive" was made with only 15 million. Only good thing about this movie is Shia - once he's out of the film, the movie nosedives. Horrendous, will never watch this garbage again.
1/31/21 - DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsRyan GoslingCarey MulliganBryan CranstonA mysterious Hollywood action film stuntman gets in trouble with gangsters when he tries to help his neighbor's husband rob a pawn shop while serving as his getaway driver. One of my all time favorite movies. Seriously magical. Amazing visuals, music, acting, that all combines together into an experience like no other. It's sweet and romantic, it's thrilling, it's sad, it's emotional, it's everything you can ever want in a movie. This is one of my all time favorites, and without a doubt top 10.
2/1/21 - DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsRyan GoslingKristin Scott ThomasVithaya PansringarmJulian, a drug-smuggler thriving in Bangkok's criminal underworld, sees his life get even more complicated when his mother compels him to find and kill whoever is responsible for his brother's recent death.A hypnotizing film. It looks and sounds great, but it's very low on straightforward narrative - not to say it doesn't have a plot. I enjoy watching this film because of how amazing it is visually, and the soundtrack really brings everything together. Additionally, the climactic fight scene is filmed wonderfully - NWR really knows how to film a fight. Overall, not as good as "Drive," but a good film nevertheless.
2/2/2021 - DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsElle FanningChristina HendricksKeanu ReevesAn aspiring model, Jesse, is new to Los Angeles. However, her beauty and youth, which generate intense fascination and jealousy within the fashion industry, may prove themselves sinister. My second favorite Nic Refn film, behind "Drive." Visually, this movie is FANtastic. And the soundtrack is also just beautiful, combining fantastically with the gorgeous visuals. It's a film about beauty, so it's fitting how pretty this movie looks. But, compared to "Only God Forgives," "The Neon Demon" has a really good plot, and really interesting and funny dialogue throughout. It's much easier to follow, the horror elements are teased early on so they are not so out of left field, and it's just a really interesting movie. I have a lot of fun watching this, and it's potentially Refn's most watchable film. Really good.
02/04/21 - DirectorTakashi MiikeStarsBeckyBengalMasayuki DeaiA young boxer and a call girl get caught up in a drug-smuggling scheme over the course of one night in Tokyo.Wasn't a fan of this one. Thought there was way too much going on, and because of that there wasn't really an anchor to ground me and make me care about the plot or characters. The love story was underdeveloped, as were all of the other plotlines, so when the action started hitting, I didn't care. The movie looks fine, but I just didn't enjoy it very much.
02/06/21 - DirectorNicolas Winding RefnStarsKim BodniaZlatko BuricLaura DrasbækA drug pusher grows increasingly desperate after a botched deal leaves him with a large debt to a ruthless drug lord.Nic Refn's first film, and it's okay. The plot is unique, as is the filmmaking style, but the unlikeable main character really detracted from my experience. He is cruel to those closest to him, at times for no reason, and because of that I didn't care whether or not he repaid his debt. And it's hard to enjoy a movie when you don't care about the main character. That said, it's directed and edited well, with sneak-peaks of Refn's signature style sprinkled throughout.
02/06/21 - CreatorEd BrubakerNicolas Winding RefnStarsMiles TellerAugusto AguileraNell Tiger FreeDetective Martin Jones, who leads a double life as a killer for hire in Los Angeles' deadly underground, suffers an existential crisis which leads him deeper into a blood splattered world of violence.Episode 10: The World ; 9/10
A fitting, quiet end to the series. An incredibly short episode, but it makes perfect sense with the themes the show set up to this point. Yartiza is beautiful and badass as usual, and I really enjoyed the implications of her character's actions. Jena Malone delivers a haunting, timely monologue that also connects with Jesus' actions throughout the show. Overall, a quick episode, but a good ending to a great series.
02/08/21 - DirectorRoger DonaldsonStarsPierce BrosnanLuke BraceyOlga KurylenkoAn ex-C.I.A. operative is brought back in on a very personal mission and finds himself pitted against his former pupil in a deadly game involving high-level C.I.A. officials and the Russian President-elect.My first time watching this movie since 2014, seven years ago. I saw it in theatres with my mom back in the day, and I remember feeling meh about it. I still feel the same. The movie suffers from tonal inconsistency, as character arcs are introduced and thrown away, and scenes shown and forgotten about. The action is good at points, but also very immersion breaking with the use of noticeably fake blood. There is also a distinct lack of a visual flair, making the entire movie feel like it was made for TV. That said, Brosnan is great, and he makes this movie so watchable. For a turn your brain off action film, "The November Man" is enjoyable enough, if unremarkable.
02/10/21 - DirectorShaka KingStarsLaKeith StanfieldDaniel KaluuyaJesse PlemonsOffered a plea deal by the FBI, William O'Neal infiltrates the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party to gather intelligence on Chairman Fred Hampton.Pretty good film, some of the best acting I've seen in a while, all very natural. Riveting plot, some thrilling scenes, but I didn't like how short this movie was in comparison to all the story that needed telling. Perhaps would've worked better as a mini-series or 30 minute longer film; that said, the plot moved quickly, and the movie is never boring.
02/13/21 - DirectorAlbert HughesAllen HughesStarsDenzel WashingtonMila KunisRay StevensonA drifter fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity's salvation.Real good film! Fantastic acting from Denzel, and I really loved all of the action here - beautiful wides and one-shot takes are ample. The message of the story is a bit on the nose, especially with some specific lines of dialogue, but that said, I enjoyed it, and I also thought the world-building was very well done. Fun movie.
02/14/21 - DirectorKevin LewisStarsNicolas CageEmily TostaBeth GrantA quiet drifter is tricked into a janitorial job at the now condemned Willy's Wonderland. The mundane tasks suddenly become an all-out fight for survival against wave after wave of demonic animatronics. Fists fly, kicks land, titans clash -- and only one side will make it out alive.Really entertaining, but also slightly disappointing, mostly due to the shaky camera making almost all action scenes incomprehensible. The action just isn't that well-filmed, which is a shame as it is the main draw. That said, the movie is never boring and always entertaining, especially with Nic Cage in the lead.
02/14/21 - DirectorNoah BaumbachStarsAdam DriverScarlett JohanssonJulia GreerNoah Baumbach's incisive and compassionate look at a marriage breaking up and a family staying together.Powerful acting, realistic feeling story. Obviously I didn't want the story to go the way it did, and perhaps a more Hollywood ending would've been more enjoyable, but everything felt thematically satisfying. Adam and Scarlett were fantastic, with both of them giving truly Oscar worthy performances. Ray Liotta and Laura Dern also make appearances, both of them chewing the scenery when they appear. My only complaint is an overuse of the fading out editing technique, as well as some dialogue feeling overly written and not too natural. Other than that, a powerful, gut punch of a movie.
02/15/21 - DirectorScott WalkerStarsNicolas CageVanessa HudgensJohn CusackAn Alaska State Trooper partners with a young woman who escaped the clutches of serial killer Robert Hansen to bring the murderer to justice. Based on actual events.A pretty good film. Very basic, but surprisingly well-directed with a fitting handheld camera style, and very well-paced, if mildly rushed in the beginning. Except for a few performances from cops at the start. the acting all good, and you can tell everyone was professional and giving their all. John Cusack and Nic Cage especially were great, as was Vanessa Hudgens. A pretty basic cop movie, but an entertaining one too. Glad I watched it. Also, loved the snowy, Alaskan climate! Perfect cold weather movie.
02/16/21 - DirectorClint EastwoodStarsClint EastwoodBee VangChristopher CarleyAfter a Hmong teenager tries to steal his prized 1972 Gran Torino, a disgruntled, prejudiced Korean War veteran seeks to redeem both the boy and himself.Gran Torino is damn good film. It's very funny, and very heartwarming, and features a really good story about overcoming prejudice and the power of friendship. This is a feel-good film in the truest sense of the word, but also is surprisingly emotional. I really enjoyed this.
02/17/21 - DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenOrlando BloomA meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron. An excellent fantasy. This is a damn fun, adventurous film that is a total blast to watch. The constant locales and amazing characterization and chemistry makes this movie - the action sequences are pretty shaky, but there isn't much action and the amazing characters and sense of emotional resonance fully makes up for it
02/19/21 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorTen years after initially meeting, Anakin Skywalker shares a forbidden romance with Padmé Amidala, while Obi-Wan Kenobi discovers a secret clone army crafted for the Jedi.A much better movie than "The Phantom Menace." There's an almost constant stream of action sequences that make this movie, at the least, entertaining and not boring. However, it's full of awful dialogue and embarrassing romance scenes. That said, I kind of had a fun time with this movie as a whole, and enjoyed it much more than its predecessor.
02/20/21 - DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenViggo MortensenWhile Frodo and Sam edge closer to Mordor with the help of the shifty Gollum, the divided fellowship makes a stand against Sauron's new ally, Saruman, and his hordes of Isengard.Continues the amazing characterization and riveting plot of its predecessor, and has a great emotional undercurrent. There are marvelous scenes in here that made me get chills from their epicness. There is more action here, for better or worse, which means much more shaky camera that was infuriating to watch. That said, if you're watching this movie, you're watching it for its story and characters, and both of those factors are so emotionally satisfying that "The Two Towers" is certainly a fulfilling experience.
02/21/21 - DirectorRose GlassStarsMorfydd ClarkCaoilfhionn DunneJennifer EhleA pious nurse becomes dangerously obsessed with saving the soul of her dying patient.I really loved this film. It's less of a horror film and more of a character study of a mentally ill religious fanatic. There are a ton of beautiful sequences here, and some scenes that are genuinely suspenseful, and even horrific. It's a slow burn, but it's very effective and consistently engaging. Maud was incredibly watchable, and even sympathetic, and the story the movie tells does manage to draw you in to see what will happen next. Really liked this - A24 has done it again!
02/21/21 - DirectorColin TrevorrowStarsChris PrattBryce Dallas HowardTy SimpkinsA new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.Pretty fun film! Never felt bored once, and the CGI was genuinely impressive. This basically felt like a big rollercoaster ride, and it's exactly what I wanted it to feel like. It did feel a touch too long, but overall I had a good time watching this.
02/23/21 - DirectorJ.A. BayonaStarsChris PrattBryce Dallas HowardRafe SpallWhen the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event.Really bad - annoying characters, filmmaking decisions that make no sense, character decisions that make no sense, a boring plot, and just a sub-par film. Really can't believe they went in this direction after the good first film. I have no urge to ever watch this again.
02/25/21 - DirectorWill GluckStarsEmma StoneAmanda BynesPenn BadgleyWhen Olive lies to her best friend about losing her virginity to one of the college boys, a girl overhears their conversation. Soon, her story spreads across the entire school like wildfire.I'm a sucker for high school movies, so I enjoyed this! Emma Stone was adorable and really good in it, and the plot lead to some humorous and emotional sequences. The entire movie was a good sense of heart to it as well, and it's a genuine, warmhearted film. I'd recommend this - it's an easy, fun watch.
02/25/21 - DirectorArthur PennStarsWarren BeattyFaye DunawayMichael J. PollardBored waitress Bonnie Parker falls in love with an ex-con named Clyde Barrow and together they start a violent crime spree through the country, stealing cars and robbing banks.Pretty good, if mildly rushed. I really like Bonnie in this movie - she oozed sexuality and was fun to watch. Bonnie and Clyde's chemistry, however, felt kind of rushed - they meet, and then they immediately start robbing stores - but I guess it is mildly true to life, as the story goes that they fell in love at first sight. That said, I would've appreciated more of a build up to their relationship and eventual crime spree. Overall, I did enjoy watching this movie, though. Lot's of good scenes here.
02/27/21 - DirectorKatt SheaStarsSophia LillisZoe ReneeMackenzie GrahamA bit of an outsider struggling to fit into her new surroundings, Nancy and her pals set out to solve a mystery, make new friends, and establish their place in the community.I really like Sophia Lillis, so I'm biased here, but I had a lot of fun with this movie. It's a really easy watch, and you don't have to think too hard. It's straight-forward and fun, with some pretty creepy scenes here actually. The mysteries of the movie are fun to unravel, but the characters are really the star of the show, and Sophia is just so charming as Nancy Drew that I couldn't help but enjoy myself. Would love to see more of Sophia's portrayal of this character.
02/27/21 - DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodViggo MortensenIan McKellenGandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.Without a doubt, my favorite of the trilogy - this is EMOTIONAL from beginning to end, and at multiple points I was tearing up and getting chills. This is the PERFECT ending film of any trilogy, and has the PERFECT ending sequence of any film I think I've ever seen. I enjoyed this film much more than the first two, but it is most definitely worth watching the first two to witness this. The first two films set up the characters so perfectly, and this film is the coup de grace, wrapping every character arc and plot thread up perfectly. I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this movie.

When he befriends his seniors, he learns to cope with his friend's suicide and his tumultuous past. This movie hit me hard emotionally, and I could relate heavily to the characters and the situations they find themselves in. I found some of the dialogue overly literary, but I enjoyed the hell out of this film, found myself tearing up often, while also having a warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest while watching it. I loved this movie, and I can definitely see the hype.
03/02/21 - DirectorRichard CurtisStarsDomhnall GleesonRachel McAdamsBill NighyAt the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think.I absolutely fell in love with this film. Loved the premise, loved the performances, loved the undercurrent of humor present here that had me laughing out loud. This was a sweet movie, packed with emotion, drama, and standout performances from everyone involved. Definitely one of my favorite movies of I've seen so far this year.
03/05/21 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorThree years into the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot to rule the galaxy. Now THIS is a Star Wars film. Yes, the dialogue was still cringy during the romantic sequences, but my god, this was an exciting film. There's practically non-stop action, the emotional resonance is strong, and it honestly feels like a different person other than George Lucas directed this. Simply, this is a badass film, and a true Star Wars movie.

Stuck reliving her last day over and over, Sam untangles the mystery around her death and discovers everything she's losing.I really enjoyed this movie. I'm a sucker for time warp films, so this was right up my alley, and I really enjoyed the main character, as well as her performance throughout the film. The story was very interesting, and the movie was competently handled with some really good directing, editing, and visuals throughout. Also, loved the music choices.
03/06/21 - DirectorJon TurteltaubStarsJason StathamBingbing LiRainn WilsonA group of scientists exploring the Marianas Trench encounter the largest marine predator that has ever existed - the Megalodon.Ehhhhh. I mean, I was never bored in this movie, but there are a ton of scenes of just people sitting in rooms talking about the shark, instead of actually fighting the shark. Also, the first 45 to 50 minutes feels like set up before the really cool shark action starts, and even then, the shark action feels small-scale and neutered. I liked Jason Statham, as always, but I won't be dying to watch this again.
03/06/21 - DirectorKaren MaineStarsNatalia DyerTimothy SimonsWolfgang NovogratzAfter an innocent AOL chat turns racy, a Catholic teenager in the early 2000s discovers masturbation and struggles to suppress her new urges in the face of eternal damnation.I really enjoyed this film! I have an interest in religion, so I'm slightly biased, but I found this extremely entertaining for a coming-of-age/sexual awakening movie. Natalia Dyer is so good, giving a really subtle performance that is extremely expressive and watchable. And watching her navigate through this repressing culture while she's trying to figure out who she is and what she believes is very fascinating. There's a lot of good comedy, drama, and romance here, and overall I just found this movie to resonate with me on a personal level, and I really enjoyed my time with it.
03/07/21 - DirectorLogan Marshall-GreenStarsEthan HawkeElaine HendrixBetty GabrielAn ex-felon discovers a live baby left in a dumpster.A good film, if perhaps too short and not emotional enough for my liking. This was a very subtle movie, in everything from its performances to its story. I really wanted more with this, which is a good thing, surely, but I did feel lacking when the movie was over.

03/09/21 - DirectorSean BakerStarsBrooklynn PrinceBria VinaiteWillem DafoeSet over one summer, the film follows precocious six-year-old Moonee as she courts mischief and adventure with her ragtag playmates and bonds with her rebellious but caring mother, all while living in the shadows of Walt Disney World.Really well acted and I liked my time with this, but very depressing watching children grow up in a poor environment with parents who don't care about them. Also, hated the last 30 seconds of the film. However, as I said, all the acting is great, and the ride is good - it's just a depressing story that I didn't necessarily enjoy watching, but I appreciated it.
03/11/21 - DirectorFlorian ZellerStarsAnthony HopkinsOlivia ColmanMark GatissA man refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages. As he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.Fantastically acted, really good emotional drama, and in some ways a thriller as well. Anthony Hopkins knocks it out of the park here, as does the rest of the cast. A heartbreaking film, but we'll worth the watch.
03/13/21 - DirectorCristian MungiuStarsAnamaria MarincaLaura VasiliuVlad IvanovA woman assists her friend in arranging an illegal abortion in 1980s Romania.Really liked this one, a masterclass in minimalist drama. Really suspenseful, fantastically acted, and one of the best endings I've seen in a while.

The 2017 version is dead. Long live Zack Snyder's vision. This movie is superior in every way, with more story, action, and most importantly, heart, that led to a visually gorgeous, emotionally resonant, and action-packed film that will be sure to please fans. Today is a good day to be a DC fan, and a Snyder fan.

Pretentious, boring, melodramatic, don't even want to talk anymore about this. Felt like it was sucking my life force out while I was watching.
03/21/2021 - DirectorTim StoryStarsChloë Grace MoretzMichael PeñaColin JostA chaotic battle ensues between Jerry Mouse, who has taken refuge in the Royal Gate Hotel, and Tom Cat, who is hired to drive him away before the day of a big wedding arrives. Not much to say - gives you pretty much exactly what you'd expect. It's a Tom and Jerry film, with some human characters in it. I found it mildly amusing, but will probably never watch it again.
03/22/21 - DirectorMikael HåfströmStarsColin O'DonoghueAnthony HopkinsCiarán HindsAmerican seminary student Michael Kovak travels to Italy to take an exorcism course.Very boring exorcism movie. Great acting from Mr. Hopkins, but had a really stale, wooden lead. The last act is beyond cliched, and the build up to is nothing we haven't seen before, and done better. This is one I won't remember watching in a couple months.

Ben Affleck's Batman is the best Batman of all time, and I've watched this movie about four or five times now, and I love his performance more each time. Great action in here, too. It is a little long (I watch the ultimate edition) but its well worth it.

Just a really high-energy, fun, feel-good film with a few questionable decisions thrown in. Wasn't a fan of all of it like I am of the first, but I was loving most of it - great action, great performances, and a really funny plot. Excited to watch this one again.
03/28/21 - DirectorSimon KinbergStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceJean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix, causing the X-Men to have to decide if her life is worth more than all of humanity.Sloppy, unfinished, and boring. A few cool scenes, but mediocre as a whole, with an obviously reshot last act that feels thrown in strictly for gratuitous action. Not a horrendous film, but just an average one.
03/30/21 - DirectorKenneth LonerganStarsCasey AffleckMichelle WilliamsKyle ChandlerA depressed uncle is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy's father dies. Not sure how to feel with this. Loved the acting, loved the story, loved the setting, especially loved the music, but the story felt a little too unfinished. I'll definitely watch this again one day, but its unfinished feel, though purposeful, put me off.
03/31/21 - DirectorAdam WingardStarsAlexander SkarsgårdMillie Bobby BrownRebecca HallThe epic next chapter in the cinematic Monsterverse pits two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against each other--the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong--with humanity caught in the balance. The thing about this movie is that the fights are badass - everything else is boring, and mediocre. Compared to the 2014 "Godzilla" which had real human moments of drama and tragedy, "Godzilla vs. Kong" decides to play up everything for laughs, meaning there is little tension. Additionally, the human characters are relentlessly boring to watch, meaning the only respite is during the scenes of carnage between the titular characters. It's an okay film, better than "King of the Monsters", but "Godzilla" is still my favorite of the four monsterverse films.

As people flock to witness her miracles, terrifying events unfold. Are they the work of the Virgin Mary or something much more sinister?Horrible - such a great premise, but the execution is piss-poor. Bad acting, generic scares - there's no creativity at play here, which is a shame with the main premise is legitimately creative.
04/04/21 - DirectorJustin KurzelStarsMichael FassbenderMarion CotillardJeremy IronsCallum Lynch explores the memories of his ancestor Aguilar de Nerha and gains the skills of a Master Assassin, before taking on the secret Templar society.Haven't seen this since 2016, so I decided to give it a go again - just as disappointing now as it was 5 years ago. You can tell how much they cut out of this film, as it feels disjointed. Additionally, the action is so quickly edited that it becomes incomprehensible, and so bloodless that it feels silly. Really would've loved to see a director's cut, because there is potential.

Really slick, gory action, fantastic CGI, and really well-edited fights. The story isn't that good, and there wasn't really a tournament in sight, but as a modern introduction to the Mortal Kombat story, this was fun.

- DirectorStefano SollimaStarsMichael B. JordanJodie Turner-SmithJamie BellAn elite Navy SEAL goes on a path to avenge his wife's murder only to find himself inside of a larger conspiracy.Horrendously boring, god almighty. Again, this was a bloodless, bland action movie, more PG-13 then R. It took no risks - the action was semi-okay, but the final act takes a bizarre turn, turning our hero into a villain, and it immediately took me out of everything. I'd like to see a sequel, because Michael B. Jordan was good, but I'd like to see a sequel with a more tight-knit story, and violent action.
04/30/21 - DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsJennifer O'NeillStephen LackPatrick McGoohanA scientist trains a man with an advanced telepathic ability called "scanning" to stop a dangerous Scanner with extraordinary psychic powers from waging war against non scanners.Pretty boring - not much to say. While mildly cliche with the found footage gimmick, the found footage is genuinely terrifying to watch. Great acting all around, a really unique take on an alien abduction story, and just a chilling film - would recommend.
05/04/21 - DirectorGuy RitchieStarsJason StathamHolt McCallanyJosh HartnettA mysteriously stoic character is hired as a security guard by a cash truck company responsible for transporting a lot of money around Los Angeles each week.A damn fine film - so slickly edited and directed, with pitch perfect acting. Jason Statham was badass as always, but the film as a whole was so unique, more thriller than action, with chilling set pieces a plenty. There's so much to satisfy here, and the overall dark tone just added to the tension. Loved this.
05/07/21 - DirectorLouis LeterrierStarsEdward NortonLiv TylerTim RothBruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. Government, must find a cure for the monster he turns into whenever he loses his temper.Ehhhhh. The Hulk action is fun, especially the 2nd and 3rd act set pieces. However, the film as a whole is surprisingly dull, throwing its audience into the mix without even a proper introduction of its characters. Because of this, I never felt emotionally connected to Bruce or his plight, and I honestly thought most of the acting was mediocre. That said, this is worth a watch for its action, which is genuinely impressive.
05/12/21 - DirectorDarren Lynn BousmanStarsChris RockSamuel L. I was hoping for a more innovative movie, or at least a twist on the classic Saw style, but the slick direction and energetic main performance by Chris Rock made me like this movie a lot - plus, I'm a fan of the Saw films. Not my favorite in the series, but definitely better than the previous film.
05/14/21 - DirectorZack SnyderStarsDave BautistaElla PurnellAna de la RegueraFollowing a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.Ehh. I love Zack Snyder, but this movie didn't do it for me. It was okay. It was fun, funny, and entertaining at points, but the whole thing felt a little too ridiculous, and lacking the patented Zack Snyder visual flair. I'll definitely give it another go at some point to see if I enjoy it more or less.

As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one suspect: John Kramer, the man known as Jigsaw, who has been dead for over 10 years.Enjoyable. This doesn't feel like a saw film - it's the most toned down, least violent, most generic feeling of the bunch. It feels like a thriller that's meant for mainstream appeal. Because of that, it's almost impossible to not have fun while watching, because it's engineered for you to have fun while watching. I enjoyed it.
05/16/21 - DirectorTaylor SheridanStarsAngelina JolieNicholas HoultFinn LittleA teenage murder witness finds himself pursued by twin assassins in the Montana wilderness with a survival expert tasked with protecting him -- and a forest fire threatening to consume them all. This movie was so much fun. It's not a good movie - but it's so ridiculous, cheesy, campy, and silly that I couldn't help but have fun. It really feels like a throwback action film. Plus, Jon Bernthal rocks his role here.

Loved the attractive ladies, loved the action, love Henry Cavill, but overall this show was needlessly confusing and convoluted. Plot was hard to follow, and not easy to understand. I eventually got a grasp of things, but it was a case of too little, too late, as I found my enjoyment dwindling after every episode. That said, I will watch season 2, and hope it learns from the mistakes of this season.

But, if you can suspend your disbelief, you'll have a lot of fun.

Yeah, I hated this to be quite honest - John Cusack saves it because of how fun he is to watch - the rest made me want to gouge my eyes out.

However, and just like the first, the main draw is Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga - they are so good together, and their interactions with the haunted family are so full of heart that I found myself absolutely loving this film. The movie has a great undercurrent of love to it that I found sweet and irresistible.

This isn't a haunted house film like the first 2 were, which is a welcome change of pace. The story feels slightly more ridiculous, with things happening that are clearly fictional and completely unbelievable. That said, I enjoyed watching Wilson and Farmiga so much that I couldn't help but like this movie.
