2015-2016 TV Season Cancellations
This is for all the TV show cancellations for broadcast networks during the 2015-2016 TV season. TV shows that are announced to be ending while that season is already airing will be added here as well. It would be placed here even if the show is given an official ending because in my book, that's a courtesy cancellation, but still a cancellation. However, shows like American Idol wouldn't be added since it was announced well before they started airing their final season. This list will be updated as often as new information becomes available so make sure to check back. Cancellations will go on here in chronological order.
Don't see a show on here? It may have been renewed or could be in danger.

The initial episode order was 13, but the network reduced it to 10 due to poor ratings. Many of the networks have been amping up their game in fall cancellation chicken, with who will cancel the first show of the season. Some networks have instead quietly cancelled their fall 2015 duds by reducing the episode count, letting them burn off the remaining episodes and then pretend they never existed. The final episode aired December 13th, 2015.

Despite critical acclaim, the series received weak ratings which resulted in an episode trim from 13 to just 9. The final episode aired November 19th, 2015.

This is certainly not what many expected would be the first official cancellation of the TV season. ANTM launched on UPN, airing 6 seasons until the famous merging of UPN and The WB in the fall of 2006. The series was the first to air on The CW and as it grew older with diminishing ratings, stunt seasons were employed. The latest were co-ed seasons which invited male models onto the show to compete with the women. The series finale will air on December 4th. A retrospective on the series is also expected to air before the finale.
Update: On 11/4/15, it was reported that one of the producers is exploring other options for the series to continue with future seasons. Due to its success with being syndicated on cable networks and online streaming services, it seems like there could be hope for the reality show after all.
Update: On 2/23/16, VH1 picked the series up for a 14-episode season. This will remain here, however, as it was still cancelled by The CW. - CreatorSteven BaigelmanStarsJeremy SistoTaissa FarmigaGabriel LunaA pair of LAPD detectives track down serial killers terrorizing the Sunset Strip. On 11/13/15, ABC made the first official cancellation of a new show. The 1980s-set police drama started off with fairly weak numbers, and drastically dropped the following 2 episodes. Despite claims the series was going to involve a new case each season, they have not finished season one and apparently won't get the chance. There was going to be 10 episodes but production will shut down after episode 8. The series has also been pulled from the schedule and there is no word on when or if the remaining episodes will air.
Update: On 12/22/15, episodes 4-7 were made available on Hulu. The eighth and final episode (which is said to wrap up the story) is not completed yet, but will likely be available soon.
Update: On 12/31/15, the final episode was added to Hulu. - CreatorDJ NashStarsMark-Paul GosselaarTone BellVanessa LacheyA look at the life of two best friends, a meek politically correct Caucasian ethics professor and an easy-going African American, and their families. On 12/10/15, NBC “quietly cancelled” the poorly rated sitcom after one season. Blamed for the tragic event, those with extraordinary abilities are in hiding or on the run from those with nefarious motives. On 1/13/16, NBC confirmed it would not return for another season. While this was always billed as a miniseries, that seems to not matter much with many mini/event series continuing if successful. Heroes Reborn certainly was not a hit in the ratings, so it looks likely to be the last installment of the franchise for now.
- CreatorMichelle KingRobert KingStarsJulianna MarguliesChris NothJosh CharlesAlicia Florrick has been a good wife to her husband, a former state's attorney. After a very humiliating sex and corruption scandal, he is behind bars. She must now provide for her family and returns to work as a litigator in a law firm.On 2/7/16, CBS announced the series would conclude after months of speculation that this could be the final season. There are 9 episodes left to air, and it expected to have an official and satisfying finale.
- CreatorTad QuillStarsJane LynchMaggie LawsonKyle BornheimerAllison isn't quite sure if her new friend, Amy, is her guardian angel or a crazy person. On 2/8/16, CBS sent the angel back to the fiery underworld. After 5 episodes, the series received such poor ratings CBS couldn't even allow it to air the remaining episodes like they usually do in these situations. There is no word yet on when the remaining 8 episodes will air, but back-to-back episodes in the summer seems likely.
Update: The remaining 8 episodes will be aired in pairs each Saturday starting July 2nd. - CreatorJonathan NolanStarsJim CaviezelTaraji P. However, the details of the crimes, including the civilians' roles, are left a mystery. On 3/16/16, it was announced the CBS series would conclude with its upcoming fifth season. The series had been on the bubble for quite some time, but the signs of season five being the last were far too obvious. CBS ordered a 13-episode season, clearly less than the usual 22-23. Then the truncated fifth season was held back till midseason, which has now turned out to be late spring. Then Sarah Shahi landed a leading role on a Nancy Drew remake series. Lastly, series producer JJ Abrams admitted in March that season five looks like it is the last. They did apparently make sure the finale would give enough closure if it was the series finale, however. There is always the chance CBS might end up being happy enough with the ratings that they give it a sixth season, but it seems unlikely at this point. The final season starts May 3rd and runs through June 21st, totaling 103 episodes.

When Howard Stark is accused of treason, he secretly recruits Peggy to clear his name with the help of his butler, Edwin Jarvis. On 5/12/16, ABC left Peggy Carter in the 1940s for good. The first season had halfway decent ratings, but the Marvel brand was obviously the main reason it received a second season renewal. However, with absolutely horrible ratings in season two, this cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise. There were also questions when leading lady Hayley Atwell signed on to a new series on ABC. In the demo, it's only doing slightly better than already cancelled dramas "Wicked City" and "Of Kings and Prophets." While in the total viewership ratings, it's only doing slightly better than "Wicked City." The final episode aired March 1st, 2016, totaling 18 episodes altogether.

The series started off with weak ratings and dropped fast. It currently ranks as the lowest-rated series in total viewership. Starting March 6th, it was moved from its post-"Family Guy" slot to the 7:00pm slot, before a rerun of “The Simpsons." It also only besting also cancelled "Minority Report" & "Second Chance" in the demo ratings. In the total viewership, it’s the lowest-rated scripted show on the network. There’s currently only 2 of the 13 episodes left to air – the final one scheduled to bow on May 22nd.
- CreatorAndrew W. MarloweStarsNathan FillionStana KaticSusan SullivanWhen a psychopath commits murders based on novelist Castle's books, Detective Beckett seeks his help to solve the case. He decides to work with her and uses his experiences as research for his novels. On 5/12/16, ABC announced there would be no season nine after nearly a month of fan upset. There was always a question of whether or not the series would get a ninth season renewal as the ratings were not as great any longer. However, fans were outraged when ABC announced they had let co-lead Stana Katic go from a potential season nine due to budget cuts. Unlike Patrick Dempsey’s exit from “Grey’s Anatomy,” this proved to be a lasting PR nightmare for ABC as ratings began to dive even while Katic was still on the show. There was talk of having Nathan Fillion’s Castle on his own in a shortened ninth season with the season eight finale giving a “tragic end” to him and Beckett's love story. However, fans will instead get the happy, closure-filled alternate ending which was filmed in case they were cancelled. The 173 and final episode will air May 16th.
- CreatorJulie PlecStarsDavid GyasiChristina MosesChris WoodThe series follows an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, leaving the large city quarantined and those stuck on the inside fighting for their lives. On 5/12/16, The CW permanently quarantined the freshman series after only 4 episodes. The cancellation comes as a bit of a surprise as the series was performing better than most of the current 12 shows airing: #6 out in demo and #5 in total viewership. While this was billed as a “limited event series,” the writers had already been talking about a second season. Episodes are expected to continue airing through the early summer months. This marks the only scripted show The CW has cancelled this TV season.

Cooper is seriously attracted to neighbor Kelly while ignoring advice from his brother Josh and his wife Leslie. On 5/12/16, Fox officially cancelled the freshman sitcom after one season. This comes as little surprise since the series was quietly pulled from the schedule back in April, with 3 of the 13 episodes left unaired. The ratings were very weak from the start, with the overall run ranking it second-to-last in total viewership. It also didn’t perform much better in the demo ratings, either. There is no word on if the unaired episodes will be made available, but they will probably show up online eventually.

The 2016-17 season will be the first without a CSI series on the schedule in 16 seasons. The series was on the bubble with the first season, but it took a nosedive with the second. It currently ranks at the lowest-rated scripted series in the demo. It placed as the third lowest-rated drama in total viewership, only doing slightly better than “Elementary” (renewed) and “Rush Hour” (in danger). The 31st and final episode aired on March 13th, 2016.
- CreatorJenna BansStarsJoan AllenRupert GravesAlison PillA community is rattled when a politician's son, who was presumed murdered years ago, returns home.On 5/12/16, ABC cancelled the freshman drama after one short season. The series debuted to decent ratings, but they soon began to dip. The 12th episode and unofficial series finale will air on May 15th, 2016.
- CreatorDan FogelmanStarsJoshua SasseTimothy OmundsonVinnie JonesA musical comedy adventure featuring a knight on a quest for love who helps a childish king to see the error of his ways.On 5/12/16, ABC axed the medieval-musical-comedy extravaganza after two short seasons. The series was on the bubble when it debuted in 2015, but had decent enough ratings for a second outing. However, season two saw absolutely horrible ratings. It didn’t help that ABC quietly aired season 2 without much promoting going on. It resides as the lowest-rated scripted series on ABC in both demo and total viewership for this TV season. So the cancellation doesn’t come as much of a surprise, especially since leading man Joshua Sasse had already moved onto a new series. The final episodes aired on January 31st, 2016, with a total of 18 altogether.
- CreatorDaniel ChunStarsJohn StamosPaget BrewsterJosh PeckA confirmed bachelor discovers he's a dad--and a grandfather. On 5/12/16, Fox abandoned the freshman sitcom. While the ratings were not stellar, it was doing slightly better than fellow freshman comedy "The Grinder." It seemed as if the network was going to pick between the two, but they apparently had different plans. The ratings, however, did gradually decline as the season progressed (especially in the demo) which was likely what made the network uneasy about renewing it. There was a total of 22 episodes, the final one having aired on May 10th.

As mentioned above, it was doing slightly worse than "Grandfathered" in the ratings. As the season went on, the ratings dropped. There was a total of 22 episodes, the final one having aired on May 10th.

The series was highly anticipated, but the ratings were not so great and it was heavily criticized for multiple reasons. ABC decided to bring in a new showrunner halfway through the season to shake things up, but it didn’t really work as the ratings continued to drop. The finale did wrap up at least one major question hovering over fans before the series even started: Kermit and Miss Piggy did get back together. There was a total of 16 episodes with the final one having aired on March 1st.
- CreatorCallie KhouriStarsHayden PanettiereClare BowenCharles EstenFollows the lives and tragedies of rising and fading country music stars in Nashville, Tennessee. On 5/12/16, ABC cancelled the country music drama after four seasons. The series has been on the bubble since the first season, but it seemed as if the network was likely to renew it for a fifth season since they brought in a new wiring team and all. However, the network ultimately decided to cancel the series. Total viewership places it between “Quantico” and “The Real O’Neals,” both renewed. While the demo places it between “The Catch” (renewed) and “Blood & Oil” (unofficially cancelled). The 86th and final episode is scheduled to air May 25th, 2016. There is no word yet on if the season finale is being re-tooled to fit as a series finale.
Update: Since the cancellation announcement, the hashtag #BringBackNashville has been trending and growing each day. On May 20th, it was reported that Lionsgate TV was shopping the series to other networks for a potential fifth season.
Update: The finale ended on a fairly huge cliffhanger, which was soon revealed to be one of two endings - the alternate other being a happy one. However Lionsgate said they did this because they believe there is more to the story. Having the last episode end with a cliffhanger does make it more lucrative for a potential new network.
Update: On 6/10/16, CMT officially picked the series up for a 22-episode fifth season. The series premiered with good numbers, but the ratings soon dipped after that. There are just 4 episodes left and it appears NBC will continue to air them. Producers had previously said there will be some semblance of closure in the finale, but it will also leave it open for future storylines. The 10th and final episode is scheduled to air June 5th.

This comes as little surprise since most had written the show off as officially cancelled when Fox cut the episode count from 13 to 10 due to poor ratings. It ranks as one of the lowest-rated shows on the network in both demo and total viewership. The unofficial series finale aired November 30th, 2015.

The series seemed to be facing problems from the start of pilot season with its name changing several times and then the 13-episode order being trimmed to 11. This doesn't come as much of a surprise since it was paired up with "Superstore" in the off-season for network TV and most only expected one to get a renewal. Once "Superstore" was renewed in February, it was obvious "Telenovela" was on it's way out. There were 11 episodes, with the final one having aired on February 22nd, 2016.

The series debuted in the summer months of 2014 to mediocre ratings, but it was given a second season and placed in the midseason lineup where the ratings went up some. After a successful live season two finale, the network decided all season three episodes would be live. Unfortunately, the ratings began to drop in the third season - making it one of the lowest-rated shows on the network. The 36th and final episode aired January 29th, 2016.

While the ratings were fairly solid for the show (#3 most watched on the network), it's likely due to the fact that NBC does not own the series; Warner Bros. TV does. And apparently WBTV has no plans on finding a new home for the show. The 38th and final episode aired March 2nd, 2016.

The ratings were lackluster from the start, making the show the lowest-rated scripted series on the network in total viewership. In the demo ratings, it came in second-to-last, just before also cancelled "CSI: Cyber." CBS appears to be sticking with its scheduled plan to air the remaining 5 episodes through June 23rd.

The series, which acts as a sequel to the 2011 film of the same name, started off with solid numbers. However, they gradually declined over the course of 22 episodes, granting it bubble status. There appeared to be some hope when it remained the only series that CBS had yet to decide it's fate mid-May. Executive producer Craig Sweeny tweeted out that the show "will not continue on any platform," which likely means they had been attempting to shop it around. The final episode aired April 26th.

The series debuted to lackluster ratings and dropped further in its second week. Factoring in how it was held until the summer was aired in traditional burnoff mode (2 episodes each week), ABC likely knew this was DOA. This is the second failed attempt at adapting the 1989 John Candy movie for television, the first was in 1990. There were a total of 8 episodes, the final two having aired on July 5th.

While this was billed as a "miniseries" and a "limited series," we all know current TV allows those labels to be meaningless. The ratings were unfortunately very bad, and the very scarce promoting of the series likely didn't help. The series had a total of 10 episodes, with the final on having aired on July 4th.

The series has been on the bubble since it started and had many major cast changes during its run so this was not entirely shocking. However, the fourth season saw a noticeable drop in the ratings which placed it as one of the lowest-rated scripted shows for the 2015-16 season on ABC. The series amassed 52 episodes, with the final one airing September 6th.

It seemed like a goner last summer, with such low ratings and all, but it snagged a renewal. However, season two saw even weaker ratings so the chances seem slim. Especially when NBC announced the series would be moving to Saturdays in back-to-back burn off formation. The series had a total of 26 episodes, with the final two airing September 10th.
