2013 Directors' Fortnight
The Directors' Fortnight (“Quinzaine des Realisateurs”) is a selection of films and filmmakers, sponsored by the French Directors Guild, that was established in the wake of a firing.
In May of 1968 the dismissal of the corpulent genius, Henri Langlois, the lion of the French Cinematheque, sparked protests lead by the likes of of protests by Francois Truffaut, Jean Luc Godard and other French New Wave directors. The protests led to riots in the streets and, as the French are wont to do, decided to commemorate the event the next year. The Fortnight “after seeks to aid filmmakers and contribute to their discovery by the critics and audiences alike.”
This year the 45th Fortnight will screen 21 feature films, many from first-time filmmakers, including 16 world premieres. Though the Fortnight is non-competitive the first-time films are eligible for the Camera d’Or prize.
