- DirectorMartin McDonaghStarsColin FarrellBrendan GleesonCiarán HindsAfter a job gone wrong, hitman Ray and his partner await orders from their ruthless boss in Bruges, Belgium, the last place in the world Ray wants to be.If you were to see a trailer for this movie, you'd think it'd be a Guy Ritchie-esque gangster film that takes place in this Belgian city. But if you were to watch this film, you'd say "Quentin Tarantino couldn't make a movie like this, let alone Guy Ritchie". This is a powerful film, very funny, very sad, and very Irish.

- DirectorAlexander PayneStarsMatthew BroderickReese WitherspoonLoren NelsonA high school teacher meets his match in an over-achieving student politician. This is both my favorite high school movie and my favorite political satire. Alexander Payne's screenplay is one of the greatest ever written. Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon give the best performances of their careers, although every actor is phenomenal in it. And also, it's that rare high school film where the high school students actually look like high school students!

- DirectorMel GibsonStarsMel GibsonSophie MarceauPatrick McGoohanScottish warrior William Wallace leads his countrymen in a rebellion to free his homeland from the tyranny of King Edward I of England.I love this movie, yeah it's a bit corny and you can make trading cards over the number of historical inaccuracies, but if you look at it as a fictionalized legend of William Wallace, it's brilliant. I don't think any other director brings passion to his work more than Mel Gibson. And see it for the fight scenes and gorgeous cinematography of the Scottish highlands.
- DirectorJohn G. AvildsenStarsSylvester StalloneTalia ShireBurt YoungA small-time Philadelphia boxer gets a supremely rare chance to fight the world heavyweight champion in a bout in which he strives to go the distance for his self-respect.
- DirectorRobert WiseStarsJulie AndrewsChristopher PlummerEleanor ParkerA young novice is sent by her convent in 1930s Austria to become a governess to the seven children of a widowed naval officer. My favorite musical. The 60s was the best decade for these kind of movies. In fact four of the ten Best Pictures from 1960 to 1969 were musicals. But this is my favorite. Classic songs, great story, and I can never say a single thing bad about Julie Andrews. Though the best thing about the movie is probably the scenery filmed on location in Salzburg.
- DirectorLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackThe toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home.I had to put at least one Pixar movie on this list. I picked this one because it came at the perfect time in my life. It came out right after I graduated high school and Andy (Buzz and Woody's owner) was going off to college. The last scene of the movie, when Andy gives away Buzz and Woody had me sobbing for days. And as much as I love movies, I rarely cry in the theater.
