- DirectorTom SixStarsLaurence R. HarveyAshlynn YennieMaddi BlackInspired by the fictional Dr. Heiter, disturbed loner Martin dreams of creating a 12-person centipede and sets out to realize his sick fantasy.Probably one of the most deranged movies I've ever seen. Not as good as the first, but somehow more perverted, especially when he tries to have sex with it. The hammer teeth scene definitely made me cringe.
- DirectorMichael CuestaStarsBrian CoxPaul DanoBruce AltmanA 15-year-old Long Island boy loses everything and everyone he knows, soon becoming involved in a relationship with a much older man.Intriguing indie movie. I read that Cox was great and he didn't disappoint. The movie was very creepy but tastefully done. Wish the ending was better.
- DirectorJonah LoopStarsSamuel L. JacksonKellan LutzJohnny MessnerDavid Lord finds himself forced into the savage world of a modern gladiatorial arena, where men fight to the death for the entertainment of the online masses.Better than the usual "kidnap fighters to compete in death matches for online profit" movie. Samuel L Jackson and some gory killings makes this movie watchable at least. That's more than I can say for most movies of this sub-genre.
- DirectorTodd HollandStarsFred SavageLuke EdwardsJenny LewisA boy and his brother run away from home and hitch cross-country, with help from a girl they meet, to compete in the ultimate video-game championship.Great movie to watch as a kid. Savage didn't over act, and any movie centered around Nintendo games gets a plus rating for me. This flick also sports one of the greatest (and by that I mean one of the worst) lines in movie history, "I love the Power Glove.....it's so bad!".
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsSean AstinJosh BrolinJeff CohenA group of young misfits called The Goonies discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate's long-lost treasure.HEY YOU GUYS....gotta see this movie if you haven't already. Solid acting, great storyline and a ton of memorable quotes. The truffle shuffle is still used to this day.
- DirectorGéla BabluaniStarsSam RileyAlice BarrettGaby HoffmannA naive young man assumes a dead man's identity and finds himself embroiled in an underground world of power, violence, and chance where men gamble behind closed doors on the lives of other men.I've never seen a movie that had a such a good beginning and such a horrible ending in my life. Up until 40 mins in, this movie is a 10. The final 40 mins is a 2. It's such a shame...with a little more thought, this could have been a great movie.
- DirectorJim SheridanStarsDaniel CraigRachel WeiszNaomi WattsSoon after moving into their seemingly idyllic new home, a family learns of a brutal crime committed against former residents of the dwelling. It wasn't at all what I expected, but I enjoyed it. Not scary at all and somewhat confusing at times, this movie kept me interested in the story. Not for everyone.
- DirectorAndrew NiccolStarsJustin TimberlakeAmanda SeyfriedCillian MurphyIn a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth. Will Salas is accused of murder and on the run with a hostage.I was really looking forward to this movie and it didn't disappoint. The plot was interesting and the little subtleties and puns referring to time were really well thought out. Great writing coupled with another good performance from Timberlake makes this a must see film.
- DirectorJames WatkinsStarsDaniel RadcliffeJanet McTeerCiarán HindsA young solicitor travels to a remote village where he discovers that the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals.I expected a little more from this movie. 4 of the 6 "scares" were already shown on the trailer and the other two were very predictable. Radcliffe was ok, not great, and the story made little sense compared to the original.
- DirectorMel BrooksStarsMel BrooksJohn CandyRick MoranisA star-pilot for hire and his trusty sidekick must come to the rescue of a princess and save Planet Druidia from the clutches of the evil Spaceballs. One of the tried and true best comedies of our generation. What makes this movie so funny is the coming together of all different kinds of comedy. Be it sarcasm, stereotypical, slapstick, you name it, it's here, and it's hilarious.
- DirectorMatthew ParkhillStarsRachelle LefevreStephen MoyerLorna RaverA young divorcee is getting her life back together by moving into an apartment. But what will she do when a strange person repeatedly calls her, and threatens to change her new life around?A weird twist on a "don't answer the phone" horror movie. Halfway through, you realized something was different with this movie, and it kept me watching. The last 30 mins were very well written a definitely a little freaky.
- DirectorAndrew StantonStarsTaylor KitschLynn CollinsWillem DafoeTransported to Barsoom, a Civil War vet discovers a barren planet seemingly inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter Woola and a princess in desperate need of a savior.I saw this in IMAX 3d, if I hadn't, I probably would have given this movie three stars. The action was good, but the plot just kept getting more ridiculous by the minute.
- DirectorWarren LeightStarsMatthew BroderickJeanne TripplehornAnnabella SciorraBrian, painter Ellen and chef Sam timeshare an apartment on different days. A shift on Mon/Wednesdays causes mistaken identity as Ellen and Sam have never met but leave notes, food etc. behind for each other.Probably the worst chick flick I've ever seen. The plot was very confusing, the actors didn't really seem to care about main events of the movie effecting them at all but probably the worse offense...the audio didn't match the actor's lips in several parts of the film.
- DirectorCarl TibbettsStarsThandiwe NewtonCillian MurphyJamie BellKate and Martin escape from personal tragedy to an Island Retreat. Cut off from the outside world, their attempts to recover are shattered when a Man is washed ashore, with news of airborne killer disease that is sweeping through Europe. Not for everyone, but this movie had some great twists and turns and a very unpredictable endng. The majority of this movie was just a three person cast and they all fit very well together.
- DirectorJonathan LynnStarsJoe PesciMarisa TomeiRalph MacchioTwo New Yorkers accused of murder in rural Alabama while on their way back to college call in the help of one of their cousins, a loudmouth lawyer with no trial experience. If you have seen this movie once, you know multiple lines from this movie, you've seen it more than once, odds are you know the entires movies line by line....that's how good this movie is.
- DirectorDaniel MinahanStarsBrooke SmithMarylouise BurkeMark WoodburyA TV program selects people at random to kill one another for fame and their freedom. This movie was waaaaaaaay ahead of it's time. It's like the running man meats survivor and it was made in 1995, before anyone had ever heard of survivor! If this were an actual show (using fake actors of course), this would be my favorite show on television.
- DirectorNeil MarshallStarsShauna MacdonaldNatalie MendozaAlex ReidA caving expedition goes horribly wrong, as the explorers become trapped and ultimately pursued by a strange breed of predators. One of the original "newer" cave exploration thrillers where stupid, inexperienced females face certain death. Oh yeah there are legitimately creepy cave dwellers attacking them in their race against time. One of the best lines ever quotes The Count from Sesame Street...one bat, two bats, fifty bats, ah ah ah.
- DirectorLucky McKeeStarsPollyanna McIntoshBrandon Gerald FullerLauren Ashley CarterWhen a successful country lawyer captures and attempts to "civilize" the last remaining member of a violent clan that has roamed the Northeast coast for decades, he puts the lives of his family in jeopardy. This is truly one of the most disturbing movies I've ever seen. It's so disturbing that I don't even want to give it away the gory details. It legitimately made my girlfriend nauseous. The build up was slow but necessary in order to set up the ending. If you like this kind of movie, watch it, you won't be disappointed.
- DirectorGeorge NolfiStarsMatt DamonEmily BluntLisa ThoresonThe affair between a politician and a contemporary dancer is affected by mysterious forces keeping the lovers apart.Great first half, but then turned to a love story. Not that I mind a love story every now and then but this movie was not what I thought it was going to be.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsKevin SpaceyGabriel ByrneChazz PalminteriThe sole survivor of a pier shoot-out tells the story of how a notorious criminal influenced the events that began with five criminals meeting in a seemingly random police lineup. Not much to say about this movie that hasn't already been said. A beautiful work of art that you learn something new from each and every time you watch it.
- DirectorRon HowardStarsVince VaughnKevin JamesWinona RyderA man discovers that his best friend's wife is having an affair. Not sure where to go with this movie. Below average performances from both Vince and Kevin but Channing was somewhat entertaining.
- DirectorShawn LevyStarsHugh JackmanEvangeline LillyDakota GoyoIn the near future, robot boxing is a top sport. A struggling ex-boxer feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot. It's "Over the Top" but instead of arm wrestling it's robot boxing. It loses 4 stars for not having Sylvester Stallone in the lead role.
- DirectorJames WanStarsRyan KwantenAmber VallettaDonnie WahlbergAfter his wife meets a grisly end, Jamie Ashen returns to his hometown of Ravens Fair to find answers. His investigation leads him to the ghost of a ventriloquist named Mary Shaw who seems to have ties to his entire family treeThis movie was really hyped but for some reason did not draw well at the box office. I liked it, it definitely had one or two chilling moments. While the acting is not great, it's worth a watch if you like horror movies.
- DirectorAndrew van den HoutenStarsJessica ButlerKelly CareyHolter GrahamAgainst the backdrop of grisly murders and child abductions, a clan of cannibalistic savages which plague the North-east Coast since 1858, is after an unsuspecting family and their innocent baby girl. Do they have what it takes to survive?I really didn't understand this movie at all. It was very bloody and very gory and that's all well and good, but it's lacks everything else. Very confusing movie with no real plot development and very bad acting.
- DirectorDonald PetrieStarsKate HudsonMatthew McConaugheyAdam GoldbergBenjamin Barry is an advertising executive and ladies' man who, to win a big campaign, bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. There is a soft spot in my heart for this movie. It is one of my favorite chick flicks of all time. A lot of what is said in this movie about the dating world is true and Hudson looked hot the whole movie.
- DirectorSean DurkinStarsElizabeth OlsenSarah PaulsonJohn HawkesHaunted by painful memories and increasing paranoia, a damaged woman struggles to re-assimilate with her family after fleeing an abusive cult.Ok, I'm not a proponent of the "every movie should have an ending" philosophy. Some films do not need and ending. This film however really needed one. I got sucked into the story, the characters and symbolism...and then it just ended, just like that. Bad endings can ruin movies, and after watching this I found that no ending can ruin a movie just as easily.
- DirectorAlister GriersonStarsRhys WakefieldAllison CratchleyChristopher James BakerAn underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world.Seeing this in the IMAX theatre helped it's cause as the visual effects were stunning. As a movie, there really isn't anything special about this that makes it all that memorable. Its's a poor man's "The Descent", yet with a much bigger budget. Hmmm...
- DirectorHoward ZieffStarsAnna ChlumskyMacaulay CulkinDan AykroydVada is obsessed with death. Her mother is dead, and her father runs a funeral parlor. When Vada's father hires Shelly, a makeup expert, and begins to fall in love, Vada is outraged and does everything in her power to split them up.Good kids movie, Dan and Jamie Lee had great roles and played them well. I never knew why the girl that played Veda didn't have a solid acting career, she was a nice fit for her role. Good casting.
- DirectorJoseph RubenStarsMacaulay CulkinElijah WoodWendy CrewsonA young boy stays with his aunt and uncle and becomes friends with his cousin, a boy of the same age who shows increasing signs of violent and psychopathic behavior. This movie was great. As the movie went, it's kept getting darker and darker. I hate Elijah Wood, but he played the perfect good kid to Culkin's evil kid. The story just engrossed me and still does to thus day. A must see for all.
- DirectorDante TomaselliStarsFelissa RoseSalvatore Paul PiroDanny LopesSatan's Playground is a chiller with a vacationing family lost in the woods and the Jersey Devil lurking in the Pine Barrens.Sleepaway Camp is one of my favorite movies, so when I saw that Felicia Rose is staring in another movie as a grown-up, I reasoned that maybe it would at least be passable....my reasoning was incorrect. Horrible acting (even by Rose herself) and bad plot structure cannot always be saved by an interesting premise.
- DirectorJason FriedbergAaron SeltzerStarsSean MaguireKevin SorboCarmen ElectraA spoof of 300 (2006) and many other movies, TV series/shows/commercials, video games and celebrities. King Leonidas of Sparta and his army of 12 go to war against Xerxes of Persia to fight to the death for Sparta's freedom.Don't see this movie, no SERIOUSLY, do not see this movie. The phrase "I lost an hour and a half of my life" was invented to it could be said about this movie. I of course had to sit through it twice just to make sure it was that bad. So technically, I lost 3 hours of my life, but it gives me even more perspective...DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE!
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity. This is one of the rare movies that get so much pre release hype and actually comes through. The fighting scenes were very well done, the actors seemed comfortable sharing the screen with each other and the plot was exactly what it needed to be, deep enough to keep our interests but not too involved that the movie goer gets confused.
- DirectorEric ValetteStarsEdward BurnsShannyn SossamonAna Claudia TalancónSeveral people start receiving voice-mails from their future selves - messages which include the date, time, and some of the details of their deaths. One of the more average modern horror movies. Nothing really stands out about this film. Not enough scares and when the biggest thing that you take from this movie is finding out one of the spirits is the younger daughter from Modern Family, it's probably not high on your ratings list.
- DirectorJeremy BensonStarsChristian WalkerJohn StillJeanette ComansA group of college kids must decide what price they will pay to gain their freedom after being kidnapped by a ruthless White Slave trader.Whoever made this movie should never be allowed to go anywhere near a film set ever again. I couldn't wait for this movie to be over. Just awful.
- DirectorGary McKendryStarsJason StathamClive OwenRobert De NiroWhen his mentor is taken captive by a disgraced Arab sheik, a killer-for-hire is forced into action. His mission: kill three members of Britain's elite Special Air Service responsible for his sons' deaths. Not really sure about this one. There's action, action and more action, so much so that I almost got old. Just when I thought the movie was ending, they added an additional 30 mins to the movie.....TWICE!!! Yes, this happened twice. If this were a shorter film, it would have been much more enjoyable.
- DirectorWilliam A. LeveyStarsRon PalilloAbigail WolcottCarel TrichardtA motorcycle gang kidnaps a young woman, Josie, from a diner and brutally kills her. Many years later, the girl's father finds a magic crystal that can bring the dead back to life and uses it to re-animate his daughter. He lets her seduce any young men who visit the small town--Hellgate--then kills them. Four young students, two boys and two girls, spend a vacation near the town, hear about the story, and get involved. One of those "so bad it's good" slasher films of the 80's. Most of the film isn't that interesting at all but it's worth a watch if you like bad horror movies as it definitely contained some funny B movie laughs.
- DirectorRoy KnyrimStarsViolent JShaggy 2 DopeScott LevyIn a dystopian future, contestants compete in a cross-country road race in which killing is part of the game.I decided to check this out because I really liked the other movies in the "death race" sub genre. Unfortunately this movie did not live up to the others. I understand what they were trying to do with this movie since it is promoted as a movie with sex, violence, etc but it was very poorly done.
- DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsRobert Downey Jr.Zach GalifianakisMichelle MonaghanHigh-strung father-to-be Peter Highman is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay on a road trip in order to make it to his child's birth on time. For some reason I wasn't expecting too much from is movie and I was very pleasantly surprised. It had the right amount of crude humor and some parts tha made you laugh out loud. Both actors were great in their roles even if the plot was a little unbelievable.
- DirectorJay DuplassMark DuplassStarsJason SegelEd HelmsJudy GreerDispatched from his basement room on an errand for his widowed mother, slacker Jeff might discover his destiny (finally) when he spends the day with his unhappily married brother as he tracks his possibly adulterous wife. So, Im not really sure if I was supposed to laugh, or cry, or feel pity for the actors in the movie. I didn't laugh, I didn't cry and the only person I felt pity for was myself because I actually spent 84 minutes watching this dull piece of cinema. The only good thing about this movie is that it was only 84 minutes.
- DirectorFabrizio LaurentiJoe D'AmatoStarsMary SellersJason SaucierBubba ReevesPeople from a small town are attacked by evil radioactive tree roots growing in the forest.Horrible acting completely spoils an otherwise interesting concept. Don't believe that the acting is that bad? Watch 5 minutes of this movie, you'll see what I'm talking about.
- DirectorLew LehmanStarsSammy SnydersJeannie EliasSonja SmitsA solitary and strange preteen boy wreaks revenge on his harassers when he makes a disturbing discovery in the depth of a forest. One of my favorite horror films of the 80's. Creepy boy with a sex crazed Teddy bear and a twist ending....what's not to love?
- DirectorJosh TrankStarsDane DeHaanAlex RussellMichael B. JordanThree high school friends gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery underground. Soon they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides. This movie was a mixed bag for me. The special effects and the camera angles were like nothing I've seen before. My favorite part was watching them play catch in the sky. On the other hand, the plot was not what I was expecting. The lead up was good, but after a cetain point, it was just kinda dumb. Plus, the ending left many unanswered questions and if there is going to be a sequal, I'm not sprinting to the box office to see it.
- DirectorSeth MacFarlaneStarsMark WahlbergMila KunisSeth MacFarlaneJohn Bennett, a man whose childhood wish of bringing his teddy bear to life came true, now must decide between keeping the relationship with the bear, Ted or his girlfriend, Lori.Laugh-out-loud funny is the only way to describe this film. The trailer gave away only a snippit of the funny moments in this movie. Truth be told, I was REALLY excited to see this and it didn't dissappoint me one bit. One of the rare movies that have that honor. If you're a fan of crude humor, then it's a must see. If not, then it should be avoided at all costs.
- DirectorBruce D. ClarkStarsEdward AlbertErin MoranRay WalstonA ragtag spaceship crew sent on a rescue mission encounter a formidable enemy, their worst fears projected by their own imaginations.I heard about this movie after watching the worm rape scene on YouTube. It's your garden variety space horror movie complete with bad acting, lifeless monsters and an ending that left a lot to interpretation...oh yeah and a worm raping a large breasted woman.
- DirectorJennifer WestfeldtStarsJennifer WestfeldtAdam ScottMaya RudolphTwo best friends decide to have a child together while keeping their relationship platonic, so they can avoid the toll kids can take on romantic relationships.I was pleasantly surprised with this film. It has a little bit of everything for both men and women. It has the sappy lovey dovey romantic stuff that my girlfriend loves and the nasty funny humor that I love. And when the last words of the film are "F the S out of me!" you know you've got a gem.
- DirectorRobin HardyStarsEdward WoodwardChristopher LeeDiane CilentoA puritan police sergeant arrives in a Scottish island village in search of a missing girl, who the pagan locals claim never existed.A very strange piece of work depicting a community that has resorted to pagan rituals and sacrifice to enable their crops to grow. It's been done before, but there's is something very erie about this film. You have to see it to understand.
- DirectorTarsem SinghStarsHenry CavillMickey RourkeJohn HurtTheseus is a mortal man chosen by Zeus to lead the fight against the ruthless King Hyperion, who is on a rampage across Greece to obtain a weapon that can destroy humanity.Battle scenes: 10. Plot:2. So I guess it evens out. Very pointless storyline and you barely get a feel for all the characters. But must say, all the fighting scenes are top notch.
- DirectorPeter MarisStarsDeborah RennardGarrick DowhenDaniel RadellEarth has been ravaged by a nuclear war, and a feminist warrior is forced to join up with a soldier of fortune in her journey to find a rumored "paradise" as they battle gangs of rampaging bandits. This movie is like Mad Max for 5 year olds and includes the worst musical score of any movie in history. Why am I overly concerned about the music in in action film? Because after seeing this movie, it's the one thing that I can remember about it. See it and find out for yourself. Actually, don't see it, it's not even worth 2 minutes of your time.
- DirectorJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsWilliam H. MacyFrances McDormandSteve BuscemiMinnesota car salesman Jerry Lundegaard's inept crime falls apart due to his and his henchmen's bungling and the persistent police work of the quite pregnant Marge Gunderson.A very very very dark comedy and brilliantly done. You would expect nothing less from the Cohen brothers. A few memorable scenes notwithstanding, this movie will be remembered for the accents of the actors. Should you see this movie? Yeah, you betcha!
- DirectorDanny BoyleStarsJames FrancoAmber TamblynKate MaraA mountain climber becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive. This movie told a good story. Franco was perfect for this role. There's not too much else going on besides what was going on in his own mind. Some of the images are a little too strange for my liking but overall I enjoyed this movie very much.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.I have to give this movie credit. With all the promotion and anticipation tied into this film, it really did deliver. The action sequences more than made up for its sometimes slow pace. The bat cycle had some cool upgrades, and Hathaway looked incredible in that cat suit. It put a bow on most of the losse ends of the franchise, still, I thought there was something missing.
- DirectorScott KalvertStarsLeonardo DiCaprioLorraine BraccoMarilyn SokolA teenager finds his dreams of becoming a basketball star threatened after he free falls into the harrowing world of drug addiction. One of the most derranged movies that I have ever seen. A real rummage through the life of a gone-over-the-edge teenage junkie, this movie was masterful in it's direction and insight. This film (as well as Winky and Blinky) will always have a special place in my heart.
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsWill FerrellChristina ApplegateSteve CarellIn the 1970s, an anchorman's stint as San Diego's top-rated newsreader is challenged when an ambitious newswoman becomes his co-anchor.The first time I saw this, I absolutely HATED IT. It's one of those movies that you have to watch multiple times before you "get it". But I think the real reason that I didnt like it the first time is because I saw it on a blind date with a very attractive girl and when she wasnt laughing, I guess I wrote it off a being bad. Ahhhhh the things "24 year old" me would do for love.....or sex.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKurt RussellWilford BrimleyKeith DavidA research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims. This movie exceeded my expectations. I wasn't really sure what to expect but was presently surprised. My only problem with the movie was that it just kind of ended.
- DirectorFreddie FrancisStarsJack HawkinsDonald PleasenceGeorgia BrownA psychiatrist tells stories of four special cases to a colleague.Nothing special at all here. Moving on...
- DirectorHarvey GlazerStarsJason MewesErica CoxRichard FitzpatrickA lovelorn paramedic rescues a woman left for dead after a deadly assault. When she refuses to go to the hospital, he takes her in, nurses her back to health and soon falls in love with her. Before long the mysterious woman suffers withdrawal symptoms, leaving the paramedic to believe his newfound love is a drug addict. Coming home to find a blood-drained corpse on his floor, he learns she does indeed have an addiction problem but it's not to drugs...This is one of the worst movies ever. But, so far it's my favorite worst movie ever.
- DirectorJay RoachStarsWill FerrellZach GalifianakisJason SudeikisAn incumbent Representative embroiled in personal scandal faces a no-holds-barred challenge from a naive newcomer funded by two unscrupulous billionaire lobbyist brothers.I wasnt sure what to expect from this movie. I was hoping that it would be more like Anchorman than Dinner For Schmucks. This movie landed somewhere in the middle. It had genuine laugh-out-laud moments but also dragged at times. A good movie to rent or see when it comes out on cable.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsDonald PleasenceLisa BlountJameson ParkerA group of graduate students and scientists uncover an ancient canister in an abandoned church, but when they open the container, they inadvertently unleash a strange liquid and an evil force on all humanity. Was I the only one on here to find his movie truly disturbing? The dream sequences that are supposedly from the future are so well done, they totally creeped me out. One of the mainstays in Carpenter's movies is the fact that his characters can scare you with just a blank stare and some eerie music.
- DirectorAnne FletcherStarsChanning TatumJenna DewanDamaine RadcliffTyler Gage receives the opportunity of a lifetime after vandalizing a performing arts school, gaining him the chance to earn a scholarship and dance with an up and coming dancer, Nora. For a guy with my tastes, this movie was pure torture. The only reason that I didn't give this a 1 is because the movie gets a bonus point for having Channing Tatum keep his shirt on the entire movie.
- DirectorGreg MottolaStarsJesse EisenbergKristen StewartRyan ReynoldsIn the summer of 1987, a college graduate takes a 'nowhere' job at his local amusement park, only to find it's the perfect course to get him prepared for the real world. One of the few movies that so many people wanted to see, but so few did. The ones that did were treated to something special. The subtle comedy mixed in the awkwardness of being a teenager is portrayed perfectly on screen as all the actors give great performances.
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsJason BegheJohn PankowKate McNeilA quadriplegic man has a trained monkey help him with his paralysis, until the little monkey begins to develop feelings, and rage, against its new master. The trailer TOTALLY freaked me out and really got me excited to see this film. After about 20 minutes in, I realized that this film was much deeper than the trailer made it out to be. Since I was in the mood to be scared, I wasn't really looking for depth. This is more of a suspense thriller than horror movie, but I enjoyed it and you will too, just don't see the trailer first.
- DirectorTom RopelewskiStarsRichard AlexanderKirstie AlleyJohn LarroquetteThe luxurious villa of yuppie couple Mark and Jessie Bannister is overrun by loads of uninvited guests who turn the house upside-down and nearly destroy it.A cute PG comedy that doesn't take itself soo seriously. It's a nice movie to watch with your kids. And I must admit, Kirstie Alley actually looks somewhat sexy in a few scenes. Yes, you read that right.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsChristopher ReeveKirstie AlleyLinda KozlowskiA small town's women give birth to unfriendly alien children posing as humans.I liked this movie more the second time that I saw it. Another one of those non scary horror movies. An interesting story, but has some serious plot holes. Everyone just seems a little too content with the fact that people around them are being murdered.
- DirectorDavid S. WardStarsTom BerengerCharlie SheenCorbin BernsenThe new owner of the Cleveland Indians puts together a purposely horrible team so they'll lose and she can move the team. But when the plot is uncovered, they start winning just to spite her. This is one of my all time favorite movies. I remember seeing the trailer and wanted to see it but my parents wouldn't let me because it was rated R. I thought " that's so stupid that a baseball movie is rated R". But this movie needed to be rated R. A PG version of this would really suck....see Major League 2.
- DirectorWilliam CastleStarsVincent PriceCarol OhmartRichard LongA millionaire offers $10,000 to five people who agree to be locked in a large, spooky, rented house overnight with him and his wife.I can see why this movie scared the *beep* out of people back in the day. An erie mood is perfectly set right from the beginning, making the viewer a little uncomfortable. The special effects arent anything special, especially compared to present day, but they work with the setting very well. The ending could have been a little better though.
- DirectorRalph S. SingletonStarsDavid AndrewsKelly WolfStephen MachtIn a very old textile mill with a serious rat infestation, deadly accidents start happening, but the corrupt foreman continues to put his workers in danger, until they discover a horrifying secret deep in the basement.I'm a huge Stephen King fan and I usually enjoy his movie adaptations. This one however, I could have done without. Dont let the name and the skeleton on the box fool you. It's mostly about a giant rat with wings.....yep.
- DirectorSimon WestStarsSylvester StalloneLiam HemsworthRandy CoutureMr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat. No one would ever mistake this movie for a technical masterpiece. The writing is horrific and filled with countless clichés from past movies and it is a vey predictable film. But the enjoyment factor is off the charts as I was entertained from start to finish.
- DirectorBernard RoseStarsVirginia MadsenXander BerkeleyTony ToddThe Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster's myth.I was terrified to see this movie as a child, but Ive always been a fan of urban legends so I saw this when I was 13 and it scared me so much I couldnt finish it. After watching the entire movie a few times, it still remains one of my favorites thanks so some creepy scares and great storytelling.
- DirectorColin MinihanStuart OrtizThe Vicious BrothersStarsBenjamin WilkinsonSean RogersonAshleigh GryzkoFor their ghost hunting reality show, a production crew locks themselves inside an abandoned mental hospital that's supposedly haunted - and it might prove to be all too true. This movie has a quality that few can attain. Although the scares are predictable, they still scare the hell out of you. Every time I thought to myself "ok here it comes" and still jumped out of my seat. The visuals and the setting combined for a great thrill ride. I just wish that it didn't take so much time to get going.
- DirectorDrew GoddardStarsKristen ConnollyChris HemsworthAnna HutchisonFive college friends head out to a remote cabin for a getaway, but things don't go as planned when they start getting killed. They soon discover that there is more to the cabin than it seems. This is one finest thrillers that I have seen in a long time. It was very well though out and well executed. All that aside, I thought they really missed an opportunity here. They should have made this a straight horror film because this is the PERFECT film to turn into sequels. They had TON of good ideas for killers and should have kept it going.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsDaniel CraigHarrison FordOlivia WildeA spaceship arrives in 1873 Arizona to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. All that stands in their way: a posse of cowboys and natives. This movie was absolute garbage. Who would have thought that Ford and Craig would combine to make this bad of a film. The suspension of belief was waaaaaay more that I could tolerate. Half way through this, I honestly had no desire to see how this movie ended.
- DirectorJoe SmalleyTess SmalleyStarsJosh FolanChris PerryNatalie WettaFocuses on two television crews of paranormal experts: one team of skeptics looking to de-bunk myths about ghosts and another consisting of believers looking to prove their existence. Teaming up for the first time for a special episode, the crews get more than they bargained for when they actually make contact with a spirit of tremendous power and must band together to stop it before it destroys them all.Just your basic garden variety "found footage" horror movie, complete with horrible acting and awful special effects (especially the gateway guardian). Besides one good scare by the resident nurse, this isn't even worth a rental.
- DirectorJean-Claude Van DammeStarsJean-Claude Van DammeRoger MooreJames RemarA group of gentlemen of fortune visits a legendary "Lost City", located in Tibet. They plan to steal a priceless statue "Golden Dragon" during the martial arts tournament.Ok, take Bloodsport minus the acting, good fight scenes, and understandable story lines, add a clown on stilts, orphaned children and James Remar and you have this awful film. Need I say more?
- DirectorJohn FortenberryStarsChris KattanWill FerrellRaquel GardnerTwo dim-witted brothers dream of owning their own dance club or at least getting into the coolest and most exclusive club in town, The Roxbury. The first of Will Farrell's many great roles. Katan, as well as a few of the SNL regulars at the time, hold up their end as well. Is this One of the better adaptations to film that SNL ever had? No.....Yes!
- DirectorAna ClavellJames Glenn DudelsonStarsStephanie PetteeRoy AbramsohnSusan SchrammThis second sequel to Creepshow (1982) features five new tales of horror: "Alice", "The Radio", "Call Girl", "The Professor's Wife", and "Haunted Dog".I had pretty low expectations of this movie coming, but even then I was extremely disappointed. None of the segments were even remotely scary (even with an apperarence by Baraka). The gore, which I figured would be the films saving grace, was cheap and not effective.
- DirectorChris KentisLaura LauStarsElizabeth OlsenAdam TreseEric Sheffer StevensA girl is trapped inside her family's lakeside retreat and becomes unable to contact the outside world as supernatural forces haunt the house with mysterious energy and consequences. This movie started out terrific. The mood, the blackness, constant silence just made you think that something was going to pop out at any moment. Then....it didnt. Then....it got confusing. Then....it was about child molestation. Then....I was happy it was over.
- DirectorDonald PetrieStarsGene HackmanRay RomanoMaura TierneyA US president who has retired after two terms in office returns to his hometown of Mooseport, Maine and decides to run for Mayor against another local candidate. On the surface, this looks like your garden variety comedy where the small town man goes up against a well known figure in some kind of contest.....and that's exactly what it was. However, it was very well done with decent laughs and a somewhat interesting storyline. Romano was his cheesy self, but it plays well here.
- DirectorJack ArnoldStarsRichard CarlsonJulie AdamsRichard DenningA strange prehistoric beast lurks in the depths of the Amazonian jungle. A group of scientists try to capture the animal and bring it back to civilization for study.Today was my first viewing of this classic movie, and I now know why it is considered so. Good story telling, acting and complete lack of special effects which made it even more amazing. The "Gill Man" had to hold his breath for 4 minutes at a time. That's a pretty long time.
- DirectorWilliam Brent BellStarsFernanda AndradeSimon QuartermanEvan HelmuthIn Italy, a woman becomes involved in a series of unauthorized exorcisms during her mission to discover what happened to her mother, who allegedly murdered three people during her own exorcism. This movie was a piece of garbage. It wasn't scary at all and the plot lines were a little too far out there. Tie that altogether with one of the worst endings in horror movie history and you have a movie that is completely and utterly unwatchable.
- DirectorGeorge VanBuskirkStarsDana DelanyAndrew McCarthyCaroline LondonEvil invades a children's spiritual retreat.Ok, I really didn't get this movie. Not that I think that there was so much to get, but whatever it was I didn't get it. 2 extra stars for the scene in the woods, that cute girl fakes it like a champ!
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsAmber HeardMamie GummerDanielle PanabakerAn institutionalized young woman becomes terrorized by a ghost.I might be going against the grain here, but I liked this film. It had a little bit more to it than the run-of-the-mill asylum horror flick. More interesting than creepy, plus Amber Heard is super hot!
- DirectorJean-Paul OuelletteStarsCharles KlausmeyerMark Kinsey StephensonAlexandra DurrellCollege students check out a haunted house where in the 1800's an ugly monster called "the Unnamable" was trapped in a vault.Similar to most of his other films, H.P. Lovecraft tries to tell a simple story, but goes a little too far in the details that he misses the obvious things that makes horror movies great. It does have a humorous campy feel though, so that's a positive. I'll tell you this, one thing Lovecraft does extremely well....he makes a good monster.
- DirectorHenry JoostAriel SchulmanStarsChloe CsengeryJessica Tyler BrownChristopher Nicholas SmithIn 1988, young sisters Katie and Kristi befriend an invisible entity called Toby, who resides in their home.So now we get the third installment of this series.....Yippie!!!!! But seriously, I thought this one was the best of the bunch so far. I wasn't scared all that much ( the first two I wasn't scared at all ) but I was legitimately freaked out when the guy looks outside and sees the old women slowing walking towards him. THAT WAS CREEPY!!!!!
- DirectorNicholas StollerStarsJason SegelEmily BluntChris PrattOne year after meeting, Tom proposes to his girlfriend, Violet, but unexpected events keep tripping them up as they look to walk down the aisle together. This movie was just waaaaaaay too long. It should have ended after an hour and 15 minutes but instead web on for an additional hour. There were some funny moments, but just way too long.
- DirectorHans HornStarsSusan May PrattRichard Speight Jr.Niklaus LangeWhen a group of friends fail to lower the ladder of their boat, they find themselves stranded in the surrounding waters and struggle to survive. This was definitely better than the first one. At least they got into their predicament early and spent the majority of the movie trying to find a way out of it. Could have done with more female nudity and less male nudity.
- DirectorEli RothStarsJordan LaddRider StrongJames DeBelloFive college graduates rent a cabin in the woods and begin to fall victim to a horrifying flesh-eating virus, which attracts the unwanted attention of the homicidal locals.I'm not really sure why, but I really like this movie. Could it be the gory makeup? The spooky plot? Jordan Ladd in a black bikini? Either way, it's one of the better teen horror movies that was put out in the early 2000's.
- DirectorJames WhaleStarsColin CliveMae ClarkeBoris KarloffDr Henry Frankenstein is obsessed with assembling a living being from parts of several exhumed corpses. This cinema classic does not dissappoint. Considered tame by today's standards, it still holds its place in movie history. Karloff was incredible as the monster. His performance made up for the lack of technical effects and modern day scare tactics.
- DirectorJames WhaleStarsBoris KarloffElsa LanchesterColin CliveMary Shelley reveals the main characters of her novel survived: Baron Henry Frankenstein, goaded by an even madder scientist, builds his monster a mate.Despite being on the screen for less than 5 minutes, the bride has a place in movie history as one of the all time movie monsters. This had a little more depth to it than the first film and despite being a serious horror movie, it made me chuckle a few times.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsSigourney WeaverTom SkerrittJohn HurtThe crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin. The thing that I will take away from this movie is that it makes me fall asleep. I've tried to watch this movie on 4 different occasions and EVERY time I have dozed off. Great movie though, but loses points with me since it cures my insomnia.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsBill PullmanPatricia ArquetteJohn RoseliusAnonymous videotapes presage a musician's murder conviction, and a gangster's girlfriend leads a mechanic astray. This is one of those movies that you have to watch more than once, preferably more than 5 times. A confusing joyride mixed with action, drama, sex, and confusion. And Robert Blake scared the hell out of me. The Mystery Man is one of my all time favorite characters.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsRobert Downey Jr.Jude LawJared HarrisDetective Sherlock Holmes is on the trail of criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty, who is carrying out a string of random crimes across Europe.I was really hesitant to see this, and after watching it, I'm very disappointed in myself. This movie had me going right from the beginning and did not stop until the end credits. A few things went unexplained and one character was killed off too early but besides that, a great film.
- DirectorCarter SmithStarsShawn AshmoreJena MaloneJonathan TuckerA leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when a group of friends and a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins.A lot of hype, a lot of disappointment. The actors tried as hard as they could, but they just weren't convincing including Jena Malone. This film is a victim of bad casting and a horrible antagonist. Killer plants were done much better in many other movies.
- DirectorDarren Lynn BousmanStarsSean Patrick FlaneryBriana EviganJessica LowndesLost souls enter The Devil's Carnival, where they're each faced with the sins they committed during life. This is without a doubt one of the worst (if not THE worst) movies that I have ever seen. This brings horror to a new low. I can't even write any more about this piece of trash, it's making my blood boil.
- DirectorJohn Stalberg Jr.StarsMatt BushSean MarquetteAdrien BrodyA high school valedictorian who gets baked with the local stoner finds himself the subject of a drug test. The situation causes him to concoct an ambitious plan to get his entire graduating class to face the same fate, and fail.Surprisingly, this was a selection by my future brother in law. Most stoner comedies give you the same dribble every time, but this had an interesting plot twist. It's not up to the level of half baked, but it's definitely not a buzz kill.....see what I did there. (Cue Curley laughter)
- DirectorJames CameronStarsSigourney WeaverMichael BiehnCarrie HennDecades after surviving the Nostromo incident, Ellen Ripley is sent out to re-establish contact with a terraforming colony but finds herself battling the Alien Queen and her offspring.Aliens easily tops the original with a more fast paced plot filled with action. Weaver delivers her best performance here and co star Bill Paxton adds a little humor to an otherwise tense movie. This movie also stars Lt Coffey from The Abyss!!!!!! One of my all time favorite actors. What ever happened to him?
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsSigourney WeaverCharles S. DuttonCharles DanceReturning from LV-426, Ellen Ripley crash-lands on the maximum-security prison Fiorina 161, where she discovers that she has unwittingly brought along an unwelcome visitor.A lot of people didn't like this as much as the first two, but I disagree. I felt it was on par with the first two and to be honest, I think Weaver looks hotter with the shaved hair.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsNoomi RapaceLogan Marshall-GreenMichael FassbenderFollowing clues to the origin of mankind, a team finds a structure on a distant moon, but they soon realize they are not alone. The only good thing about this movie was the automated surgery machine. That was pretty cool. Everything else, I just didn't care for. It lacked action, something that the Alien franchise has done very well.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsBruce CampbellEllen SandweissRichard DeManincorFive friends travel to a cabin in the woods, where they unknowingly release flesh-possessing demons. The reason that I like this movie so much is because the filmmakers knew exactly what they wanted it to be and shot it that way. It was scary when it should have been scary, it was campy when it should have been campy. It didn't take itself too seriously but it still horrified and gorified all at the right moments.
- DirectorWes CravenStarsMax ThieriotJohn MagaroDenzel WhitakerA serial killer returns to his hometown to stalk seven children who share the same birthday as the date he was allegedly put to rest.Great premise, terrible script. I had a hard time suspending belief that normal teenagers would act like this. This movie had great potential and a great plot but the killer should have got to the script writer before he got to any of the kids.
- DirectorRichard W. HainesLloyd KaufmanStarsJanelle BradyGil BrentonRobert PrichardThe pupils at a high school next to a nuclear power plant start acting and looking strange after buying contaminated drugs from a plant worker.Ive always been intrigued by this movie, even when i was a kid. Exactly what you would expect from a Troma flick. Fairly interesting story, plenty of gore and boobies, and an intended campy feel. A moderately fun hour and a half, that's it...nothing special.
