Slow paced with little dialogue but beautiful cinematography and a wonderful film.
- DirectorJay DuplassMark DuplassStarsMark DuplassKatie AseltonRhett WilkinsJosh Sagers drives cross-country on a mission to deliver his father's birthday gift - a giant purple LazyBoy.Probably the best Duplass brothers film. Essentially a road trip movie with a difference. Comedy, romance, sadness - it's all there.

Their ensuing adventure changes both their lives forever.Based on a script written by Jacques Tati in 1956, the story of a platonic relationship between an old and failing magician and a young girl. Beautiful, wordless storytelling at it's best.
- DirectorAaron KatzStarsErin FisherCris LankenauSarah HellmanJamie is 21. She's from Atlanta. She's come to Brooklyn to visit her friend Samantha, but she can't find her. Jamie meets a stranger named Charlie on the subway and spends 24 hours hanging out with him.A great, realistic take on the one day together in a city story, that's become familiar over the years.
- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsEthan HawkeTrevor Jack BrooksLorelei LinklaterA man shuffles through a dream meeting various people and discussing the meanings and purposes of the universe.Probably one of the strangest films you will ever watch in your lifetime, and also one of the best examinations of dreaming ever put on film.
Worthwhile viewing if you like a film to make you think, (and also to give you incredibly strange and vivid dreams). - DirectorJuan José CampanellaStarsRicardo DarínSoledad VillamilPablo RagoA retired legal counselor writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior - both of which still haunt him decades later. This Oscar winning Argentinian crime film should have been seen by many more people in this country (UK) than it has been, and thus it makes the list.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsJeremy TheobaldAlex HawLucy RussellA young writer who follows strangers for material meets a thief who takes him under his wing.Christopher Nolan's debut film has been missed by many but is brilliant and full of the twists and turns the director has become known for.
- DirectorCraig GillespieStarsRyan GoslingEmily MortimerPaul SchneiderA delusional young man strikes up an unconventional relationship with a doll he finds on the Internet.Okay, so a lot of people have heard of the film. Not many have actually seen it though. It's a brilliant look at a troubled soul without ever making fun or joking at his expense as you might expect given the premise.
- DirectorChris JaymesStarsJeremy SistoChris JaymesMatt KeeslarThe youngest son of a legendary Hollywood producer, a Robert Evans type, accepts a bribe from his father to document his death.Brilliant film, filled with dark humour and watch out for Jeremy Sisto's brilliant performance!

At just over an hour long, it's filled with great performances and doesn't need to last any longer.
- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsRichard LinklaterRudy BasquezJean CaffeineA day in the life of Austin, Texas as the camera roams from place to place and provides a brief look at the overeducated, the social misfits, the outcasts and the oddballs.Richard Linklater's film Slacker basically kick started the whole independent movement and has been recognised by Kevin Smith as the inspiration behind 'Clerks'.

Only watch if you are prepared for some extremely tough viewing.
- DirectorAndrea ArnoldStarsKate DickieTony CurranMartin CompstonJackie works as a CCTV operator. Each day she watches over a small part of the world, protecting the people living their lives under her gaze. One day a man appears on her monitor, a man she thought she would never see again, a man she never wanted to see again. Now she has no choice, she is compelled to confront him.A brilliant film, set in Glasgow. Again, it is very dark and tough viewing, but worth watching, and a great look at the modern day CCTV society.
- DirectorHal HabermanJeremy PassmoreStarsMichael RapaportPaul BlackthorneJosh PeckA lonely comic book fan, Les Franken, has a reaction to medication and becomes convinced he's a superhero.A man takes a new drug, and becomes convinced he has super powers. Made on a micro budget, and this occasionally shows, however the performances and heart of the film more than make up for this.
- DirectorTom McCarthyStarsRichard JenkinsHaaz SleimanDanai GuriraA college professor travels to New York City to attend a conference and finds a young couple living in his apartment. One of the more well known films on the list, but as I don't know anyone who has seen it, it gets included. Watch out for an astounding performance by Six Feet Under's Richard Jenkins.

- DirectorMark WexlerStarsHaskell WexlerMark WexlerBilly CrystalThe son of acclaimed cinematographer Haskell Wexler confronts his complex father by turning the camera on him. What results is a portrait of a difficult genius and a son's path out of the shadow of a famous father. One of the best documentaries ever made in my opinion. Not only does it tell the story of famous cinematographer Haskell Wexler, but it also a brilliant study of the relationship between a father and son, especially through difficult times.
- DirectorAndrew BujalskiStarsKate DollenmayerMark HerlehyChristian RudderMarnie just graduated from college, drinks likes she's still in school, and is looking for a temporary job but a permanent boyfriend. She loves a guy who doesn't love her (?), ping-pongs between awkward romantic alternatives and even less suitable jobs.Another Andrew Bujalski film, although not as good as Mutual Appreciation, it's still a great watch.
- DirectorJohn CarneyStarsGlen HansardMarkéta IrglováHugh WalshA modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story.Okay so quite a lot of people might have seen this, but not enough.
