- The official count - 50th festival in 2003 - has the festival started in 1954. For its first six years it was part of the Pula Film Festival of Yugoslavian Films, then in 1960 split off and is since located in Belgrade. The festival features a national competition since its beginnings, an international competition has been added in 2004.
