- Ellie Stocker and Gedeon Winter have become bitter enemies. A ritual murder leads to the formation of a German-Austrian Soko and forces the two opponents to investigate together.
- In the last days of World War II, Gauleiter Eigruber ordered the blasting of the salt mine. Stolen art treasures are stored there. The villagers oppose it.
- Paula Dennstein and Therese Schwarz want to get off to a flying start with their newly opened law firm. Unfortunately, their first joint case does not promise a fee. The lawyers work "pro bono" for him and his two children - each in their own way. During her research, the well-connected Paula comes across fraudulent practices by the construction company and its agent Tino Matt. The fact that she violates legal rules causes trouble with her extremely correct partner Therese. A conflict also threatens the two of them at another point: Without knowing it, Therese got involved in an affair with her legal opponent in Paula's divorce from Felix Dennstein. The charming but tough Thomas Lange should ensure that Paula gets as little as possible despite legitimate claims.
- Johannes Hogebrink is an artist with a dream: inspired by Laika and Otto Lilienthal, he wants to teach his dog how to fly. Making a movie about it should provide for his daughter and his Russian girlfriend. But his dog Chayka is afraid of heights. Chayka tells his own story of survival on the streets of Bosnia. Hoping Chayka can become the dog that can make his dream come true, Johannes decides the best way to help him overcome his trauma, is to go flying. Johannes designs and builds a hang-glider for Chayka. As the training progresses they move to the mountains of Austria. Between the Alps Johannes's obsession intensifies. Repeated crashes are raising doubts. A paranormal dog whisperer tells Johannes about Chayka's fears. But Johannes can't give up on his dream. His love life depends on it. When a journalist comes to film Chayka's first flight, they have to hurry. But Chayka has had enough and takes off. A feverish search for Chayka follows. Johannes finds him tired and alone, but he doesn't hesitate to strap him into his wing. A gentle push is all it takes to make his dream succeed. But in front of the rolling cameras, Chayka makes a terrible crash... "Cut!" That should be done again. The film crew repeats the crash, with Chayka watching from a safe distance. "I thought you were making a documentary?" the movie producer asks. Johannes has some explaining to do. While Chayka's flight training continues, Johannes's dream project is raising more doubts. When finally even the producers forbid Johannes to continue, he has only one option left.

For Paula, however, the innocence of her longtime boyfriend, whose wife Sylvia stands behind him, is beyond question. She hands over the delicate mandate to her law firm partner Therese, but in her unconventional way helps to find out where the anonymous accusations come from. The two lawyers soon encountered a conflict with one of Wagner's former employees, which was apparently swept under the carpet. In order to break Sandra Dorner's persistent silence, Therese brings out the heavy legal artillery. But she doesn't feel very comfortable with it. Because: What if the allegations against Wagner are correct? Meanwhile, Paula is taking care of Therese's younger sister Marita Schwarz's drug offenses - again "pro bono" of course, because her son Ferdinand is not uninvolved. He took the 15-year-old to a party with joints - and she of all people was caught. Now Paula has to avert a punishment for Marita.

Through the cult leader, Ellie and Gedeon manage to contact the perpetrator via the internet. This achievement, however, can't stop the murder of a YouTube starlet on a lake near Salzburg.
- In a joint effort with cultist Brunner, Ellie and Gedeon try to set a trap for the killer. For this plan to work, they have to overstep legal boundaries. Trying to gain the trust of the killer, they feign a copycat murder, hoping their target would be lured into reaching out to Brunner. Meanwhile, Ellie has started an affair with her superior, whereas Gedeon has been haunted by his shady past as a corrupt narcotics cop.
- The demanding investigation has affected Ellie in a major way. The German policewoman and the Austrian cop bicker and fight constantly. While her positive life views get dulled and stunted, Gedeon's initial indifference changes into an obsession for cracking the case. After one lead brings them to yet another dead end, they have to start again from the top. They dive into case files of unsolved murders over the past years, hoping to find any trace of the serial killer.
- A fierce detonation blows up a fashion outlet mall in Salzburg. Despite Ellie and Gedeon trying to evacuate the building in time, a child is fatally wounded in the explosion. The deadly assault riles up the general public, whereas politicians and the media demand fast results from the police. In Austria, Gedeon has to fight to stay on the case. In Germany, Ellie loses trust in her superiors more and more. After the Krampus Killer has leaked details of her affair with her boss to the press, her life collapses.
- The international press conference on the bomb attack is interrupted when a man wearing a Krampus mask is shot during a gunfight with the police.

They find out that the Macedonian victim, Malica, has been reported missing back home.
