- Two casual acquaintances, Sergey Pshenichnyy and Andrey Nemchinov, are transferred almost 40 years ago by the will of mysterious circumstances. This day - May 8, 1949 - begins to repeat itself for them with inexorable constancy.

- 1927. A retired Red Army commander Constantine Vorontsov is appointed a Criminal Investigation Department head in a principal city of province. - A regular military call-up. One of them, a former taxi-driver Leonid (A.Kuznetsov) went to earn lots of money, Rimma (A.Zavialova) from the undivided love, the yesterdays schoolboy Constantine to find romantic appeal and adventures, and Vladimir (N.Dovzhenko) attempting to escape his shadowy past. Far away from the city fuss, in severe labor conditions and unsettled way of life, relations of these absolutely unknown to each other people gradually resume the normal course. Here many of them experience revaluation of values, others even find their love.
- A young 19-year old girl Anastasia (O.Bobyleva) comes to a big Siberian construction site. She dreams of being a welder, but at the moment there are no vacancies, and she has to begin her labor activity in a canteen. And after a local kinder garden is left without a mentor, nobody can fancy a better candidate that Nastya. She loves kids, and the main thing is that the feeling is mutual. Once during a storm an accident happens a motor-launch, carrying workers across a river, crashes. Three children become orphans. Nastya doesnt let the construction head send them to the orphanage and decides to adopt them.

- The 22nd of June, 1941. A usual morning in a usual children camp near the very frontier. Accidentally the survived tankman meets Michael, a boy who was ordered by Germans to burn pioneer neckties. He asks uncle Vasia to help him rescue children from captivity. The tankman agrees. The rescue of young pioneers operation starts on the only one tank with one little assistant.
