- Holocaust survivors share their story of fleeing to the United States, joining the US Army, training in Military Intelligence, and returning to Europe to end Nazism by using their linguistic abilities.
- When beloved Chicago movie cameraman Allen Ross' personality dramatically changed and he mysteriously disappeared, his many filmmaking friends refused to give up on finding him. Their 4 year cross-country search and the hideous conspiracy they uncovered was made into this deeply personal documentary by his German friend and colleague Christian Bauer. Ross was a co-founder of Chicago Filmmakers.
- "Die Slocum brennt!" ("THE SLOCUM IS ON FIRE!") is a documentary for television about the terrible, yet largely forgotten, fire desaster of the Steamboat "General Slocum" in which nearly 1100 people died within sight of New York City in 1904. The victims were mainly German immigrants celebrating their annual Sunday School outing. I found it very moving to explore into the biographies of these people who had come to America with great hopes and had begun to establish themselves as grocers, workmen, maids, tailors, mechanics etc. and had carved a little slice of the Big American Dream for themselves when disaster struck out of the blue.
- Observations in the director's home village, Wildenranna in the Bavarian Forest, whose inhabitants have settled into their traditions
- The grandson of the writer and Nobel Prize winner Ernest Hemingway, who took his own life on July 2, 1961, wants to explore the life and death of his grandfather
- For a year, the film accompanies some members of the Regensburger Domspatzen, the famous boys' choir.
- "Polizisten" ("Police")is a long documentary about cops in Germany. I had decided it was time to let them talk about their situation instead of reiterating all that has been said by others about them. The film portraits nine men and women of different branches from border guards to a detective of the homicide dept. I wanted to find out how they cope with the great expectations, the responsibility, fears, wearing a uniform and a carrying a gun, with having to do society's dirty work, with the power they're entrusted with and with the mechanisms of alienation.
- Documentary film about the Munich district of Ludwigvorstadt in the immediate vicinity of the Munich main train station, which is also called "Little Istanbul" because this is where you encounter the Orient.
