How Things Used to Be Assuming you’re not too young, you probably remember what life was like before the age of high-speed and high-quality video streaming; it was a dark, primitive period in human history. Of course, given my age, some of my fondest childhood memories leading up to high school are inextricably connected with watching movies on pieces of physical media, be they VHS tapes or scratched-up DVDs. My parents sometimes bought copies for our living room setup, but more often than not we would rent movies from our local Blockbuster. It’s important to remember that before the chain eroded completely in 2014, Blockbuster was the video rental place, and indeed my first encounters with more niche cinema came from roaming the aisles of that bygone store. I specifically remember my mother renting a copy of the Oscar-winning German film ‘The Lives of Others,’ when that movie’s...

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, the spinoff of the recently concluded Young Sheldon, which was a spinoff of The Big Bang Theory, is an opportunity for producers to tell new stories involving Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and his wife Mandy (Emily Osment), the older brother and sister-in-law of Sheldon Cooper now that his tales have been chronicled. TV Insider caught up with executive producer/head writer Steve Holland, Jordan, and Osment on the Paramount lot at a press event to kick off the new Fall TV season to preview the CBS sitcom, which will appear both familiar and new to viewers. “There wasn’t a grand plan behind it,” Holland tells us about why the characters of Georgie and Mandy were chosen to be spun off from Young Sheldon. He says the idea came about after the producers, including series creator Chuck Lorre, watched the two actors and saw their delightful chemistry.

Modern procedurals are moving more and more towards realism. If fifteen years ago even viewers could understand that the scenes shown to them looked completely unrealistic and unreliable, in today's projects the discrepancy with reality is often noticed only by the professionals themselves.
The creators of series about paramedics and police officers invite special consultants to the set, such as retired police officers, who regulate the actions of the characters so that they look as realistic as possible.
However, no matter how much the level of authenticity has increased in recent years, the procedural TV shows still cannot be considered completely reliable.
Chicago Fire Focuses Heavily on Personal Stories of First Responders
Chicago Fire is not just about firefighters and paramedics, it is about the entire flawed system of the Chicago Fire Department. Bureaucracy, waste of budget, deception of taxpayers, conflicts with superiors and everything that gets in the way of saving lives.

From the beginning of Deal or No Deal Island, Stephanie Mitchell found herself playing defense. Early on in the inaugural season, she was targeted as a potential eliminee by some powerful people, but thanks to her signature “determination” (and a well-timed alliance with the so-called “Night Owls”), she managed to make it all the way to the end. She might’ve even gotten to the final two if she’d have just selected a case that was higher than Amy McCoy’s. So how would she have fared in that final excursion with Jordan Fowler? And was she really trying to help her beat the banker (Howie Mandel) in the final temple? Plus, do the cast members have plans to get back together anytime soon? TV Insider caught up with Mitchell to get all the scoop. You were pretty much the only person that was eliminated purely by luck. How did you feel about that?...

Marvel Studios has a history of hiring some of the most talented directors in the film industry. From the Russo Brothers and James Gunn to Taika Watiti, James Mangold, and even Sam Raimi, their lineup is certainly impressive. As has been the case in The Equalizer from the beginning, what Robyn (Queen Latifah) does and keeping that secret affects not just her, but those around her. And sure, Vi (Lorraine Toussaint) and Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes) know, but Vi’s girlfriend, Trish (Gloria Rueben), remains in the dark—and that’s a source of conflict in that relationship right now. But given the scope of what Robyn does as she helps people using her skills as a former CIA operative, and that that’s something that she would then have to keep secret, there is the question of whether Trish would want to know. When TV Insider asked Gloria Reuben just that question, she confirmed she would. “I think honesty is key, and I think that she feels that way for sure. If secrets need to be kept in order to protect or honor certain parameters of someone’s extended family,...

Last year’s strikes can take credit for some of this nostalgia: With distributors forced to delay films, theaters are desperate for product. However, desperation is not the only mother of this invention. A24, Neon, and other specialty distributors are treating re-releases as a way to reach younger audiences.
Last year, Neon re-released Park Chan-wook’s 2003 film “Oldboy” to $2.1 million worldwide. Back in 2013, David Tennant and the not-yet-a-list Olivia Colman broke our brains with the first season of Broadchurch, a series written with a self-contained first season but which proved so popular it lasted for three years.
The outstanding first season of Broadchurch centers around the death of a young boy in a small, seemingly idyllic community. The sudden and horrible death of 11-year-old Danny sends his town in a tailspin. The investigation is run by the cheerful Detective Miller (Colman) and her equally dour partner, the recently transferred Detective Alec Hardy (Tennant).
Part of what made Broadchurch so interesting is that it wasn't just about the 'whodunnit' of it all. The series was not only interested in solving the crime, but also in examining the impact of Danny's death, the resulting media attention, and the investigation on a tight-knit community.
Now, fans of Broadchurch are discovering another David Tennant must-watch crime drama.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Manhunt series finale.] The Manhunt series finale depicts one of war secretary Edwin Stanton’s most famous acts. The politician barricaded himself in his office for three months in protest of President Andrew Johnson’s attempt to remove him from office. Johnson became the first American president to be impeached because of this move; just one vote saved him from complete removal. The impeachment took place while Stanton was still a shut-in that office. Barricading himself in the room was the final scene Tobias Menzies filmed for the Apple TV+ limited series, which debuted its finale on Friday, April 19. The Emmy winner tells TV Insider that it was a perfect way to wrap this political dogfight of a tale that tells “such a strange bit of history.” “Those moments, for me, really transport you back to a different time because it feels so analog,” Menzies shares. At 86, Morgan Freeman is still basking in the glory of a breathtaking career that has earned him an Academy Award and a long list of noteworthy flicks. As everyone knows, the Tennessee-born is a legendary actor who has enthralled audiences for decades with electrifying performances and, of course, his distinct voice.
Freeman has gained an indelible place in the hearts of fans with his roles in series such as The Long Way Home & The Electric Company and movies like The Shawshank Redemption. That being said, his seemingly ageless appearance may be even more impressive than his acclaimed roles. For this Oscar-winning actor, it feels almost like time has stopped.

You might wonder, “Does he even age?” if you were to compare pictures of Freeman taken before and after over time. It is truly remarkable how little he appears to have changed over the years.

As if TikTok, Instagram’s Reels, and Snapchat haven’t zapped Gen Z’s attention spans enough, YouTube is now experimenting with a feature that allows users to automatically jump to the best parts of a video.
Our doom-scrolling society is doomed.

With Law & Order: Svu in its 25th season, NBC turned Rockefeller Center into the Olivia Benson Plaza, paying homage to the iconic series for two days, March 14-15. (It’s free and open to the public.) While checking it out, TV Insider caught up with Svu stars Octavio Pisano (Detective Joe Velasco) and Kevin Kane (Detective Terry Bruno) to get a few teases about what’s coming up on the NBC drama. In the March 14 episode, “Probability of Doom,” when a woman turns her husband in for possessing child pornography, the case is complicated by a sudden death. Benson tries to reconnect with a victim she saved. This episode “really affects what we’re working on right now, and it’s pretty exciting,” Kane teases. “This story sticks around a little bit.” Adds Pisano, “It’s been going on. 9-1-1 may be moving networks — and nights! — but does that mean that there will be anything significantly different about the show itself when Season 7 premieres on ABC on March 14? The answer is no — at least, not in terms of the content. It still has the big disasters. In fact, this season kicks off with a three-episode cruise ship emergency, with Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause) at the center of it, (finally) on their honeymoon. It also has intense character stories, and Oliver Stark (who plays Buck) agreed it’ll be fully familiar to fans when TV Insider talked to him about just that. “The day-to-day of the show feels very much the same. I think the only thing that feels different, I would say, is just the level of freshness and excitement and it feeling like the rightful home for it and that being felt in the cast...

For its tribute to the late David McCallum and his character, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, NCIS pulled off quite the surprise: the return of Michael Weatherly as Tony Dinozzo. It was kept under wraps, besides those who needed to know, and the scene allowed for the show to honor Ducky and reunite Tony with close friends Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Dr. Jimmy Palmer. It, of course, included a new nickname for McGee (McHurry). When TV Insider caught up with Murray — lots of fun stuff to come from this chat, but here’s the start! —we asked him about filming that as well as the upcoming Tony and Ziva spinoff with Weatherly and Cote de Pablo. Michael Weatherly just returned for that fantastic tribute to Ducky and David McCallum, and that episode made me cry. It was so good. Sean Murray: That was a really good one. And Dietzen helped pen that one.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made very few trips to the United Kingdom as a couple ever since they relocated to the United States in 2020. The two have attended major events across the pond, but Meghan hasn’t returned to the U.K. since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022.
However, in early 2024, it was announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer and would undergo treatment. Harry hinted that he has plans to return to the U.K., and one PR expert is “certain” that he and Meghan will be making frequent trips.

The Oscar for Best Picture may be the highest honor that a film could earn, but the Academy members who vote on the matter are anything but infallible--in fact, some of them don’t even watch the nominated movies at all. Audiences are often disappointed by the pick for Best Picture, but subjectivity mandates that there will always be some reasonable dissent--that said, this article will look back at some of the most widely agreed upon upsets that warrant a closer inspection.

Stellan Skarsgård is almost unrecognizable in his role as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Dune and its recently release sequel, Dune: Part Two. Skarsgård has undergone an impeccable transformation in the makeup room to turn into the overarching villain of these movies.
The hours spent in makeup is nothing new for the actor as he chose to do the same for his character, Bootstrap Bill Turner, in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Skarsgård’s Dune 2 co-star Austin Butler earlier revealed that he took almost 3 hours to transform into the sociopathic bald villain, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. However, this time appears insignificant compared to Skarsgård’s 6-hour process for Pirates of the Caribbean and 8-hour process for Dune.

Stellan Skarsgård revealed to Business Insider that he spent eight hours in the makeup chair in order to transform into the villainous Baron Vladimir Harkonnen for “Dune: Part Two.” That might seem like an awful experience to some, but for Skarsgård it’s preferred to relying on any kind of VFX for transforming into his characters.
“It was painful, but it was worth it,” Skarsgård said. “We wanted him to be so well defined as an image that he made an imprint on people just by showing up on the screen. And that imprint should last throughout the film without having him show up all the time.”
Per Business Insider: “He recalled a similar instance almost two decades ago when he played the barnacle-covered Bootstrap Bill in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise. When it came time to choose between wearing prosthetics or simply doing his scenes with motion-capture dots on his face,...

Questex is merging its various telecom blogs into a single product that will carry the Fierce Network brand name, the company announced this week.
The plan was announced Monday at the Mobile World Congress (Mwc) in Barcelona, during which executives affirmed the new Fierce Network will include the editorial publications of Fierce Wireless, Fierce Telecom and cloud network-focused Silverlinings.
Fierce Network will expand on those verticals to include coverage of artificial intelligence (AI), fixed and mobile broadband solutions, cloud infrastructure, security, Internet of Things, application modernization and other sectors.
“We’re on the brink of the next great global revolution in the communications industry,” Kevin Gray, the publisher of Questex’s telecom-focused websites, said in a statement. “The industry is converging and the lines of separation between wireless, wire-line, and cloud are ceasing to exist.
