Titus Welliver is an American actor who has explored the stage, television, and film spheres. Perhaps best known for his roles in television series such as Lost, Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, Sons of Anarchy, and Brooklyn South, Welliver has built an illustrious career with over 100 acting credits under his belt. A frequent collaborator of Ben Affleck, he has played supporting roles in the films Gone Baby Gone, Argo, The Town, and Transformers: Age of Extinction. CBS continues to rack up its pilot orders as police procedural East New York becomes the latest drama on the eye network’s 2021-22 development slate. David Milch, the creator of “Deadwood,” revealed his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in an interview published Tuesday.
“As best I understand it, which is minimally, I have a deterioration in the organization of my brain,” Milch told Vulture. “And it’s progressive. And in some ways discouraging. In more than some ways — in every way I can think of.”
Beginning five years ago, people around him noticed instances of “imperfect recall and tardy recall and short temper,” Milch said. “I became more and more of an acquired taste.”
He also struggled with his writing process, which was characterized by “a generalized incertitude and a growing incapacity.” About a year ago, Milch finally underwent a brain scan and received the diagnosis.
Milch created the acclaimed HBO Western series “Deadwood,” which aired from 2004 to 2006. He also wrote “Deadwood: The Movie,” which is a continuation of the original series and will see most of the original cast return,...

Ethel Ayler, whose career spanned prominent Broadway, film and TV roles for five decades, died at age 88 on Nov. 18 in Loma Linda, Calif., according to her family. The cause of death was not given.
Born on May 1, 1930 in Whistler, Alabama, Ayler attended Nashville’s Fisk University as a voice major. But the lure of show business overcame the academic life, and she moved to Chicago to pursue a singing career. Her breakthrough came as a member of a touring company of Porgy and Bess.
Langston Hughes’s musical Simply Heavenly marked Ayler’s Off-Broadway bow in 1957, and she soon moved on to a role as Lena Horne’s understudy in the Broadway play Jamaica. She also worked on other Broadway productions, including The Cool World, Kwamina, Black Picture Show and The First Breeze of Summer.
Ayler was a long-standing member of the Negro Ensemble Company, and appeared with them many times.

Happy Thursday,"Pretty Little Liars" fans. We've got some more pretty interesting and great news for you guys on "The Perfectionists" spin off front. The production team has decided to bring on another female character that will be a recurring role. That means she won't be a season regular, but we'll see her just enough to remember that she even exists. The character we are speaking of will be named Dana. The description for Dana is that she will be the new head of security at Beacon Heights University. She will be determined and perceptive almost to the point of omniscience. After recent events, Dana will keep Alison (Sasha Pieterse), Mona (Janel Parrish) and the Perfectionists on their toes. Wow, her character sounds like she will mean pretty serious business. According the folks over at Deadline.com, the actress who is playing her is someone that most of you guys might actually recognize.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” is the odds-on Emmy favorite to win Best Drama Directing, for the episode “After,” and Best Drama Writing, for the episode “June.” This is not surprising since it won both last year and is the reigning Best Drama Series champ, but looking at recent history, we could be a wee off base here. The last three directing and writing Emmys have gone to the same episode from one show.
In 2015, “Game of Thrones” swept both with “Mother’s Mercy” and repeated the feat in 2016 with “Battle of the Bastards.” “Handmaid’s” took directing and writing last year with its pilot. Note that this trend started the first year of the expanded voting system, which replaced the old one in which select peer group members voted for these categories. Before 2015, the last time drama directing and writing went to the same show with the same episode was 1998 with “NYPD Blue,...

As the creative community tonight mourns the loss of legendary television show creator Steven Bochco, several of the writer/producers who cut their teeth on his shows and went on to great careers reminisced with Deadline on what made him so special. A common theme that explains how one man’s company could generate so many seminal dialogue-driven dramas like Hill Street Blues, La Law and NYPD Blue: Bochco was ferociously protective of the writers who worked for him, and heaven help anyone who violated that.
Ted Mann’s work with Bochco encompassed the early days of the provocative drama series NYPD Blue, as well as Brooklyn South and Civil Wars. Nicholas Wootton and Matt Olmstead came up under Bochco, and together they ran the signature series NYPD Blue after David Milch departed along with Mann and the early core of writers. Finding, building, and sustaining a successful television franchise in today's overcrowded media marketplace is an immense challenge for any network. You might argue that the process is more magic than science. However, over the last several decades HBO has proven itself the industry's bellweather, regularly churning out evergreen properties, such as Game of Thrones, Westworld, Boardwalk Empire, Six Feet Under, The Wire, and The Sopranos.
The key to HBO's repeated successes, according to many of their acting and creative alums, has been a long-standing spirit of auteurism; an esoteric process whereby execs hand over the creative reigns to new and established voices, and then stand back (with fingers crossed and talismans clutched).
Case in point, in 2014 the television landscape was struck by a bolt of lightning; out of nowhere an aspiring screenwriter and college professor, Nic Pizzolatto, burst onto the scene with HBO's True Detective anthology series. The first season of True Detective,...

Titus Welliver isn't the first actor I might have thought of to play Lapd homicide cop Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch, hero of 17 best-selling mystery novels and counting by Michael Connelly (plus multiple appearances in Connelly's "Lincoln Lawyer" series). But that's more because the book series started so long ago, and has allowed Harry to age in real time, so my mental image of him is much older than the "Deadwood" alum. In "Bosch," a new TV series whose first season can be streamed on Amazon Prime starting today, Welliver plays a younger and slightly mellower version of Harry. Connelly and producer Eric Overmyer ("The Wire," "Tremé") adapted the first season from pieces of three different Bosch novels ("The Concrete Blonde," "City of Bones" and "Echo Park"), and tweaks some biographical details. (Over the course of the early books, for instance, Bosch got married, divorced, and had a daughter who's on the...

He and Rebecca Romijn play Sean King and Michelle Maxwell, former Secret Service agents now partnered as private detectives. The characters originated in best sellers by David Baldacci ("Absolute Power"), and they're odd-couple opposites: He's more refined while she's the street-wise one.

"CSI: Miami" star Adam Rodriguez also has come on board the Lionsgate project.
Perry, Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson, Brian White, Hope Olaide Wilson, Kwesi Nii-Lante Boakye and Frederick Siglar also will appear in Perry's adaptation of one of his early plays. Prison Break executive producer/showrunner Matt Olmstead has inked a new two-year overall deal with series producer 20th Century Fox TV.
Under the seven-figure pact, which has an option for a third year, Olmstead will continue at the helm of Fox's Break and develop new projects for the studio.
He is already dabbling in development with Prison Break: Cherry Hill, a potential Prison Break spinoff set at a women's prison, which he is penning with Break co-exec producer Zack Estrin. The project has received a script commitment by Fox.
" 'Prison Break' is an amazing series for the studio, impacting audiences around the world, and much of that is due to the excellent showrunning Matt has done on it," 20th TV chairman Gary Newman said. "We're looking forward to him continuing his leadership on 'Prison Break' and also creating his own shows."
20th TV is the only studio home Olmstead has ever known.
Following a freelance assignment for Steven Bochco's CBS drama Brooklyn South in 1997, Bochco gave Olmstead his first full-time writing job on Bochco's gritty ABC drama NYPD Blue, which was produced by 20th TV.
