We have reached a point in cinema where two upcoming Disney movies have officially been rated R and it has interestingly come as no surprise. According to FilmRatings.com, Alien: Romulus has officially received its R rating for bloody violent content and language, while Deadpool & Wolverine has also been rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore and sexual references. More adult-oriented movies with stronger ratings have been released by Disney in the past. However, they would usually be released under different banners like the now-defunct Touchstone Pictures or Hollywood Pictures instead of the actual Magic Kingdom castle.
These two films being given their natural R ratings was expected as their usual nature and tone in past films would naturally be capitalized on for appeal. Interestingly, both franchises have dabbled in PG-13 territory as the Alien films would get a more adventure-filled entry with the film Alien vs. Predator,...

Star Wars is now one of the biggest franchises of all time. Whether it is the movies, TV shows, toys, or comics, the franchise has now become a part of popular culture and will undeniably remain so, for decades to come. Yet, the first-ever Star Wars movie was plagued with development and production issues, so severe were these issues that George Lucas nearly had a heart attack.
George Lucas via Star Wars/Youtube
In the middle of these issues, Lucas decided to screen the rough cut of the movie to some of his industry colleagues. While auteurs like Steven Spielberg struggled to understand it, even the movie’s editor, Paul Hirsch was unable to make heads or tails out of it.

The Cannes 2024 Camera Chart demonstrates a very intriguing fact. Most of the cameras used to shoot the films have Super 35 sensors. Hence, filmmakers chose Super 35 over the large format. The dominant cameras are the Arri Alexa Mini, Arri 35, Sony Venice, and the Arri Mini Lf. But the majority of DPs chose to shoot with the Mini and 35 over the Mini Lf and Venice. That proves that the Super 35 format is still the gold standard.

Our Cannes Film Festival 2024 Camera Chat (derived from the IndieWire survey) demonstrates some interesting tendencies regarding the format chosen to shoot the selected films. The Marvel Rivals closed alpha is finally out, and while the similarities to Overwatch are aplenty, there’s no denying that the hero shooter allows players to experience the distinctive abilities of various Marvel superheros, of which there will be 19 at launch.
However, the closed alpha has also revealed that Scarlet Witch is an unusually overpowered character, which is sort of on-brand but could bring balance issues within the ecosystem of the game itself. A recent gameplay clip demonstrates the sorceress’ boundless power.
Chaos Magic Makes For Some Mighty Abilities
Scarlet Witch has a host of lethal attacks that are primarily offense-focussed.
Staying in line with the comics, Scarlet Witch wields powerful Chaos Magic in Marvel Rivals, making her a versatile and, as we shall see, devastating force in a match. Think Reyna from Valorant, but with even more abilities and attacks.
Scarlet Witch’s primary attack, Chaos Control, utilizes Chaos Magic for basic attacks.

With more than a dozen high-profile venues in their hospitality portfolio (Delilah, Bootsy Bellows, Bird Streets Club), The h.wood Group’s John Terzian and Brian Toll are the go-to-guys for L.A.’s coveted tables, the masterminds behind A-lister nights out and the gatekeepers of exclusive events surrounding Super Bowl and Paris Fashion Week. Now, they are harnessing the industry connections they have amassed over two decades to create h.wood Media, a multimedia production arm of their hospitality company.
Partner Jeremy Allen, who helped h.wood Media raise its first fund, oversees the film and TV slate from development to studio projects. They are working on projects with Kid Cudi, Machine Gun Kelly, Post Malone, and more. Former HBO executive Emma Slivers serves as director of development.
The multi-strategy vertical grew from a collaboration between Allen, Toll and Terzian on 2022’s They Call Me Magic, an Emmy-nominated Apple+ docuseries about Magic Johnson.

Even in this age of instant YouTube gratification, movie trailers are a big deal. They get us hyped for an upcoming project by making promises that the eventual film will (hopefully) pay off. The best sizzle reels are even able to do this by giving a taste of things to come without ruining any surprises or plot twists. Think about the teaser for Alien with its cracking egg and unnerving siren sound, or the deft use of a choral version of Radiohead’s “Creep” in the classic promo for The Social Network. Both of those examples speak to the haunting nature of their movies while allowing space for the film to stand on its own down the road.
But some trailers do their job too well. Some trailers outdo the movies they advertise, sometimes because the film has a concept too shallow to sustain more than three minutes, and sometimes...

A Magic Key holder recently discovered the consequences of trying to sell Disneyland Sweethearts’ Nite tickets on the popular auction site. The Press-Telegram reports that a gentleman named Andrew Rich was hit with Mickey’s ban hammer for violating ticket rules.

There’s just something inherently creepy about dolls, and filmmakers have had a lot of fun over the decades crafting horror stories around that creepiness. Audiences clearly love to see it, otherwise there wouldn’t be so many creepy / killer doll movies out there. Just last year, M3GAN was such a hit that a sequel was put on the fast track, while another killer doll (or killer teddy bear) movie, Imaginary, is in theatres now. So to celebrate this sub-genre, we decided to put together a list of some of the all-time best killer dolls. Not killer doll movies, but specific dolls. Here is our list of the Top 10 Killer Dolls!

Rhett Miller bums a ride in the back of a pickup and receives the signs of his past and future in the video for “Where the Road Goes,” the Old 97’s’ new song that celebrates the band’s more than 30 years of longevity.
While Miller sings about various highs and lows of life and career (“from the bottom of a bottle to the palazzo/who knows where the road goes”), he sees the number 97 everywhere — on a highway sign, above a gas station — and also a ramshackle marquee announcing American Primitive,...

North America Box Office: Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan Becomes The Only Indian Film Beating Even Oppenheimer To Get #1 Movie Tag In 2023… ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
It looks like it’s Shah Rukh Khan’s box office day today because just after writing about his unmatched stardom in Germany, we’re back with yet another record he created in 2023, and this time it’s North America. Amidst the bundle of many memorable films in the year, Yash Raj Films’ Pathaan became the only Indian film to earn this prestigious record.
Pathaan released on 25th January 2023 when James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water was ruling the American box office. It not only managed to grab a day from it to become the top-grossing domestic movie in North America but also became the only Indian film to do so.

Lionsgate said today its acquisition of global entertainment platform eOne from Hasbro is done.
The transaction announced last August adds 6,500 film and television titles to Lionsgate’s large library; diversifies and strengthens its scripted and unscripted television businesses; extends its portfolio of brands and franchises; and expands its presence in Canada and the UK.
The deal is for $375 million in cash plus the assumption of some production financing loans.
EOne produces ABC hit franchise The Rookie, critically-acclaimed Showtime series Yellowjackets, and the long-running Discovery unscripted series Naked & Afraid. The library has 1917, Atomic Blonde, Green Book, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Renegade and Designated Survivor.
The transaction also includes film development rights to Hasbro’s Monopoly brand. Lionsgate knows that property well and had specifically carved out the film development rights as part of the overall deal. Most Hasbro IP led by family brands will remain with the Pawtucket, Ri-based toymaker including animated projects Peppa Pig,...

Whenever a big studio movie comes along, it's a foregone conclusion that the road to its theatrical release will feature a variety of cross-promotional tie-ins. Whether it's action figures and Funko POPs, t-shirts and cosmetics, or even specialty menus at chain restaurants, the studio's publicity campaign tries anything and everything to raise awareness and drive people to theaters to see a given movie. Sometimes, a movie is tailor-made for cross-promotional tie-ins.
Take "Wonka," for example, a movie that is packed with delicious chocolates. Even on the film's set, the candy was real and available for the cast and crew to eat. Because of the movie's sweet center, you'd think Warner Bros. would be taking full advantage of the film's primary prop as a way to bring chocolates to the masses, inspired by their appearance in the chocolatier's origin story from "Paddington" director Paul King. But you'd be wrong.
That's right,...

Of course Sza’s Sos was the album I played the most in 2023 — but remember, it came out in December 2022 and I ranked it second on last year’s list of top albums, obviously under Beyoncé’s Renaissance.
Though Sza owned the year, several great albums showed up in 2023. Here are the projects that lived rent free in my home and in my headphones.
1. Victoria Monét, Jaguar II
It’s a beautiful thing when someone working to help others achieve their dreams steps into the limelight. With Jaguar II, that’s Victoria Monét. The songwriter behind hits for Ariana Grande and others has been releasing incredible music for years — check out 2018’s Life After Love, Pt. 2 and 2020’s Jaguar if you’re just arriving at her fan club — but she’s finally at the forefront, and her major label debut album is a masterpiece. She’s bold and bombastic on “On My Mama,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 10, Episode 12 of “The Masked Singer,” “Soundtrack to My Life,” which aired Dec. 13 on Fox.
Oh, oh, here he comes. Watch out boy, he’ll chew you up! Oh, oh, here he comes. John Oates is an Anteater.
Say it isn’t so. John Oates, one half of the most successful rock duo of all time — Daryl Hall & John Oates — was revealed on Wednesday as the Anteater on “The Masked Singer.” Later, Keyshia Cole was also unmasked as the Candelabra.
The Oates appearance comes at quite a coincidental moment: He and Hall have been in the news recently after a falling out (and Hall’s lawsuit) over Oates’ plan to sell his share of their joint venture.
“I can’t really talk about it,” Oates told Variety last week. “I don’t really want to talk about it. It...

“I’ve always loved theatrical rock and roll,” says music legend Sebastian Bach while discussing his time as Tiki on “The Masked Singer.” The Skid Row frontman was eliminated on episode 9 following an “I Wanna Rock” night performance of “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” by Kiss. “Elton John, Kiss, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, I’ve always loved a big show. Big costumes, fire and smoke and bombs going off. ‘The Masked Singer’ is definitely a big production.” Watch his exclusive video interview with Gold Derby senior Denton Davidson above.
One of the most fun aspects of Bach’s time on the show was song selection. “Most TV that I’ve done is very scripted,” he explains. “I was on ‘Gilmore Girls’ for seven seasons. On that show it’s a story, so if they said, ‘We’re doing this song, Hollaback Girl,’ I don’t have any problem with that,...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Wednesday’s episode of The Masked Singer, including the identities of the eliminated contestants.
It was a double elimination night for The Masked Singer, and two contestants got the axe during rock night.
Despite a rendition of “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” that got the audience and the judges going, Husky was first on the chopping block, sending Tiki and Sea Queen into the battle royale. After making it through several rounds of The Masked Singer, it’s hard to believe the artist behind this mask almost declined the chance to perform at all.
“My agent gave me a call and said that they wanted me on the show, and originally I said no,” Ginuwine told Deadline a few hours before his unmasking. Luckily, he had a change of heart.
“I’m pretty much a person [that likes] space to myself,” he said. “So I figured,...

Actress Megan Hilty will make her stage debut as Madeline Ashton in the musical adaptation of the classic “Death Becomes Her” in April 2024. The role was originally played by Meryl Streep in the 1992 film version, a fact that is not lost on Hilty at all.
The pair haven’t yet spoken about the role, but Hilty said that she would “fall to the floor” if Streep ever wanted to chat.

Being one of Stephen King‘s children, author Joe Hill has a connection to the Creepshow franchise that goes back to its very beginning – in fact, Hill was in the original, classic 1982 film (watch it Here) that was written by King and directed by George A. The one shot comic book Creepshow: Joe Hill’s Wolverton Station is set to reach store shelves (and digital stores) on Wednesday, March 27th.
