The Costumes of Blade Runner
Fashion Forward: Wardrobe and Styling (2007)
**** (out of 4)
Another excellent featurette that can be found on the 30th Anniversary release of BLADE RUNNER. This here features Michael Kaplan in the spotlight as he talks about the various costumes that he and Charles Knode had to come up with for Ridley Scott's film. Basically this 20-minute piece shows us every actor and then we learn what was done to come up with their costume. The actors interviewed here including Harrison Ford, Sean Young, Darryl Hannah, Rutger Hauer, James Hong, Edward James Olmos and Joanna Cassidy. Kaplan will show us some of the drawn out costumes and then we hear from the actors on how they felt about the costume and then of course we see the final result. We even get to hear from Ford about how he demanded not to wear a hat because his previous film had him wearing on and the actor also talks about how he got his own haircut done. We also hear about a trick they tried doing for Young's legs that just didn't work out in the end. Overall this here is another terrific piece that really does give one the idea of what it's like having to communicate and have things checked out before you can actually make a movie. I really loved hearing about some of the technical problems that came up during shooting and how you then just have to come up with fresh things to try. Fans of the film or just those interested in behind-the-scenes stories should love this.
