Beetlejuice Beetlejuice producer Tommy Harper has just helped Tim Burton return to the big screen with a bang after a five year absence, with the film grossing $264.3M worldwide in its first two weeks on release.
The seasoned producer – who is also a go-to for Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and Joseph Kosinski – is not resting on his laurels amid the congratulatory coverage.
After a whirlwind launch tour, which saw the film open Venice and then head to London for its UK premiere; followed by a quick trip to L.A. for Burton to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the pair are preparing to shoot the last two episodes of season 2 of Netflix hit show Wednesday.
“It’s been a very busy time,” says Harper. “We wanted to give all our attention to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, to get it out into world, and then go to Dublin to finish up Wednesday.

The 2022 TV series "Wednesday," created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, is a modern update of the Addams Family, characters featured in a series of ghoulish comic strips that first appeared in the pages of the New Yorker in 1933. Over the decades, the Addams Family characters were given their own sitcom, a few animated shows, and multiple theatrical features and TV movies, not to mention comic books, video games, and pinball machines.
The myth of the Addams Family has remained consistent throughout: The Addams are a loving, healthy family whose values only happen to be a complete dark mirror of ordinary people's. The Addams Family love death, bleakness, and misery. They regularly commit murder, and seem to be immortal. And yet, they love everything they do. The family patriarch Gomez is enthused and sexually devoted to his wife Morticia. The young daughter Wednesday is a classic Goth kid, and happy to harm her brother Pugsley.

Exclusive: Aimee Garcia has joined Criminal Minds: Evolution for the Paramount+ series’ third season.
In a multiple-episode arc, Garcia will portray Dr. Julia Ochoa, one of the country’s leading neuropsychiatrists who is assigned to help a high-profile patient recover from his injury-induced brain trauma. She clashes with Alvez (Adam Rodriguez) who, by contrast, believes in a more aggressive approach than her gentle approach.
Criminal Minds: Evolution is an expansion of the original CBS series which ran from 2005-2020. In the current season, the FBI’s elite team of criminal profilers comes up against an UnSub who has used the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers. As the world opens back up and the network goes operational, the team must hunt them down, one murder at a time.
The series stars Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, Ryan-James Hatanaka with Adam Rodriguez and Paget Brewster.

Tim Burton is back. The famous filmmaker, artist and guy who showed the world that not owning a comb isn’t a dealbreaker for Monica Bellucci technically never left, but now he’s made a movie that people actually want to see for the first time in a long while.
In addition to directing the highly-anticipated sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Burton just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And it’s well-deserved, considering his long career, which found him churning out modern classics, followed by some okay stuff, and eventually, a whole bunch of joyless CGI-filled remakes featuring Johnny Depp in increasingly goofy wigs.
Burton’s influence over the world of film has been so great, there are a number of movies with serious Tim Burton vibes that were in no way directed by Tim Burton. Some of the most Burton-y non-Burton projects include…

After more than 35 years, Tim Burton finally found the secret ingredient needed to bring Beetlejuice back to life once again.
While promoting Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which premieres Sept. 6 in theaters, returning stars Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara credited Jenna Ortega for helping the director see his long-awaited sequel to fruition after first working together on Netflix‘s Wednesday.
Noting that the actress “literally didn’t exist” yet when the original 1988 movie premiered, Keaton said to Burton for USA Today, “She gets born, you end up doing a thing with her. Then you go, wait a minute. Her? It? If she’s not around, we may never make this thing.”
“We had to wait for you to live,” O’Hara joked to their 21-year-old co-star Ortega, who quipped: “The powers have shifted in the room.”

Since she retired from teaching, she’s picked up some odd habits, such as sitting in the yard burning ants with a magnifying glass and killing the family pets.
Six months later it hasn’t gotten any better, and she goes as far as cutting off her husband Richard’s finger and feeding it to him after he mentions it’s the twelfth night in a row she’s served meatloaf for dinner. That gets her committed to a mental hospital.

One of the budding actors of this generation, Jenna Ortega fits into the pop culture phenomenon easily due to her relevance in the box office industry. However, it is not through the ubiquitous comic book franchises like Marvel or DC that the starlet climbed the ladder to global recognition.

Like most fresh actors in the industry, including Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Timothée Chalamet, Ortega shares the credit for avoiding the superhero business and slipping into the mainstream business through arthouse roles that most closely fit her image. For the Wednesday star, the chosen field happens to be the horror genre.

As beloved as Tim Burton’s original 1988 classic “Beetlejuice” may be, no one could accuse the film of having much in the way of deep human emotions. It was a vibes movie with a transfixing level of world-building, the imagination to rewrite the rules of life and death, and the funny bone to merge both realms for a calypso dance sequence. It became a legacy credit for actors Geena Davis, Catherina O’Hara, and Winona Ryder, not to mention the decaying bio-exorcist at the undead heart of it all: Michael Keaton.
After several abortive attempts at a sequel over the intervening decades, director Tim Burton has — with a few exceptions — reassembled his original core squad, including composer Danny Elfman. To the mix, he has added a perfectly-chosen menage of new names and pulled off a maturation of the two-for-one world he once built from the waiting room of the Afterlife...

Pretty soon, audiences are going to be able to see Jenna Ortega encounter sandworms in a vast desert. If the trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is anything to go by, her character may find herself on Saturn, in which she may have to run from such creatures. However, the actress may have encountered some previously since it has been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that Ortega had gone in to try out for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.
THR reports that the star of Tim Burton’s upcoming sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice recently told BuzzFeed in a new interview that she had auditioned for the movie back when she was 15, but she isn’t exactly sure which role it was for and hypothesizes it might’ve been for Zendaya’s role, Chani. Ortega explained,
I think it was Chani, I think it was Zendaya’s. But they weren’t saying that. Everything was very secret.

Sabrina Carpenter is back with another music video folks can’t stop talking about, and this time, she’s joined by “Wednesday” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” star Jenna Ortega. Fittingly, the video is full of horror, camp and cult classic movie references — and we’ve put together a handy list to guide you through them.
1. “Death Becomes Her”
This is the most overt reference and it runs throughout the video, as “Taste” has a few references to Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep’s 1992 dark comedy. Most obviously, the core conceit of two unkillable women fighting to the would-be death over one man, as well as the iconic costuming.
There’s also the whole shotgun sequence, which heavily tips its hat to “Death Becomes Her,” right down to the hole left in Carpenter’s torso — a parallel to Goldie Hawn’s unforgettable “I have a hole in my stomach” scene — and the shot peering right through it.

The 25th anniversary of Deep Blue Sea is generally not seen as a significant cultural event. In the grand context of a world spinning wildly off its axis, finding time to remember that movie where scientists use shark brains to cure Alzheimer’s can be difficult.
Yet Deep Blue Sea deserves to be remembered. Not for the events of the film itself—though it is, remarkably, still one of the best shark movies ever made—but rather for the incredible original rap song that plays over its end credits, “Deepest Bluest (Shark’s Fin).” In that rousing ballad, rapper and Deep Blue Sea co-star LL Cool J delivers what could best be described as a shark’s diss track to the rest of the world sung from the shark’s perspective. Jenna Ortega and Glen Powell are two stars who know a thing or two about legacy sequels. Ortega has helped spearhead the latest Scream reboot in recent years and is about to star in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, whilst Powell has proven his movie star chops with standout turns in the likes of Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters. But, according to Deadline, it looks like the duo are set to leave franchise fare behind to team up on the latest film from J.J. Abrams. Per the trade's reporting, Ortega and Powell are both in final talks to board Abrams' as-yet-untitled latest movie at Warner Bros.
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say we know next to nothing about what Abrams is cooking up over at his Bad Robot HQ at this point, beyond the fact the Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise Of Skywalker director has written the script himself and — as...

David Lynch may be “homebound” but he is never leaving Hollywood.
The auteur took to social media to clarify making his emphysema diagnosis public in an upcoming interview with Sight & Sound magazine.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, yes, I have emphysema from my many years of smoking,” Lynch tweeted. “I have to say that I enjoyed smoking very much, and I do love tobacco — the smell of it, lighting cigarettes on fire, smoking them — but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment, and the price for me is emphysema. I have now quit smoking for over two years.”
Lynch continued, “Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern. Love, David.”

David Lynch has revealed that after decades as a director, he is now “homebound” amid an emphysema diagnosis.
The 78-year-old auteur told Sight & Sound magazine (via The Independent) that he cannot leave his house due to his weakened immune system. However, the “Mulholland Drive” and “Twin Peaks” auteur is open to directing remotely “if it comes to it.”
“I’ve gotten emphysema from smoking for so long and so I’m homebound whether I like it or not. I can’t go out,” Lynch said. “Because of Covid, It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold.”
Lynch added that he “can only walk a short distance before” he is “out of oxygen.”
Emphysema, which is also referred to as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, is predicted to be the third leading cause of death worldwide by 2030, according to the World Health Organization.

Talk about getting the band back together! After going toe-to-toe with a legion of gun-toting criminals in 2021’s Nobody, Christopher Lloyd will reload his shotgun to star alongside Bob Odenkirk in the highly anticipated sequel, Nobody 2. Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto helms Nobody 2 based on a screenplay written by Derek Kolstad, Aaron Rabin, Odenkirk, and Umair Aleem. The 1966 "Batman" TV series -- one of the best TV shows of all time -- wasn't shy about including shameless cameos. Early in the show's run, the producers invented an organic conceit that would allow famous people to literally poke their heads in for a moment to deliver a few lines of dialogue. While Batman (Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward) were scaling the side of a building -- something they did often -- a celebrity guest would open a window to see who might be making noise on their outside wall. The series featured peek-ins from Sammy Davis, Jr., Jerry Lewis, Art Linkletter, Don Ho, and Dick Clark.
Other notable stars also provided peek-ins, but many appeared in character, playing their roles from other hip TV shows at the time. Ted Cassidy, for instance, appeared as Lurch from "The Addams Family." Werner Klemperer had a cameo as Colonel Klink from "Hogan's Heroes.

Every day, the line between traditional and digital media gets blurrier. Content creators trying to break into movies, TV, and music is a pretty common occurrence these days, but plenty of celebrities who found their fame in the “traditional” manner have migrated to digital media. Everyone from popular athletes and beloved Disney channel starlets to record label execs and disgraced news pundits are starting podcasts and YouTube channels. Your favorite actor boosting their social media or your favorite YouTuber getting a part in an upcoming film feels less like jumping from one industry to another, and more like it’s all part of the same game. Despite doubt that YouTube was a viable business when Google acquired it in 2006 and speculation that the golden age of user-generated content (Ugc) has passed, YouTube is currently winning the streaming wars. With one billion (with a b) worldwide watch hours per day on televisions alone,...

Now showing, this week’s film quiz features questions on animated heroes, real-life villains, and fictional movies within movies.
There are a couple of movies about making movies out now – MaXXXine sees Mia Goth’s aspiring movie star bag a role in a 1980s horror sequel, while Fly Me To The Moon has Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum stage moon-landing footage as a Plan B for NASA in 1969. Accordingly, this week’s film quiz has a whole round on fictional films within real films – think more The Purple Rose Of Cairo in The Purple Rose Of Cairo than “Argo”in Argo.
Once you’ve completed all three rounds, you’ll find a link to a separate post with the correct answers at the bottom of this post. As always, this is all just for fun, but please let us know how you did in the comments (scores out of 30 this week!

Barry Sonnenfeld – the director of films such as The Addams Family and Men In Black – has more tales to tell.
Having cemented a career as a director of photography, Barry Sonnenfeld made the jump to the director’s chair at the start of the 1990s, his debut being 1991’s The Addams Family. A hit movie – and a difficult production – it started a run of movies that included the first three Men In Black films, Get Shorty, the underrated Big Trouble and the infamous Wild Wild West.
Sonnenfeld has already penned one memoir, Call Your Mother: Memoirs Of A Neurotic Filmmaker, and it’s quite the read too. Now, he’s collected together another bunch of stories from his working life, for Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time.
His new book, which is due out in October, now promises a look at how Hollywood really works, framed through the many film...

David Lynch hasn’t directed a feature film since Inland Empire in 2006, but he has directed many shorts since then, as well as all 18 episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return. A while back, we heard that he’s hoping to make an animated film called Snootworld, which was rejected by the Netflix streaming service… but while we wait to find out whether or not Snootworld is going to find a home, Lynch is working with Chrystabell to send a new music album out into the world. This album is called Cellophane Memories and has a street date of August 2nd. Copies are available to pre-order at This Link.
In a video posted to X at the end of May, Lynch said, “Ladies and gentlemen, something is coming along for you to see and hear. And it will be coming along on June 5.” As it turns out, that “something” was a...

Later this summer, Michelle Visage graduates from Drag Race judge to host when the longtime producer of RuPaul’s global competition takes over as emcee of the Down Under installment of the franchise.
For Visage, the multihyphenate who first made a name for herself as part of the 1980s girl group Seduction, new endeavors are something she’s seeking more and more. She recently returned to the West End, playing Morticia in The Addams Family, and acted on TV in Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest. Gabbing remains her bread and butter — she and pal Leah Remini still want their own talk show — but she’s trying to flex some muscles she hasn’t used in years. Hopping on the phone from her home in London a few weeks back, Visage talked about what’s guiding her choices these days, her time touring with Milli Vanilli and why she says...

It's no secret that Netflix has been leading the pack of streaming platforms producing original content around the world for years. Netflix's productions are known for being high quality and high budget, but heavily dependent on viewership.
And while I can name a dozen Netflix series that I truly love, there are some that make me question the streamer's strategy. By canceling some of its better shows, it continues to give a platform to those stories that don't really deserve it. Here are 8 Netflix original series that get way more hype than they're worth.
Orange is the New Black (2013-2019)
We all know that this show has been praised for its progressive storytelling and provocative themes, and I can respect that. More than that, I was completely obsessed with it when it first aired. In retrospect, though, it just wasn't that good.

One of the near casualties of Zaslav’s reign of cancellation at Warner Bros. was the new animated series from Batman: The Animated Series guru Bruce Timm. The show Batman: Caped Crusader brings back Timm’s famous style and is thrown back to the very early era of the Bat-Man comic book from the 1930s and 40s. Thankfully, Amazon stepped in to pick up the show for Prime Video and now, the trailer to the animated series has now been made available online.
The series is billed as a “reimagining of the Batman mythology” that will utilize “state-of-the-art animation techniques and technologies available, this powerful creative partnership will once again reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”

Charles Addams' very first strip in what might be considered the Addams Family series ran on August 6, 1938 in the pages of the New Yorker. The strip features a large, bearded, brutish man — clearly designed after Boris Karloff's character in "The Old Dark House" — standing next to a whip-thin, vampiric woman in a slinky black dress. That same woman would later appear in additional "haunted house" strips standing next to a new husband — a squat creeper in a suit — as well her two dreadful children. Also part of the "family" were a witch-like grandmother, a bald, grinning weirdo, and a towering, Frankensteinian butler. These characters didn't have names, so readers merely referred to them as the Addams Family.
When the strips were adapted into a TV sitcom in 1964, the vampire woman was finally given a name: Morticia Addams. She and her husband Gomez were really into each other, constantly flirting...

Shields prevailed over stage manager Erin Maureen Koster, a stage manager and third vice president at Actors’ Equity and Wydetta Carter, an actor who had been serving as Equity’s first vice president. Her four-year term begins effective immediately.
Kate Shindle had served as president since 2015, but decided to step down after her term ended May 23.

Shindle has said that she will remain active in the labor movement but now intends to focus on resuming her acting career, noting that the unpaid position of president left her with so little time for acting that she had not been able to clock enough professional hours to quality for Equity health insurance.
Shields’ win was confirmed this morning by Equity, which announced the results of its 2024 Officer and Councilor Election. In total, 45 council seats across all three regions and representing four categories were filled, effective immediately. All terms are four years except where noted.
In addition to Shields, the 2024 officers include Rashaan James II, elected Eastern Regional Vice President; Sarah Labarr, elected Central Regional Vice President, without opposition. Jeffrey Landman was elected Western Regional Vice President, without opposition. All officers were elected to four-year terms.
In announcing her run for the presidency in April, Shields said, “I felt it was my responsibility to step up, I want to lead with strength. I want to lead with intelligence, with compassion, with passion. And, of course, a little bit of humor, always…I have been in the trenches with you and you have always had my back. And I’m here to tell you that I have your back.”
Shields comes to the position with no experience in union leadership, but has been a working actor since childhood. She has appeared on Broadway in Grease, Chicago, Cabaret, Wonderful Town and The Addams Family.

Six decades or so ago, television was dominated by "wholesome" American family sitcoms, with shows like "Leave It to Beaver," "The Andy Griffith Show," and "Father Knows Best" serving as not only entertainment but as a model guide for viewers to emulate their own "perfect family." Assimilation was the key to an idyllic existence, but that doesn't make for an exciting TV lineup. Each network had its standard American family show, but in an attempt to motivate viewers not to touch that dial, they started diversifying what a family looked like.
No, that diversity did not come in the form of families of non-white races ("Good Times" wouldn't launch until 1974), but it did come with magical beings like "I Dream of Jeannie" and "Bewitched," or monstrously weird like "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters." Both "The Addams Family" and "The Munsters" are so beloved that the shows have been reimagined...

The first Charles Addams' strip that might be considered a part of the Addams Family canon was published in the pages of the New Yorker on August 6, 1938. In it, a vacuum cleaner salesman stands just inside a large, creepy, obviously haunted mansion, addressing the denizens, a cadaverous vampire woman and a brutish bearded man. The salesman, unperturbed by his grim surroundings offers his sales pitch, declares that no well-appointed home should be without such an appliance.
58 of Addams' 1,300 cartoon strips would feature his oddball Family, a nameless clan of ghouls who cherished horror and death. Throughout the '40s, a central canon of Family members would solidify, and come to include a squat, beastly patriarch, his skeletal wife, their two murderous children, a witchy grandmother, a fecklessly weird bald uncle, and their Frankensteinian live-in butler. In Addams' strips, the Family would talk about how much they loved destructive storms, how...

Finally, after what is starting to feel like forever, ‘Wednesday’ season 2 has officially started filming. But two of our beloved characters won’t be back, and no I don’t mean those who we watched die in the first season. Here’s all we know.
The Addams Family – Will Enroll In Nevermore Academy Ahead of Season 2
‘Wednesday’ season 2 may be a long time coming, but it’s coming big and bigger than anyone could ever expect.
Apart from Thandiwe Newton and Steve Buscemi becoming series regulars (Thandiwe will play Dr. Fairburn and Buscemi will play Barry Dort), the series has managed to add a host of interesting guest stars, and some of them, one way or another, have connections to different variations of ‘Addams Family’ over the years.
One of the new additions with a previous connection to the world of ‘Wednesday’ is Christopher Lloyd, who played Uncle Fester in...
