Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" within the Dceu with 2022's Black Adam. The movie was meant to be a fan-pleasing blockbuster which launched a new version of this shared world that, in Johnson's eyes, revolved around his anti-hero.
He reportedly went behind the backs of executives to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman, refused to share the screen with Zachary Levi's Shazam, and hoped to launch everything from a Justice Society movie to Hawkman as part of a slate he and Seven Bucks Productions would oversee.
Black Adam proved to be a mess of a movie with murky visuals and hit-and-miss CGI. Crucially, box office numbers weren't good, reviews were even worse, and Johnson soured people on this already struggling franchise enough to impact 2023's Dceu titles negatively.

The love towards westerns is easily understandable: which other genre can give us so many different stories at the same time? There’s always a pride and honor plotline, a romantic story, some family drama, and of course good-old fight scenes in a picturesque landscape.
For many years after the golden era with Wayne and Eastwood the role of an iconic western leading man went to Kevin Costner, especially amid the tremendous success of the Yellowstone series.
But we think it's only fair to mention another brilliant western performance by another A-list actor, Pierce Brosnan. The former James Bond and Mamma Mia star actually made quite an impression as Eli McCullough, the greedy Texas oil tycoon in a western series called The Son.
The Son is a multigenerational epic that tells the story of Eli’s life from his complicated childhood to the times when he becomes a father of the family.

Halle Berry has been a powerhouse performer who has confidently balanced her filmography with compelling character-driven dramas and entertaining studio blockbusters. Bulworth, and Introducing Dorothy Dandridge made everyone notice her acting chops, and she was cast as Storm in the Fox X-Men films.
Halle Berry as Nina in Bulworth | 20th Century Studios
Her peak acting moment came with 2001’s Monster’s Ball, directed by Marc Forster and her incredible performance led to an Oscar win for Best Actress. The complex human drama required the actress to channel her real emotions and be completely vulnerable in front of the camera. Berry was so committed to the tragic nature of the character that she did not recognize herself when she watched the film.

In “The Great Lillian Hall,” Jessica Lange plays a veteran theater actress — a legend of the Broadway stage — who is always putting on airs, reciting bits from her favorite roles, and carrying on in the tradition of fabled actresses who get known for playing characters like Blanche DuBois because they’ve actually got a lot of Blanche in them. (They believe their own illusions.) Yet just because Lillian Hall is a flamboyant grand dame doesn’t mean that she’s not showing you who she is. Lange, a beauty at 75, has a face that has only grown more expressive with the years. In “The Great Lillian Hall,” that face is a map of emotion we read. Even when Lillian is being deceptive (even when she’s deceiving herself), the majesty of her feelings shines through.

Halle Berry scored one of her most memorable roles with the 2002 feature Monster’s Ball. She knew the Oscar-winning role would be something special as soon as she read the script. But when she saw herself in the movie, even Berry was unprepared with how unfamiliar she’d look.

Berry agreed that the Marc Foster-directed movie left her exposed in a way she never was before, both literally and figuratively. Berry had to play a very complicated and sometimes unlikable character in Monster’s Ball. The role required her to channel real emotions to truly embody the part.
“Well, it was that kind of movie,” Berry once told BBC. “It was about really servicing those characters and making them as flawed and as complicated as a human being is. Marc...

Depending on how Russian your sense of humor is, Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard” could be classified as either the darkest of comedies or a tragedy that sometimes manages to be mildly humorous. The play follows a past-their-prime family of Russian aristocrats who are forced to sell their eponymous orchard, which they spent most of their lives ignoring and neglecting. But once it’s time to actually part ways, they become overwhelmed by morose nostalgia as they struggle to let go of something that they assumed would always be there. It’s both a brilliant satire of wealth-induced decadence and a somber exploration of how humans struggle to say goodbye at the ends of their eras.
So it’s fitting that, whether she knows it or not, Lillian Hall’s (Jessica Lange) upcoming turn as Madame Lyubov Andreievna Ranevskaya in “The Cherry Orchard” will be her final performance. Michael Cristofer...

What do you think about when we say the word “Peaky Blinders”. A shot of Cillian Murphy smoking his cigarette and pouring whiskey into a glass on the table. Well, the vibe is very similar to that of James Bond, if Bond was in the year 1919.
Paul Anderson and Cillian Murphy as the Shelby brothers in Peaky Blinders | BBC Two
This is exactly what people want to see when a new James Bond film is announced. Not the year 1919, but fans are seemingly going crazy about a rumor that Cillian Murphy is the next choice for James Bond in the upcoming film. Although there might be truth to that rumor (or not), an actor who previously portrayed the role of James Bond added fuel to the fire by supporting the it.

Daniel Craig gained international prominence after playing the latest version of James Bond in a series of five films. His reimagination of Ian Fleming’s renowned spy was critically and commercially acclaimed by everyone. Despite achieving widespread praise for his portrayal, Craig has a major regret with his rendition of 007.
Daniel Craig as James Bond in Casino Royale | Eon Productions
Daniel Craig had to undergo several breathtaking action sequences and stunts to bring one of the best James Bond on-screen. This also led to the 56-year-old sustaining several injuries during the film series. He has never shied away from openly talking about his painful journey as Bond.
According to the Cowboys & Aliens actor, he should not have cried so much over his James Bond injuries. He regretted the fact it overshadowed his other contributions to the part.

Daniel Craig’s edgy and gritty version of James Bond is widely considered to be one of the most popular interpretations of the suave British spy. Following the more traditional and intentionally witty portrayal by Pierce Brosnan, Craig took over in 2006 with his first film in the Bond franchise, Casino Royale, which went on to become a massive hit at the box office.

A unique feature of the 5 movies was the recurring reference to Eva Green’s character Vesper Lynd who becomes an important emotional link for James Bond through all the narratives despite only appearing in the first film. Craig believed that if the franchise had to move forward with a similar pattern, it would only work if the foundation was firmly set.

For over a decade, Roger Moore had the task of living up to everything that Sean Connery had put in place as 007. And while some will defend Moore forever, we can’t forget the clown costumes, slide whistles, gondola chases, and so much more that pushed James Bond into an uncharted level of ridiculousness. Perhaps all of this could have been prevented had Timothy Dalton not been so green, turning down On Her Majesty’s Secret Service because he was in his mid-20s. That’s all hypothetical, of course, but Timothy Dalton would go on to reinvent James Bond in a way that may not have sat with contemporary audiences but marked a true challenge for what it meant to carry the torch. Dalton played 007 just twice; and with that, we’d challenge you to name just as many worthwhile post-Bond movies from the underappreciated actor (who we’re...

I am a sucker for movies about Broadway and those who spend their lives in the theatre. Of course the crown jewel of the genre is the Oscar-winning All About Eve, but there are so many others including 1933’s Morning Glory which won a young Katherine Hepburn her first Academy Award, as well as its rarely seen remake, 1958’s underrated Stage Struck. Ginger Rogers did a good one, too: Forever Female. The list goes on and on and now includes a stellar new entry, The Great Lillian Hall which gives the great Jessica Lange a challenging role worth her talents.
Premiering on HBO May 31, just barely under the wire for Emmy consideration, Lange’s performance as a stage legend facing dementia should send chills down the spine of any other contenders for Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie this season. This veteran star simply knocks it out of the park.

Back in 2013, the world saw the first Now You See Me movie and was completely amazed by its magic, witty lines and charming characters. The story about illusionists who use their tricks to steal money from the rich satisfied people’s never-ending interest in heist flicks.
Here are 5 must-see genre’s staples that are guaranteed to amaze you even more.
1. Ocean's Eleven (2001)
This star-studded caper comedy presumably comes first to mind in this respect. Just like Now You See Me’s Four Horsemen, every member of the onscreen crew here has their own skills that are of much use in their attempt to rob three Las Vegas casinos in one night. It’s truly a fun and thrilling story where illusions are magically reasonable.
2. Inside Man (2006)

After the catastrophe of Die Another Day, the James Bond franchise desperately needed a fresh start. What made the failure of the Pierce Brosnan film so fascinating was how by the book it was. It followed every single thing that worked in the franchise and created a compilation film. Since this approach did not work, the creators had to get quite creative when they were making Casino Royale.
Daniel Craig in Casino Royale [Credit: Sony Pictures]There were many approaches taken during the making of the movie, and its untraditionality made it the most traditional Bond film to come out in years. The film was a masterpiece in every way, and the biggest reason for this was its ability to take risks. A major difference in the movie was its focus on characters and intentions rather than appeal and audience satisfaction.

The big-screen adaptations of Ian Fleming’s James Bond have never really been known for being faithful to their source material. Apart from some initial releases, such as On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and Thunderball, most films haven’t gone past the title of the books when it comes to borrowing material for the silver screen.
As a result, after rumors emerged claiming that Christopher Nolan was in talks to make a faithful adaptation of Fleming’s work, fans were elated. But as the story goes, these claims turned out to be false. However, had Quentin Tarantino got the ball running for his version of Casino Royale, fans would’ve witnessed a pretty truthful adaptation of the author’s first Bond novel.

Jessica Lange is perfection as the fictional actress Lillian Hall, known for decades as a revered star of the theater. During rehearsals for her starring role in The Cherry Orchard, she is having unusual difficulty memorizing her lines, and before long learns that the cause is early dementia. Despite that ominous theme, The Great Lillian Hall is a lovely tribute to life in the theater, with all its personal compromises, and a showcase for Lange, who deftly shows the character as a vulnerable woman and also displays the distinct style of Lillian the bravura actress.
Lillian is such a star that she is the key to the box office in the Broadway revival of Chekhov. The film’s trajectory takes her through rehearsals, and in and out of her personal life as she grapples with her diagnosis, in a plot driven by the question of whether she’ll make it to opening night.

Kraven the Hunter has been delayed several times already, but the release was pushed back yet again last month. The film is now set to hit theaters on December 13th. While speaking with Collider, Kraven the Hunter producer Matt Tolmach explained the reason behind the delay, saying it’s a sign of how highly Sony Pictures thinks of the film.
“Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again,” Tolmach said. “That was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. We’re really excited. But that’s a great move that reflects just the feeling about the movie.“

Jessica Lange may have hinted at her own retirement for years, but the legendary actress is actually playing it out onscreen with her latest film “The Great Lillian Hall.”

Since the character’s inception on the big screen, Bond girls were a staple in most James Bond adaptations, until Casino Royale, as Daniel Craig refrained from using this term. But before Craig took the 007 gig and became the definitive modern James Bond, we had Pierce Brosnan as the charming British spy.
But unlike most Bond girls during the ’60s and ’70s, who were limited to being eye candy with ridiculous names, in Brosnan’s films, they defied those stereotypes. This was apparent in the character of Jinx Johnson, played by Halle Berry, who was even considered for her own spin-off film.

The role of James Bond has played an instrumental part in Pierce Brosnan’s career. Despite succeeding some of the greatest Bond actors like the late Sean Connery and Roger Moore, Bosnan made a name as the character. However, his films could not attract the same amount of love as they had major problems and were widely criticized by fans and critics.

Pierce Brosnan started on a good note when he was introduced as the British Secret Service Agent in 1995’s GoldenEye. He gave an incredible performance and the audience liked this new version of 007. But the following three films failed to maintain the first film’s quality.

Although different people will have different picks, when it comes to picking their favorite James Bond, at least we can agree that all the 007 actors over the years have been ridiculously handsome. But initially, in Daniel Craig’s case, he wasn’t seen as attractive enough for the part of James Bond.
While this statement might appear ridiculous at first glance, as Craig isn’t only handsome but also the best Bond since Sean Connery, Martin Campbell had some genuine reason behind his hesitancy. Even though the director had no problem with the actor and was always his first choice, for a moment, he was worried because Craig didn’t fit the mold for a traditional-looking Bond.

One of the most adapted authors in history, Stephen King yet has a significant experience with movies proving that he has developed his critical eye over the years of dealing with filmmakers.
Though he’s mostly known as a cinephile who doesn’t follow the mainstream preferring to crash the movies that everyone adores, King still left everyone bewildered when admitted he hadn’t enjoyed Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill, but nonetheless gave it a credit saying there are some worse movies out there.
Several years ago King revealed that he’s not into “narcissistic stuff like Kill Bill” calling the film’s opening part a “blah movie”, but then proceeded with some kind of weird compliment for Tarantino’s hit saying that “isn’t a benchmark of awfulness” comparing it to Mars Attacks! or Mommie Dearest.

My, my, nobody could resist it, and seems like Mamma Mia is getting back to the cinema screens once again. Six years after the first movie’s sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again hit the theaters, the franchise gets an exciting update as Meryl Streep confirms that the third film is supposedly already in the works.
The actress also revealed that she’s expected to be back in the next installment, though, despite the raving reaction that the announcement will get soon, this news in particular can cause some sort of controversy that the creators have to deal with.
During her visit to the Cannes Film Festival where she received an Honorary Palme D’Or at the opening ceremony, Streep spilled the tea in one of her interviews saying that she has a conversation with Mamma Mia’s creators on her to-do list concerning the actress’ possible return to...

Frank Mannion’s Swipe Films is in production on Oxbridge, a Saltburn-inspired feature documentary about UK universities Oxford and Cambridge.
The film is directed and produced by Mannion, and will be ready for summer 2025.

Severin Films Goes Goth On June 4th With Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection: "Coming June 4th! Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection is the latest in our acclaimed series of Gothic Horror Blu-ray box sets and the first to focus on Spain’s tradition of Gothic Horror, which – particularly during the Franco dictatorship – was characterized by daring concepts, lush visuals, extreme sexuality, and a startling aestheic all its own. These four classic shockers from the 1970s represent the genre at its most audacious: In Necrophagous, the debut feature by writer/director Miguel Madrid, a fractured family in a crumbling castle conceals a grisly graveyard secret. The anthology film Cake Of Blood – never previously available outside of Spain – presents a quartet of supernatural tales by four young filmmakers. Hammer Films director John Gilling brings his inimitable style to the occult thriller in Cross Of The Devil.

When it comes to being a concierge at one of the world’s great hotels, Wes Anderson and The Grand Budapest Hotel got it (mostly) right.
“Of course, it’s a movie, so not everything is true,” says Maxime Nerkowski, chief concierge at the Carlton Cannes, a Regent Hotel, about Anderson’s 2014 Oscar winner in which Ralph Fiennes plays Monsieur Gustave H., concierge extraordinaire of a fictional Eastern European resort. “But the work, a lot of it, is like that. Doing whatever you can to fulfill your guests’ requests, however strange or unusual.”
The scene from the film where Gustave calls in a favor from the “society of the crossed keys,” a secret association of the best-of-the-best concierges from around the world, has its own real-life precedent. It’s called Les Clefs d’Or (The Golden Keys), and you can spot them by their lapel pins featuring, of course, a pair of gold keys.

True Brit Entertainment has revealed a first look image of Pierce Brosnan in the boxing biopic ‘Giant.’
The movie is based on the compelling true-life story of British-Yemeni pugilist Prince Naseem ‘Naz’ Hamed and his rags-to-riches ascent to a World Championship under the tutelage of his Irish-born boxing trainer Brendan Ingle.
The story of Hamed’s humble beginnings on the tough working-class streets of Sheffield and his discovery by Ingle, himself a steel industry worker turned boxing trainer. Their unlikely partnership along with Naz’ unorthodox style, cocky persona, and sheer dominance in the ring, propelled them to the top of boxing’s elite and unprecedented levels of global superstardom, all in the face of the rampant Islamophobia and racism of 80’s and 90’s Britain.
Also in news – Paul Giamatti, Joely Richardson & more join cast of ‘Downton Abbey 3’
Amir El-Masry will play Naz, and Brosnan takes on the role of Ingle.
