Big Momma's House 2 (2006)
Crap
Good actors especially Martin Laurence.
Apart from that this movie was the worst £5 i ever spent.
I would not recommend seeing this movie because the storyline is rubbish.
The movie was a let down because the first movie set such a high standard.
The storyline was predictable and not funny.
Save your money and watch Martin Laurence in Nothing to Lose or Blue Streak definitely his better movies.
Verdict: A real let down.
Smallville (2001)
Pure Genius
Good casting really makes this show work. Tom Welling is the ideal candidate to take on the role made famous by Dean Cain (who was superb) He has the looks, the body, the attitude and the stamina to become an excellent superhero. Combine this with the skills of Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, who creates suspense and gives the show credibility. Also the stunning Kristin Kreuk who gives mystery to the show. The wonderful Allison Mack who plays Chloe Sullivan always supports Clarke and provides all the answers. Finally Erica Durance who gives Lois Lane a meaning in Clarke Kents life. Supporting actors also give credibility to the show, John Schneider as Johnathon Kent, Annette O'Toole as Martha Kent and the superb John Glover as Lionel Luthor.
I think the reason this programme works is because we know how it ends!!! Smallville is ground breaking in that it takes a story such as Superman and it provides viewers with a background and insight in to how Superman, the one we already know, came to be.
Excellent and hope it continues.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
Its True
Coming from a family of 8 i can relate completely to the struggles of life in a large family.
I am the oldest of the 8 so I'm probably the Nora character then there's my brother who would be Charlie and the youngest is five.
We create so much mess and mayhem and our parents can totally relate to the Baker parents. We have the bathroom problem where one person takes longer than the others, we help make each others breakfasts and we cannot all fit in one car but i love it.
A refreshing movie showing the trials and tribulations of having a large family.
Definitely worth watching if only to see Tom Welling.
Selena (1997)
A true star
What can i say about 'Selena'? The first time i heard of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, i was holidaying in America. Living in England I had never heard of the cross over artist named Selena. I decided to watch the movie anyway not expecting too much to be honest but within the first five minutes i was captivated.
The movie begins with a young boy band trying to make it in the industry but they are faced with prejudice because they are Mexicans in America. As the movie develops we establish that one of the young boys in the band is Selenas father Abraham, played brilliantly by Edward James Olmos.
Although Abraham still yearns for his musical past he now has other priorities such as a wife, three young children and a number of jobs. Abraham is very head strong and determined in any thing he sets out to do and we understand this as we see how he was treated as a young boy.
One day Abraham begins strumming on his guitar playing a tune which captivates a young Selena's attention (Rebecca Lee Meza). As she sings along with her father, Abraham realises just how good Selena is, which gives him yet another idea...he will start a band involving all his family.
As the story develops we see Selena, her brother and sister being ordered to practice which they do not want to do because they want to play like the other kids but Abraham persists. Along with his band, Abraham also opens his own Mexican restaurant and asks Selena to provide the entertainment.
Being Mexican in America and a female, a young Selena was finding it very hard to establish herself as a serious artist. The charts were dominated by male country singers but Abraham never gave up hope. As he tells Selena, he only wants the best for her and finally Selenas mother agrees to give her full support to Abraham. On the beach front, Selenas mother teaches Selena to dance...a dance Selena would later perform on stage to thousands!!! The movie quickly jumps from this point in to Selena as an adult played superbly by Jennifer Lopez who has a remarkable resemblance to Selena. We see Jennifer perform on stage in identical clothing worn by Selena, doing the same dance moves and simply giving it her all in the style of Selena.
We also get to see Selena the person, her relationships with her mother, father, brother and sister and most importantly her husband. Chris Perez (Jon Seda) was hired by Abraham to play guitar for Selena on tour and soon a romance began against her fathers wishes. He sacked Chris and this hurt Selena so much she used to sneak off to see Chris alone. They decided in a heat of the moment to get married. Selena knew this would upset her father but she decided to see him and explain but a radio announcement of the shock wedding changes her mind. She does explain to her father the next day who apologises for not letting her make her own choices and accepts Chris in to the family. He also allows Chris back on the Selena tour which begins the next day.
Along side this storyline we see Selena branch out in to other projects such as her fashion and beauty business in which she hires Yolanda Saldivar (Lupe Ontiveros) as her financial manager of her fan club. This proves to be a fatal mistake for Selena. As the movie develops, Selena and Chris decide once the tour is over they will start a family and have a farm which has always been a dream for Selena. On top of this Selena has just won a Grammy for her album. Yolando gives Selena a present of a ring she claims she payed for herself but we know she has stolen the money. We realise now that Yolanda is not all she seems and we discover she has been floundering money from Selenas fans. Abraham and Selena confront her and she denies it. She asks Selena to give her time to prove it. Selena allows this and a few days later meets up with Yolando at a motel and the rest they say is history!
This meeting proved to be the last for Selena as Yolanda shot the singer in a motel room. Suddenly the movie changes to actual news footage of the reporting of the shooting. Then we follow Selena to the hospital and in a pointant moment, the camera only focuses on Selenas hand and we see shes clutching something...the ring given to her by Yolanda...she drops it to the floor. We see the doctor deliver the news of Selenas death to her family and Chris and as a viewer you get a lump in your throat. The director cleverly mutes the sound so you can not hear the doctor or the crys of Selenas family but you just simply see the emotion and pain in their face and body language.
Then the song 'Dreaming Of You' by Selena begins with its dreamy melody and pure lyrics. We see her on stage in a white dress looking like an angel with footage of her fans in a memorial for her, holding pictures and lighting candles in tribute to a wonderful woman.
This is a real tear-jerker and Jennifer Lopez gives an excellent portrayal of Selena. I had not heard of Selena but now i do and i can honestly say i will never forget her!!!
Titanic (1997)
The Most Romantic Movie Of All Time
I love this movie so much and it has a special place in my heart for personal reasons. James Cameron is a superb director with focus and determination that no one can match. Leonardo Dicaprio brings Hollywood glamour without taking any focus from Kate Winslet who shines through. The chemistry between the two is powerful and as a viewer you are sucked in to their world and you really feel for them as a couple and as individuals. the movie is packed full of special effects and credit must also be given to the supporting actors such as Billy Zane as Cal and the wonderful Kathy Bates as Molly Brown. The action scenes are extremely powerful and the love scenes are so moving they reduce a grown man to tears.
The whole movie is captivating, Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio bring a sense of class to the movie, while James Cameron brings experience. You can tell James Cameron has done his homework on the Titanics history as every little detail has been inserted in to the film. Probably the most detail was put in to the dining room in the upper class suites.
This movie is a most have for any movie goer and has to be in everybody's collection. It is a movie that will definitely stand the test of time.
Loved It!!!
Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica (2003)
Excellent
As you can tell by my name I am a huge Jessica Simpson fan and as far as I'm concerned she can do no wrong, so when i heard she was doing her own reality show i was so excited.
Jessica and Nick Lachey (although unfortunately no longer together) are a perfect couple and they really play on the 'cute couple thing' Jessica also plays the part of 'ditzy blonde' really well, although she isn't really that stupid when you look at how successful shes been.
The series starts with footage of their wedding day, then we move in to their home life and watch them fit in to married life. We witness arguments, kissing and joking together. The series moves on and we meet both their families including Jess's sister Ashlee (also has her own reality TV show). Last series show Jess and Daisy May (her dog Nick bought her for her birthday) moving down south to play the part of Daisy Duke in the Dukes of Hazzard movie.
I would definitely recommend this box set to any one especially Jessica Simpson fans ... its a must have!!!
The Hole (2001)
A Disappointment
I really thought i'd enjoy this movie but as it continued I found myself losing interest.
There was no suspense to keep me glued to my TV.
I love Laurence Fox and Keira Knightly and they both gave good performances.
I was disappointed in the movie as a whole.
Although on a positive note... you do get to see Laurence Fox naked in the shower.
I wouldn't recommend to someone looking for a good scary movie but i would to all Keira Knightly fans.
Grease 2 (1982)
Nothing Like The First
People tend to dislike this movie because it doesn't live up to the first but i really like it.
Why would the makers want to do an exact copy of the first grease movie anyway? Olivia Newton John and John Travolta were excellent but Michelle Phiffer makes this movie her own.
It has the same format as the first with the pink ladies and the T-Birds but this movie is more intense than the first.
The movie involves a love triangle between Michelle Phiffer, the leader of the T-Birds and a new student from England.
The soundtrack is not as good as Grease 1 but the songs are catchy and you will find yourself singing along.
I would recommend this movie to any Michelle Phiffer fans and Grease 1 fans...at least give it a chance!!!
Dirty Dancing (1987)
A movie For Life
I love this movie so much I' ve watched it over 100 times.
"Nobody puts baby in the corner", it has you hooked straight away.
Patrick Swayze is a dancing god, while Jennifer Grey is the sweet but not so innocent Baby.
Good cast, excellent dancing and amazing ending.
A real girlie movie and I promise you will love it.
And the soundtrack is superb too...you've all heard 'I've had the time of my life' such a good track and it sums up the whole movie in that one song.
I definitely recommended this movie...
but be warned, watch it once and you'll watch it again and again and again.
A magical movie to the tune of the tango.
