Frasier (2023– )
4/10
Disappointing Beginning. But I'm Hopeful it Gets Better!
12 October 2023
I'm not sure what I was expecting here. I watch the old Frasier daily on Cozi TV and even have the series on DVD somewhere or another. So I would say that I'm a fan of the old series. But the new episodes that just dropped were disappointments. Too many attempts at funny moments that really weren't funny. Too many sight gags that haven't been funny in ages. And the exaggerated laugh track just didn't age well. It was fine in the old series. But no current day shows still add laugh tracks and they should have understood there was a reason for that. I do think the series has the opportunity for growth and I'll definitely be watching future episodes. But I'm not sure it's going to get there. This may end up as just something for superfans to watch. And I'm a fan. But I'm not a superfan.

Didn't Hold Up To The Test of Time!
9 October 2023
I remember watching this series during my high-school years (1980s) with my parents and enjoying it. But it didn't hold up well to the test of time.

I've watched a few episodes recently on the oldies channel and it's like watching a high-school level stage production. Angela Lansbury is good. But most of the other characters are just amateurish and subpar. I can't even watch an entire episode anymore because of it.

I guess it's just one of those shows that's changed as we grow intellectually. Because so much of it just seems silly by todays standards. I have to say that I'm disappointed with this series now.

Wow! This is bad!
6 March 2023
I loved the old flipping show with his ex-wife. But this one just sucks! They spend more time kissing and Tweeting for publicity than working on the flip. And I don't need to see their 'feel the baby' game every five minutes. I was just highly disappointed.

And the wife. She's supposed to be a realtor but she's totally clueless about how much it costs to renovate houses. How is that possible? I think we've been lied to on this.

And multi-million dollar flips? I want to see homes that I could aspire to own one day. I don't want to see a $2+ Million dollar home that they're fixing up to sell for $3+ Million. Regular people can barely cover the bills and buy groceries these days. I think it was just the wrong time to do a flipping show catering to Millionaires.

One of the Top 10 most Epic High-School Party Movies!
22 February 2023
I first watched this when it came out a decade ago and I've probably watched it a dozen times since.

I finished high-school in the 1980s and this brings some of the old memories. No, we never had any parties this outrageous. But I think I would have enjoyed going to this one, if it had been real. What high-school kid wouldn't have?

It's basically about three losers trying to have a cool party. And they pull it off in epic style. Great acting. If you didn't know better, you would actually believe these were all high-school kids. And it's got a great soundtrack too. I would recommend this one to anyone and everyone!

Storage Wars: Texas (2011–2014)

Ridiculous Show!
16 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I just found this oldie series online and started watching it again. I loved the old Storage Wars. But this is just a low class version.

We have the two hotties who really aren't past the midway point on the old one to ten chart. Then we have trailer park Lisa who can't pronounce her sidekicks name (it's Jerry, not Jewee). She always try to act like a bigshot. But we also see her talking about how her business is so bad that she's worried about paying the power bill.

Then we have the guys. Most are somewhat likeable. But there's a pot-bellied Kenny Rogers look alike (Kenny) who always runs his mouth and tries to bully everyone. One day he gets to close in someone's face with the bullying and the guy pushes him away. What does Kenny do? Does he show he can back up his tough words? No! He runs to his truck like a scared rat and comes back with a club that he hits the guy with. What a joke! Tough guys don't need sticks against unarmed men they were trying to bully. Jokes do!

Basically, after fast forwarding past the stupid parts, you have a ten to fifteen minute show. Not recommended!

Ice Cold Catch (2022– )

Really Enjoyable!
24 January 2023
I found this online and I'm loving it. It reminds me of Deadliest Catch in the earlier years before it became nonstop drama.

Basically, it's two ships that each bring a greenhorn (new/inexperienced) worker onboard for a three week trial. If they pass the trial period, they get offered a full time job. And the pay is three to five thousand dollars weekly (the crew gets a share of what the catch sells for).

They're friendly folks doing hard work. It's not for everyone. Some will pass and some will fail. But it's really enjoyable watching everyone work together and just trying to earn their living. I would highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys outdoors types of programs.

One of the best Coming of Age movies!
15 January 2023
I remember watching this one when it first came out in 2004. The later on buying the VHS of it, or maybe the DVD if they were out by then. I wanted it for the collection because it was such a great movie.

You had three middle of the road kids. They weren't geeks. But they weren't in the popular crowd either. And then a porn actress moves in next door to one of them and they start dating.

Hijinks ensue when one of the friends recognizes who she is and shows her boyfriend who then takes their advice and treats her poorly because of her porn past. But he realized his mistake nearly as soon as he made it and he won her back and they end up doing something incredible.

Those three became who every high school seniors at the time wanted to be. They became legends. The kids who incoming classes remember and talk about for ages.

It was truly a great movie and I still get it out every year or two to watch! {I upgraded to the Bluray a few years back}

Fear Itself: New Year's Day (2008)
Season 1, Episode 6
1/10
Really Bad!
14 January 2023
I just re-found this old series and this is my second episode to watch. It's about the worst zombie short I've ever seen. There was no storyline. It was just scene cuts from the living to the undead, one after another.

How did this get through the previews at the studio and onto the air? How did anyone think this was good enough to air?

I'm rating it a one-star. And I don't think I've ever rated anything so lowly. There was just nothing here of redeeming quality. Just one random scene after another.

If you're into zombie flicks and thinking about watching this, take my advice and pick something else. I wish I would have. Now there's a lost hour that I'll never get back.

Au Pair Girls (1972)

Basically, this is 1970's Softcore!
12 January 2023
I downloaded this because of the George Harrison angle (it was filmed on his estate). And I think I was expecting more of a playful cheesecake type of film. Not one that had full frontal stuff in it. And had it often.

So, it was different from what I was expecting. But it wasn't bad. There was sort of a plot, or multiple plot arcs. And who doesn't enjoy watching a movie with four attractive college aged ladies from a simpler time (1970s) doing full frontal?

I'm surprised that I'm rating a nudie film a seven, to be honest. I've only reviewed three or four of them before and never one this highly. But this was enjoyable. And I'll probably watch it again.

Boring and unbelievable slow paced!
11 January 2023
I love Genie/Jinn movies. But this one was horrible! It was like watching paint dry.

To begin with, it took me three sittings to get through it. The story wasn't there for a feature length movie. This would have probably made a good hour long 'made for TV' type of show. But there just wasn't enough material there for a movie.

There was some redeeming stuff in there. I liked the interaction between the lady and the genie, at least somewhat. And I liked the couple interactions they showed towards the end with the visits. But it was just too little and too late.

Sometimes you have to wonder how some movies get produced. And this is one of those movies you wonder that about.

Really good low budget renovation show!
6 January 2023
I didn't expect to like this one when I started watching the first episode months ago. Each episode begins with the guy telling us all of his past jobs. And he's pretty much a 'Jack of all trades, master of none' type of guy. Which is a big negative.

But once I got past that, it's a pretty enjoyable show. Yes, the crew he works with is a little goofy. They spend $500 repurposing some old junk when a new item could be purchased for less. But they're likeable and entertaining. And I'm watching for entertainment!

I also like how the guy gets each partner to give up something they want to spend the money on something their partner wants (with couples). That kind of brings a little 'Gift of the Magi' to it and warms the heart. And that makes it more enjoyable. Because life shouldn't always be about me, me, me.

Secret Restoration (2022– )

Kind of Disappointing Amateur Restorations!
23 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched a few episodes and I expected more from the "nation's top restorers and craftsmen" description.

It's basically amateurs who have to go to the experts on anything that isn't really easy to figure out. Like replacing an old camera bellows. I've replaced those before with old parts I found online. They had to go to the Eastman Museum to get theirs replaced.

Then there was the old family heirloom seaman's trunk with great old patinated copper on it. What did they do? They restored it by polishing off every bit of the patina and making it shiny and new. No professional would do that! It was sickening to watch!

It's an okay show to watch. But don't think for a minute that they know what they're doing.

UPDATE: I just watched an episode I had missed earlier where they ruined a $20,000 cannon from the 1800s by going to work on it with grinders and welding patches over rusted areas (like Billy Bob does on his pickup truck). Their onscreen valuation was $200 in its original state and $46,000 after they ruined it. Please, they turned a $20k item into a $1500 piece of yard art. These guys are clueless! Watching they destroy that piece of history made me sick to my stomach!

I was disappointed!
23 December 2022
I liked the promo when I saw it. It seemed like a good story. And I've been watching the Tulsa series that has Stallone on my mind. So I thought why not give this a watch?

But I was disappointed! The writing was subpar and 80-90% of the movie was just old man stuff. You know, old man aches and pains. Stallone digging through the trash to finds repairable items that he could sell at the pawn shop. Not what I want to watch a superhero movie for.

I did like the little kids character. The interaction between him and his one friend and between him and Stallone were really the only enjoyable parts of the movie. But, in the end, the movie was just disappointing. The writing was just a mess.

Very Disappointing!
14 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was really hopeful and looking forward to this six-episode series. Tim Allen has had a bad year and I was hoping this would be his first step on a comeback. But this was just sad and disappointing!

The season started out okay'ish. It could have gone either way. Then episode three got here with the elves displaying the "We Love You Satan" sign which was played off as a joke. But it's not a joke to include things like that in a program that's aimed at children. And things went downhill from there.

I did kind of like the last couple of episodes where they showed that getting everything you want every day takes away any specialness of giving. But I just couldn't get past the bad messages that the series was peppered with. And there were quite a few. I can't recommend this program. It's just not a wholesome or family oriented program and I'm disappointed in Tim Allen.

I didn't expect to like this. But I Love It!
5 December 2022
I have to admit that I didn't expect to like this show when it first started airing. It just seemed like a generic ripoff of Antiques Roadshow. And, it kind of is. But it really enjoyable.

Each week they're in a different city with different appraisers looking at various items. Some things they make offers on. Some things they don't. But it's all pretty interesting.

Then you have the little 'let's check out the city' trips where they go to local restaurants or other establishments. So you get to see a lot of different sights.

I have to say that I really enjoy it and look forward to each weeks new episode!

Pretty Enjoyable Series!
20 November 2022
I didn't expect to like this when I watched the first episode last week because I'm not really a Stallone fan. Let's face it, his fame is from playing dumb angry guys and it's a different world we live in these days.

But I've been pleasantly surprised here. I've watched the first two episodes now and they're well thought out and well carried out.

I like the modern angles that they've thrown in, like the weed farm. And I also like that they didn't make Stallone's character woke which seems to be the trend in television these days.

I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing how the season plays out!

EDIT: I just finished watching Episode 6. They're convoluting the story with too much family drama. Sometimes less is more and we don't need the plot going in a dozen different directions. I'm removing a star from my original rating because it's making the episodes slightly less enjoyable. If I wanted family drama, I'd watch a sitcom.

Very Well Thought out Episodes!
27 October 2022
I don't really know who this del Toro guy is. So I don't know what I was expecting when I started watching these. But they're really good and thought out episodes.

The stories are good, as is the acting. And that's something that's unusual these days. The special effects are even really well done.

I did notice the recycled story in episode two (about the rats). That's an old Hammer House of Horror story. Are any of these original stories? I'm really not sure. But they are enjoyable. And sometimes old stories need to be updated for the younger generation.

I would give this series Two Thumbs Up and tell people who love the Genre to give it a watch if they haven't already!

One of the worst of the Genre!
25 October 2022
I found this oldie online recently and quickly realized why it only got one season. HBO tried to make a highly sexualized version of Tales From The Crypt and failed spectacularly.

Each episode begins with a (mostly) naked female android dominatrix in a building marked SEX who's going over various ramblings. Which kind of takes away any meaningfulness the episode may have.

The episodes themselves aren't exactly bad. But they can be so convoluted as to lose your place as far as what's happening. Several episodes are even to the point of me thinking 'is that it' when they end. Because there was no finality.

Anyways, if you're into Sci-Fi stuff, give it a watch and see what you think. But for me, it's a big thumbs Down!

Really Scummy Pawn Brokers!
20 October 2022
I found this program online recently and watched a half dozen or so episodes.

It was just horrible the way they scammed their customers. They would do everything they could to make the item seem worthless so they could offer next to nothing for it. And even when they called in experts to tell them what something was worth. They would immediately ignore what the experts said it was worth and offer ten to twenty percent of its true value.

Like some war hero memorabilia. The expert said it would be a quick sell at 25,000. So they offered the girl 5,000 and acted like they were doing her a favor.

Just horrible people taking advantage at every turn.

The Munsters (2022)

Really Disappointing Movie!
27 September 2022
I was really hopeful when I heard about the remake. I mean, it's got Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) in it. Who doesn't love her?

But the script was horrible! There's no humor in it. It's like an exaggerated spoof with no respect to the original material.

I'm just dumbfounded that this movie ever got produced. I can't even like the characters because they're nothing like the ones I grew up watching. The Munsters were always about the comedy. But there were only like three times during the entire movie that even made me crack a smile.

I'm giving this movie a four star rating. And, honestly, I think I'm being generous doing that. Give it a watch and see what you think!

If you grew up in the 1980s, you'll love it!
27 September 2022
I found this online and I thought I would get a laugh or two out of it. I like some of Jamie Kennedy's stuff and this seemed like an interesting premise.

I didn't expect anything meaningful from it. Just a few laughs. Then I got to watching it and it turned out to be really good. It told a story that many of us went through in high school. Did anyone reading this go to school where some bully wasn't terrorizing someone they knew? It's a relevant movie. And there a love connection that goes back twenty years.

It was a pretty good movie! If you have fond memories of. Breakin, Beat Street, Krush Groove and other hip-hop movies from the 80's, then watch this one if you can find it. You won't be disappointed!

Shark Tank: Shark Tank LIVE! (2022)
Season 14, Episode 1
1/10
Terrible and Poorly Thought Out!
26 September 2022
I've been watching Shark Tank since the very first episode and have enjoyed nearly every episode (some more than others). But the live show was horrible!

The sharks were all talking over each other unintelligently and the audience was yelling and clapping to the point of distracting the people as they tried to present their pitches.

And the announcer made it feel like The Price Is Right show.

I was horrified and started to change the channel several times. I can honestly say that if this is the new normal for Shark Tank, I won't be watching this season. It was too much of a circus. Hopefully it was just a one time thing.

Teenage Cavegirl (2004 Video)

Not Much of a Plot!
26 September 2022
Not really what I expected from the name and picture on the cover. It was less about a teenage cavegirl and more about softcore porn.

The cavegirl from 1,000,000 BC had modern tattoos and she and her mate both had commercially made leather outfits. At least cover the tattoos if you're going to give it a prehistoric theme and have a seamstress make the outfits.

But it was an okay movie for what it was. It was interesting enough for what it was and I watched it all the way through. The dinosaurs and UFO were a nice touch. Not something you would normally see in this genre of films. I guess I would recommend it. It's better than most as far as softcore porn goes.

Quantum Leap (2022–2024)

Very Disappointing!
21 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of the original series. I watched it when it was fresh and new and waited with anticipation for each weekly episode. And I got all excited when I heard there was going to be a reboot. But this was ridiculous!

There was the cheesy 'Secret Government Facility' that looked like something out of a 1970's b-movie. Poor lines and poor acting. The 1985 sets didn't look like 1985. It was just a huge letdown. And I won't even go into the things going on in a supposed secret government lab.

And why was two-thirds of the show spent on the unimportant party scene and unrealistic government lab instead of the guy who was leaping?

And the hologram woman that was just a regular woman and didn't look like a hologram. I could have read her lines with more enthusiasm than she did. Talk about poor acting.

I see potential. But it was a very poor beginning!

Big Explorers Club Fan! But The Series is Kind of Boring.
9 September 2022
I'm an old man and have been reading about the Explorers Club since I was a kid. People are still talking/writers are still writing about their legendary 1951 wooly mammoth dinner. But I was bored by the first two episodes. The narrators voice is loud and droning. And, instead of using historic footage, they use modern day footage. It's really disappointing for this huge Explorers Club fan. Hopefully the final two episodes will be better. If it is, I'll come back and update my review. But I'm not expecting it. They're following a pattern with the show and I doubt they'll change it halfway through the season (four episode season). It's an okay watch. That's about it.
