Secret Headquarters (2022)
Great family movie
Fun family movie that all my kids (aged 9-13 years) loved it and it had enough to keep the adults entertained with some genuinely funny moments throughout. Joe Peña is always a good laugh- in fact all the performances were good and the characters were all likeable which is rare these days. To be honest I wasn't expecting much and it turned out to be a lot better script and production than I expected. Better than most for this type of movie and audience. We would watch it again and hope they do a second as there isn't a lot of decent PG movies that are good for the whole family in this sci-fi/superhero genre.
Koma (2019)
Stunning surrealism
Loved the Escher-esque visuals of this world. So many beautifully crafted surrealist landscapes. A completely different and unique concept and a plot strong enough to support the world building and stunning visuals. Characters are relatively light on but there's enough here for an enjoyable watch.
2067 (2020)
Acut above the standard B grade Hollywood sci-fi
Nice neat little low budget sci-fi- Great cast and great performances helped to pull it off nicely. Not a sci-fi to sit and think deeply about or be wowed by but definitely a cut above the standard B grade Hollywood sci-fi. I think it would have struggled with a lesser cast but the actors did a lot with what they had making it an enjoyable watch.
Source Code (2011)
Perfectly executed
Love this movie. Great solid idea that was perfectly executed with a tight script and excellent performances. Love the pace of the reveals and the ending was satisfying
Extinction (2018)
Brilliant sci-fi
Have watched this twice now and it's certainly one of the better- I would even say best- sci-fi offerings from Netflix. Clever script, tense action, great cast and brilliant twist. Perfect little film with solid idea, executed perfectly and for once a satisfying end. Don't let the negative reviews stop you from experiencing this rate gem.
Alex Rider (2020)
Great series with mad sound track
Loved it. My son loves the novels so thought we'd watch it together- I was expecting it to be a bit Cody Banks teeny bit it's nothing like that thankfully. Well written, well produced, great cast and fantastic sound track- can't wait for the next series.
A. I. Tales (2019)
Nice tight little shorts
First 4 were great little shorts. Tightly scripted and well acted and kept me engaged. The fifth let the others down with poor script direction and acting.
Battleship (2012)
Satisfying aliens and great lead actor
I love this movie and it's one of my all time faves. One of the best introductions to a character I've ever seen. Taylor Kitsch is a fantastic lead and great fun to watch. I loved the aliens and I loved the alien tech (the spinny ball things are epic). The whole battleship somehow still being usable was a stretch but hey it's sci-fi- we know it ain't real life and why let that get in the way of a good story? Love the chicken burrito
The Meg (2018)
Surprisingly enjoyable, iconic scenes, satisfying deaths
I didn't expect much but I really enjoyed this film and have watched it three times now and still enjoy it. There were some great iconic scenes like the little girl facing the Meg and the guy running from the Meg in an inflatable ball. The ending and how they defeat the Meg was really satisfying to watch and the best end I've seen in this genre. In fact all the deaths were good deaths.
