Dave: Met Gala (2023)
Show me another show that can pull this kind of star power.
I mean my god. So nonchalantly pulling like some of the biggest stars of our generation to be in the 8th episode of the third season about a white rapper named Lil Dicky. Literally it's insane. The quality hasn't dropped at all either. You really have no idea what's gonna happen or what to expect because of how good the writing is with this show. Some pretty hilarious moments in this one assl well. Like what was even with some of those interactions 😂? All I know is I'm still super into it. And I can't wait to see what the rest of this season has in store for us. And I also wonder if it will be the last one?
Dave: The Storm (2023)
I hope Dave knows people appreciate this show
Straight up as my title says. I feel like Dave is crafting something so special, it is probably some of my favorite television work hands down. And it pains me to see this show getting absolutely no attention. A truly thankless job. But i really hope he know that this piece of art resonates with some people including myself to such a deep extent.
This show is SO much smarter than it appears to be. This episode is a perfect example. I would bet most casual viewers wouldnt notice a couple hints thrown out in this episode. When they first get to the house one of the decorations is the Serenity prayer widely known by its use in AA type meetings. And then the son mentions really quickly a meeting with his boys and then it is never sddresed again. But then Gata comes out as a sex adict and look how quikly the mother was to console him.
This episde really hit home for me in so many different ways. Hats off to you Dave.
Stranger Things: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)
Sigh. Literally just have to turn brain off.
About halfway through S4 I realized I truly will not enjoy it if I keep thinking criticality about what the characters are saying and doing lol. So many damn plot holes and god the scrip is just AWFUL at most times. Nice visuals, good music, good popcorn stuff. But man it falls into so many classic cop outs and cheesy stuff.
The main annoyance is that the show constantly stops following the rules IT set in place. All we hear is about how it's all a hive mind, hive mind, and you can't step on the vines. But when it comes time for Eddie and Dustin to do the distraction... A guitar solo? Really? Instead of just chopping some of the vines around? Also how does Dustin's leg get hurt from the distance of a trailer roof to a trailer floor? That's like 8 feet lol. Max being brought back is weak sauce. Especially when I was SHOOK watching her legs and arms get broke. I was like damn they really did it. Nope. And then the 2 days later thing? Jesus if you can't keep good pacing with a 2 and a half hour long episode then clearly something is not right. Idk.
Shut your brain off and it's okay. In my opinion season 1 was just too perfect to continue.
How I Met Your Mother: Spoiler Alert (2007)
Man this episode just blew my mind.
Holy crap! I'm currently watching this series for my second time ever. My first was when I was a junior in highschool and still very much a child. I also binged through it HARD which has led to me not remembering hardly anything about the show.
I'm 26 now and am gaining a brand new mega appreciation for this show! It's insane how great the writing is!! I had to hop on here and drop a review because wow, this episode did a lot for me. It mad me laugh so hard, but it also has such a consice and excellenty executed message.
I'm really glad this show exists. It is so refreshing to watch in this new age of television we have found ourselves in. HIMYM for life!!!
Neko no ongaeshi (2002)
Wonderful
I'm currently in the middle of watching every Ghibli film in release order. It has been such a wonderful ride, getting to discover gems outside of the main stream ones I had seen a million times. Films like Only Yesterday, Whisper of the Heart, and now The Cat Returns have absolutely stolen my heart.
This is such an incredible film!! I was blown away by the animation and sound design pretty much the whole way through. It was so wonderfully cinematic. Can't recommend this one enough. There are so many scenes that made me feel like there's no way it's from the year it's from. It seems like it was made recently, that's how well it holds up. Can't wait to continue to see what Ghibli has in store for me.
Umi ga kikoeru (1993)
Not a "Mind Melting Spectacle" that Ghibli is sometimes known for, but amazing nonetheless.
And definitely doesn't deserve just a 6.6! It may be a little uneventful but I feel like the people rating it low must be salty about their high school love life haha! All jokes aside though, it is a really nice film. Beautifuly depicts the complications of high school love and friendships with a very satisfying conclusion. Not mad at all I spent the time to watch it. Classic Ghibli goodness.
Omohide poro poro (1991)
Just left this grown man in shambles, crying my eyes out
So recently I decided I was going to watch all the Studio Ghibli films in release order, as I had really only ever seen the big 3 or 4. But of course those are some of my favorite films of all time. Didn't expect much from this one because we are so trained to expect the Miyazaki films to be the best ones.
Oh boy. This film is simply phenomenal. Not since Kimi No Na Wa have I experienced such visceral emotion from an anime. Such a beautiful, tasteful, deep dive into the mind of a single late 20 something woman. I related to this character so much being 26, and in a very similar situation ( even though I'm a man). No spoilers but that ending scene absolutely ripped me apart. It's such a nostalgic heart wringer and TOTALLY under appreciated. And do yourself a favor, as always, WATCH IT IN THE JAPANESE SUB VERSION.
Jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy (2022)
Phenomenal
Simply amazing. As someone who has been a Kanye fan since I was in middle school in 2009 this is such a treat. Can't even believe the footage that is in these episodes. I seriously can't wait to see the 3rd one tonight. Shout out to Ye. Shout out to Coodie.
Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous: Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous (No, Really) (2013)
Okay that's just not fair.
Leave it to Bo to ruin me like that.... Jesus. I feel attacked by this episode lol. That was just mean. To have me smiling the biggest smile ever as they walked outside as a happy couple and then HER FACE IM THE FINAL SHOT. ARE YOU KIDDING?? HAHSKDLFM.
Bo Burnham: Inside (2021)
I don't think a piece of art has ever had the impact that this just had on me.
There are no words. Or if there are, I havnt found them yet. I hope you are well, Bo. Just know that you are not alone and there are people out there that heard every word you said, and saw everything you showed.
