The Nun (2018)
The Strangler Nun
I am really surprised not to see any reviews mentioning the same.
We watched this in cinema with two of my horror fan friends. Our hopes were too high, obviously. This entity referred to as 'Nun' didn't manage to kill anyone. She appeared randomly, grabbed each character's neck, strangelled them a bit, then disappeared.
I am shocked to hear that 'Nun II' is coming out this fall. I hope at least Father Burke returns - he's literally dubbed as 'Leather Pants' (=Bõrgatya / Burke Atya) in Hungarian. If for any reason, this is why it was worth it to watch this movie.
All in all, I think it's a funny idea to watch this with friends. Especially in Hungary.
Pieces of Her (2022)
Worst Possible Choice for Young Toni Collette
It was really disappointing to see in how many ways the young version does not resemble to the main character. The voice of the girl from the flashbacks is absolutely nothing like Toni Collette's, not to mention their face (the young girl has a super round face structure which just cannot change that much while growing up). This was a big missed opportunity which was irritating the whole way along the series. Sometimes I even forgot who the young girl is. Seemed like a totally different character and was hard to connect to the story in the present.
All in all, I liked the storyline but the only good actor for me was the mother. The first episode convinced me to start watching but it became harder and harder to continue.
Gossip Girl (2021)
Not a Very Good Try (...to modernize the old version)
I was definitely expecting something more thought through with a well scripted story line at least. I knew the actors will be amateurs so didn't have high expectations there. Unfortunately there is no intriguing story and the whole thing is super unrealistic, even compared to the old version if the series - which is a strong statement I guess!
The teachers at school look exactly the same age as the students; same goes for the student's parents. I know this has a reason, they wanted to present them as sexy characters with supposedly romantic affairs coming up later on, but still - I think it is a big fail that you cannot even distinguish who the student and who the teacher is... (some student characters actually look way older than teachers).
All in all I cannot really find anything that makes this worth watching. Sometimes I just play it to have some noise in the room while I'm working. :D.
The Kissing Booth (2018)
The biggest cliche-based teen movie of the century
Super unrealistic and full of cliches. Actually they managed to squeez in all the lies and misconcepts that have ever been invented on teenage life. The main character is so lucky, everything always works out for her: literally EVERYONE loves he and are obsessed with her. Why? Because of her gnome face or chubby body? Could it be her boring personality or lack of intellgence? Mystery... but all the hot, popular, muscular guys are into her and she even managed to build a platoic best friendship with a guy. There is no drama during the whole movie, Elle's 'problems' are simply so ridiculous and banal and somehow EVERYTHING ALWAYS works out for her. WOW. Will never happen in real life and I am honestly sad for those kids who fall for this bull*hit. :(
