The Gods 2: The Dark Side (2023)
A solid sequel
This film has a grit and raw feel that was captured well in every performance. The plot moves well and the action is fast paced. I had a chance to catch the original The Gods, and the relationships established in the first really set this movie up nicely. I found myself actually caring about the characters, which good writing will do. From the outset of the start, the film moves nicely and doesn't let up. A definite popcorn flick as they're described. Mykel Jenkins is a tour de force of intensity and strength. If you're into gritty, character-driven action movies, then this is a must watch for you.
Death in Texas (2020)
Great Action and Solid Movie
This movie is a great ride from start to finish. And I have to say that Bruce Dern delivers some lines in this movie as the main villain that are legendary. Stephan Lang also has a genuine performance and his relationship with Lara Flynn Boyle is really flushed out with a pacing that allows you to track the emotional journey of each character. Ronnie Blevins, as Billy, is a great cross between a Giovanni Ribisi edge, and a Sam Rockwell unpredictability. The story paces itself extremely well and you leave with some great performances and well-crafted tension. Well done on the writing and directing.
Eagle Eye (2008)
No One Can Top This Film
Honestly, if you say anything wrong about this film, you have no idea what a review really is. You know that moment when a movie ends and everyone leaves, and no one's talking, and just goes home, I.E. Daredevil, or some such film, OKay, now completely reverse that for this film. Everyone was continuously talking about the pace, casting, directing, and edge of your seat film-making that MAKING a film is truly about.
If you go to see movies to be completely enthralled, see this MOVIE. You had to imagine what this was like to read as a script. And just picture the actors continuously flipping through trying to find out what happens next; the same that happened to the audience during this film. Shia is on a whole different level of choices and talent. And frankly for young Hollywood (under 30), there isn't anyone who is taking risks. Or at least no one in the spotlight yet.
It's my job to see movies, I consider them art - no matter what I see. So I commend all the filmmakers attached to this project. Great job. Don't let anyone tell you different.
