A Question of Faith (2017)
Good family movie , too bad anti-Christians have given bad reviews
When looking at IMDB just be aware that many good Christian movies are heavily given one star ratings in order for the movies to appear so-so in the ratings. I would recommend judging on your own since this appears to be a concerted effort from those anti-Christian.
We watched this as a family. It may be a little heavy for younger viewers in regards to grief and tragedy. Nothing graphic is shown. It is the situation that may be a bit sullen. Good messages on how one mistake can change your life as well as the difficulty of accepting loss.
The Wall (2017)
We are bad, they are good.
Movies should have disclaimers of being anti-American or indoctrination. You get a sense here and there "uh, oh" this must have a "moral message" from those so much more morally righteous friends on the left.
Yes we are the evil invaders. Its unfortunate we have given so much voice to hollywood to spread its hate message of America. Unfortunately the plot (which seemed well acted and promising) turns into a "yes, score one for the Iraqi's to cleanse themselves from the American aggressors".
It's sad to see all the sacrifice from all our veterans always being poked and prodded by making our military looked upon as the "evil of the world".
Can we get an alternate universe where we can send our liberal friends to the mideast and see how they fair.
Home Run (2013)
Fantastic Movie with good message on addiction
Not a very preachy movie. Good discussion on addiction. It is a Christian focused movie. The sad thing is that nowadays it seems if someone discovers "Christianity" in a movie it almost like what the "explicit" or "for mature audiences" only labels were supposed to do - keep people away. I enjoy watching eastern philosophy, Hindu, whatever that has a good message. It shows we all struggle and search for ways to overcome. How the influence of others can change us for the better. Sure this movie shows how Christianity can influence us for the better but also shows how understanding that others need us to become better pushes us to become that better person. Addiction can be very difficult and lonely as you spiral out of control. The character in the movie has certain capital he can expend being a famous baseball player allows him to "pay his way" out of several situations but it does show how others with addiction can have their complete lives destroyed.
I'm Not Ashamed (2016)
Good movie based on Rachel's journals
I am not really a church goer but it is very interesting the adverse reaction some have to Christianity in a movie. It's like that reaction vampires have in movies to the cross or holy water. I found the movie enjoyable and inspiration yet so tragic. My daughter could relate to similar struggles in school and the dynamics. What seems evil (or dysfunctional if you would like to use a secular term) is that individuals like Rachel are the "fascists" in the world we live in, whereas groups like Antifa at Berkeley are the new solution. The movie does have some drinking and smoking in it and some sexual situations but nothing R rated. I would watch this with a teen, it may be a bit much for a ten year old depending on your viewpoints.
What If... (2010)
Nice "It's a wonderful life" story
I don't mind that this movie is similar to other "it's a wonderful life" stories. Sometimes we need a reminder of the same lesson with a different person telling the same story. It may be a bit predictable but is good to watch with the family. I would watch it with older children over 10, to get the message. Some Christian movies may not win academy awards but it is much the same reason why we still go watch a play. A play will never win for props but you go to enjoy the story. Its nice to see Cliff and Hercules acting in Christian movies. It's interesting to see how many people "hate" Christian movie messages. I am happy to see that Netflix carries these movies as they are difficult to find at the local video store which does carry new release Christian movies but not some of the older ones.
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
katherine hepburn annoying
In the first minutes of the movie, Hepburn takes Grant's car and acts like someone rich, entitled and spoiled. She can take whatever she wants and acts any way she wants. If you find this funny then this film is for you. This film originally flopped and you can easily see why. I believe it became popular later only because Hepburn was a strong liberal and so any work needed to be classified as "fantastic". Someone can mention it was ranked in the top 100 all time, but ask yourself who created the rankings. Experts with a bias. Cary Grant does show why he is fabulous. He plays the professor perfectly. Very believable as a "nerdy" type. Yet he plays such suave roles in other movies.
Golden Shoes (2015)
nice family movie
Nice movie about dealing with adversity and never giving up. His dad is away fighting for our country and his mom ends up in the hospital after finding out her husband is MIA. He is then in temporary custody by Frank, their neighbor and sponsor for the team. Frank is highly controlling and does not allow Christian to visit his mom in the hospital. Frank even tells Christian to "toughen" up that he will see his mother soon enough. Eric Roberts does a great job at playing the bad guy. If you do not like traditional messages or want Shakespearean acting then this movie is not for you. If you want a simple movie to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon then this is for you.
