Isanghan byeonhosa Woo Young-woo: Holding Hands Can Wait (2022)
Nonsesnical legal stories continue
It is so sad to observe so much great work and results due to talent of main actress, supporting cast at legal firm, cinematographer and director, and yet so little effort in choosing the background legal story.
I had to fast forward multiple times to get to the good pieces of this episode, since it becomes too tedious otherwise.
Isanghan byeonhosa Woo Young-woo (2022)
Truly outstanding acting and life perspective for main character. The rest, not so much
And excellent depiction on her different perspective on life, including the whale stories
However, the legal/life stories in each episode (3 so far) are rather simplistic, appear more like a filler, and are quite predictable.
So 9 for acting of main character, 7 for acting for the other characters, 5 for the legal/life stories. The final rating is 7.
Episodes 2 and 4 are best examples of low quality of the legal/life stories. Both episodes continue to add to the very interesting background story for the main character, while actual legal case is based on gimmicks and appears to be created only for Attorney Woo to be able to have a different perspective than everybody (because she has Autism Spectrum Disorder, get it?), and win.
It is sad to see the writers making so much effort on very impressive depiction of Woo's actions and interactions, and so little effort while creating legal cases .
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Quite good; except for the woke scenes
Good script, good acting and filming. While slightly changed compared to the book, most of the changes are improving the story and/or provide different perspectives.
Main negative comment: from my perspective this TV series focuses too much on woke-type scenes which add almost nothing to the story.
Severance: The You You Are (2022)
Slow and boring
Two quotes from this episode exemplify well my feelings towards this TV series:
"It is important and mysterious work" (platitudes to describe the script)
"I could not, with a razor to my throat, be less interested"
Severance: In Perpetuity (2022)
Story is getting worse
It is almost like screenwriter thought "let's find out how much nonsense we can incorporate into the script until the viewers switch the channel"
It continues to be sooooooooooooooooooo slow, and now the minutes are filled with very mundane tasks which are taking 3-5 times more time than necessary.
Severance (2022)
It is amazing how boring this TV show can be
Apparently Apple TV execs believe that a TV show can survive a lack of story just by having "different" visuals. I am sure they also believe that Warhol can labels constitute art because it is "different"
This may be the best example of "style over substance" I have ever seen (and it is NOT a compliment). Very good directing (especially by Stiller), and perhaps some acting, but nothing else.
Perhaps they may want to take a long look at another of their shows, namely Ted Lasso, and see how a good story can make a great show on a low budget
Or, even better, watch 15-20 TV Korean series in last 3-4 years where the plot and acting are phenomenal to actually learn how it should be done.
Ted Lasso: Headspace (2021)
It was not an interesting episode
While it has some good moment, and acting continues to be strong, the plot in this episode was more of a "filler" for the next episodes.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Chain of Command, Part II (1992)
Some of the best acting performances in TNG series, and one of the stupidest plots
So this new captain orders military actions with very limited evidence, and yet this is encouraged by the StarFleet command?
