Alien (1979)
A Sci-Fi Horror Classic
Alien is a groundbreaking sci-fi horror film that set the standard for the genre. It follows a crew of space explorers who encounter a deadly extraterrestrial creature on board their ship. The film creates a claustrophobic and terrifying atmosphere with its dark and gritty visuals, inspired by the concept of cassette futurism. The film also features one of the most iconic and influential female protagonists in cinema history, Ellen Ripley, who defies the stereotypes and expectations of her genre and time. Alien is a masterpiece of suspense, terror and innovation that deserves to be seen by every fan of sci-fi and horror.
Vampiry sredney polosy (2021)
Cozy Smolensk
If you love detective stories with a mystical twist and humor, then the series "Central Russia's Vampires" is for you. It's a story about how vampires live in Smolensk, trying not to break their agreement with the guardians and not to kill people. But when bloodless corpses are found in the forest, they have to search for the violator and protect their secret. The series surprises with its cozy atmosphere of a provincial town where everyone knows each other and lives by their own rules. There is romance, intrigue, and fantasy. The actors played their roles perfectly, especially Yuri Stoyanov, who fits perfectly into the role of Grandpa Slava - the oldest and wisest vampire. The series is not boring, but on the contrary, it is engaging and entertaining. I recommend it to everyone who wants to watch something unusual and original.
Joker (2019)
Too much buzz around a movie that doesn't deserve attention
Joker (2019) is a movie that tries to reinvent the iconic Batman villain as a tragic antihero, but fails to deliver a compelling or coherent story. The movie is a loose adaptation of the comic book character, who has no definitive origin or personality. Instead of following the canon, the movie borrows heavily from Martin Scorsese's films, especially Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, but without their depth or insight. The movie follows Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a mentally ill and socially marginalized clown who dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian. He lives with his mother (Frances Conroy) in a grimy and chaotic Gotham City, where he faces constant abuse and humiliation from society. His life takes a dark turn when he kills three Wall Street thugs who attack him on a subway train, sparking a violent uprising among the oppressed masses. He also becomes obsessed with a talk-show host (Robert De Niro) who mocks his failed comedy routine on live TV.
The movie's main strength is Joaquin Phoenix's performance as Arthur Fleck/Joker, which is intense, disturbing, and Oscar-worthy. Phoenix transforms himself physically and emotionally into the role, portraying Fleck's descent into madness with remarkable skill. He makes the character sympathetic at times, but also terrifying and unpredictable. He is the only reason to watch this movie, if you can stomach the graphic violence and disturbing behavior.
The movie's main weakness is its lack of originality and substance. The movie is not only derivative of Scorsese's films, but also of other comic book movies, such as The Dark Knight (2008), which featured a much better version of the Joker played by Heath Ledger. The movie tries to be dark and edgy, but it comes across as shallow and nihilistic. It does not explore any meaningful themes or issues, such as mental illness, social injustice, or morality. It does not offer any insight into the character's motivation or psychology. It does not even make sense within its own logic or timeline. It is a movie that wants to shock and provoke, but it does not have anything to say.
Joker (2019) is a movie that disappoints on many levels. It is not faithful to the comic book source material, nor does it offer a fresh or interesting perspective on it. It is not a well-crafted or engaging story, nor does it have any artistic merit or vision. It is not a movie that deserves any awards or praise, except for Phoenix's performance. It is a movie that should be forgotten as soon as possible.
