Thor: Hammer of the Gods (2009 TV Movie)
Good...for a SciFi movie event
14 April 2009
All things considered, it was a good movie for a SciFi production. As usual, the acting wasn't stellar, but better than some I've seen. And they spared us too many well-intentioned but poorly-executed CGI effects. Although, they could have gone for something more than over-sized wolf's heads with no body hair. It took me a little while during the movie, along with simultaneous googling, Wikipedia'ing, and IMDb'ing, to understand that this was not the telling of the original story, but its retelling. The recycling of some of the names was clever. But now I am wondering about what would happen next in this new storyline. Maybe we'll find out some day.

LazyTown (2002–2014)
How many stars can I give it?
17 March 2005
I would like to give credit to Magnús Scheving for his wonderful work that he's doing for the children, not only of Iceland, but also for the rest of the world. This is a great show, with good values and a captivating way of expressing itself.

This is my son's favorite show (at 2.5 yrs) and asks for it by name. He also often dons the persona of Sporticus when he's playing and acting out his imagination. I can't think of a better role model on children's television.

For those that aren't able to sit through an episode and would like to bad mouth the show, are you the one that is supposed to be watching it? Are you the one that's supposed to be watching Blue or Dora or Calliou? These shows are for your kids. You're job is to make sure that the shows are good for them. Not for you. It's not prime-time material folks. It's children's education (and entertainment).

I'd give Lazytown 5 out of 5, or 10 out of ten, or the max out of the max for as many stars as are available. And that's not just b/c I like the show. But my son does, and he is who really counts.

Way to go Magnús Scheving!!!

I don't know what the critics are talking about...
6 December 2004
As usual, my suspicions of "official" movie critics have proved correct. Before seeing this movie I heard several unfavorable reviews by so-called official critics and commentators. However, I heard even more extremely favorable personal reviews from friends, family and acquaintances. All of them said it was a good, if not great, film. And I have to agree.

This was another blockbuster (as proved by the box-office numbers) with a great cast, excellent special effects, a good believable storyline, and non-stop realistic action. The fast pace moved the film along without letting it flounder on insignificant details, as alluded to by certain reviewers.

One of the greatest negative points by the critics was the poor, or lack of, comedy relief by the quirky sidekick. Wow, I guess they just don't understand what a dry humor is. Or else it's an acquired taste and they have no palate for it, as opposed to the rest of the nation.

Nation Treasure IS a national treasure and will definitely become a treasure in our DVD collection as soon as it becomes available.

My advice to the average Joe consumer: stop giving any credence whatsoever (as I have) to the alleged notable critics and reviewers and go see this movie. Listen to people like yourselves who have seen the movie and not to the liberal-minded, foreign-film-watching, like-to-see-sex-and-drugs-and-immorality-promoted-as-"art" "critics" and make your own decisions about what you choose to see.

Sincerely, -average Joe critic
