Power Book IV: Force (2022)
Excellent show, except LILI SIMMONS so UNCONVINCING!!!!
Absolutely love this show despite the over the top violence, strictly because of JOSEPH SIKORA's phenomenal performance!! Awesome actor, surrounded by other talented actors. The ONLY downside of this show is LILI SIMMON's completely unconvincing attempts at trying to act/be ruthless and threatening. Total joke, she merely comes off as someone PRETENDING to be tough by adapting a stupid walk, ridiculous facial expressions, and goofy vitriol, just plain SILLY!!!! She is so out of her league and it makes her standout, but for the wrong reasons. Wish they would recast, but just my opinion. Otherwise love this storyline.
The Real Housewives of Dubai (2022)
Total WASTE of time, never again!
Completely pointless waste of time, not one trace of authenticity or real moral value in any of the women who do absolutely NOTHING but brag and compete with each other for the title of MOST USELESS HUMAN BEING EVER. Fake hair/wigs, jewelry, pancake makeup, overpriced cars and homes do NOT make you genuine. Barely able to get thru each episode as I was beyond bored and disgusted at the lack of any plot. In today's world of nothing but SERIOUS problems and people suffering, there are so many things their supposed wealth and time could help. Shame on Bravo for this disgraceful, empty, ridiculously STUPID waste of film.
Driveways (2019)
Poignant story
Beautifully written and acted story about loneliness and its many forms. All families have estrangement and unresolved issues that follow us through life. The main story is of an adult woman (and her shy 8-year old son) who must clean out her sister's home after she dies. In doing so, she must contend with the remnants of a life her sister never knew she led. Brian Dennehy is so touching as the lonely widowed neighbor who befriends the lonely child and his mother. Much more to this gem of a movie that serves to highlight so many things about regret, friendships we never would expect, and love it it's endless forms. Extremely touching and poignant movie, definitely a MUST see.
American Sniper (2014)
Only our country is expected to fight wars by RULES!!!!
Regardless of what anyone thinks about this movie as being true or whatever....it showed me one absolute thing for sure: EVERYONE IN WAR GIVES HIS/HER LIFE EVEN IF HE/SHE LIVES. The horrors of war and the things these people must do are inconceivable. They willingly chose to give up their lives to defend our country because their belief in freedom, and what we stand for, means so much. Because they survived, they must carry the never ending burden of war horrors for the rest of their lives. How anyone EVER is able to go back to a 'normal' life to me is impossible after such an experience. Our country should be DEEPLY ashamed that there are commercials airing 24/7 imploring monetary donations to care for our military people who GAVE THEIR LIVES EVEN THOUGH THEY LIVED. Unacceptable, intolerable and completely unnecessary that this situation exists. I thank GOD and these incredible men and women who are charged with doing whatever is necessary in a war we will NEVER win. Anyone can sit back and judge a movie that is simply a director's depiction and interpretation of events, but perhaps people should look beyond that to the deeper story of what is given up so that we can have the right to sit back and judge things most of us never must face.
25th Hour (2002)
Excellent way to tell a story
Edward Norton is one of my favorite actors simply because he does material, like this excellent movie, that is unique in how the story/character unfolds. In this awesome movie, the end is basically hinted at in the very beginning, then the story unfolds in flashbacks. Norton has such an incredible gift for playing characters that seek redemption and this movie is definitely one of those. If you liked American History X for its way of telling a flawed character's story, this movie will not disappoint. Excellent performances by Norton, Hoffman and especially Barry Pepper. Director Spike Lee once again is behind a unique and individual way of telling a story.
