Arthur Christmas (2011)
beautiful,wonderful....THE perfect Christmas movie.
I counted down the days to this film....literally i saw the trailer months before its release and i went a little obsessive watching interviews and making montages and drawing...yeah i'm sad. The reason i did this was because of Arthur. Arthur is the king of Christmas spirit with his reindeer slippers and goofy Christmas jumper..after i saw this film i desperately wanted his slippers and continually said "there's always time for bow" for MONTHS....i must've driven my family insane. I LOVE Christmas. I countdown the seconds to it and wear Christmas skirts and cardys and jumpers and socks and pants and hats and....slippers now :D i got them this year....they jingle!! Its awesome!!! Anyway the idea of a film based around an adult who was SO in ore of Christmas made me ecstatic actually....it's just such a wonderfully inventive idea and it was so flawlessly pulled of.
OK now to the review- "Dear Arthur, what a puzzle." truthfully Arthur is probably the greatest and most selfless animated character of all time. He didn't care about himself.. He faced every single one of his fears and almost dies several times to ensure that Gwen gets the gift and has a great Christmas...its just so sweet and charming. James McAvoy is one of my favourite actors...i loved him in Macbeth the retelling, atonement....he's an incredible actor and his voice in this is perfect, seamless and his laugh...oh his laugh. I couldn't love that nerdy laugh more ;) its adorable.
bryony the elf. "there's always time for a bow." truer words have never been said in a Christmas film. She is an adorable character with such belief and passion and joy and optimism. I loved her.
Grandsanta. Bill Nighy is also one of my favourite actors- about time, love actually even Dr Black in Doctor Who...he's just incredible and his voice fits seamlessly with grandsanta. Grandsanta is the Santa that lost his sleigh. He has kind of lost his way and became a lay about with strong beliefs against the way his son's son is running the show. He's a character which a few grown ups could empathise with as he's kind of lost the meaning of Christmas....but he regains it by the end. He's the guy which drives Arthur into this adventure for the wrong reasons at first but he eventually learns with a little help from Arthur ;) This film truly represents Christmas. The atmosphere, the enthusiasm, the optimism, the faith, the fun, the joy....this film IS Christmas. It's beautifully animated with immense detail. The music is stunningly gorgeous...its my favourite film score of ALL time. The characters are absolutely perfect. I can't imagine a better Christmas film :)
Rise of the Guardians (2012)
such a WONDERful film.
I've been wanting to watch this film for a while. I've never gotten a chance til now. I was expecting it to be good.....I was not expecting that. I love Hugh Jackman and Jude Law and Chris Pine and Isla Fisher....who doesn't right? But I was expecting a cheesy lined filled, exaggerated film with un-realistically "apple pie" characters and in-human animation.
None of that was true. NONE. The animation first of was absolutely incredible. It was intricate and magical and...just amazing and it made me believe these characters were real. The eyes were the most incredible part to me. The strands in Jack's blue eyes and then his brown eyes make him feel so real. It was absolutely incredible.
OK the "apple pie" characters. First of Jack. He could not be further from an "apple pie" character. He was resentful and confused and had NO idea who he was or who he was meant to be but then again as North says he's got layers- he was strong and impulsive and fun and kind and caring and SO protective of the kids- especially of Jamie. He was SO admirable and amazing and human. Chris Pine's voice was perfect as well. He truly brought Jack to life. He was a beautiful character. OK Jamie. Jamie was the "cliched" kid who believes. He was fun and adorable and also beautiful. He made me cry happily SO many times. In complete honesty- he was me. Except for gender- wise. He believed no matter what anyone said. I loved his character. The bunny....the funniest part of his character was how he was with jack and the the fact that he was an Austrailian. My mum said that jack and bunny reminded her of Gimli and Arrogorn from Lord of the Rings...competitive but working towards the same goal. The bunny in my opinion had the most layers. He was competitive and brave and stubborn but he loved what he stood for and he loved being believed in and he loved the kids. He was awesome in fact. And now North or Santa....the teacher, the father, the leader. He taught Jack about layers...about how a person can be more than just scary and powerful....he can be wonder-full. He can see the world in a million ways. He can look at anything and can find the happiness in it. His character was very deep and I loved him.
OK now the story- the idea is that a kid who just "appeared" out of nowhere under the ice. All he knew was his name- "Jack Frost" and that the moon told him this. He then discovers his powers and stumbles upon a town of people but they can't see him and they just walk right through him literally. They can't see him. They don't believe in him....yeah it's depressing. We then skip to 300 years later and we meet the 4 guardians- Tooth, North, Sandy and Bunny. They guard children. They guard their beliefs and they prove to them that magic is real. Very admirable and beautiful. There is a globe in the room with tiny lights shining on different countries. This earlier was covered with shadows....the shadow of Pitch Black or the bogeyman who is trying to get the world to believe in him through fear. He's their enemy. The moon then chooses to announce a new guardian....yeah it's Jack. The guardians then find jack and chuck him in a sack and transport him to the North pole. I'm not gonna kill everything so I'll just leave it there. :-P the storyline is so intricate and the scripting is snappy and beautiful and hilarious.
Truthfully I don't know why this film hasn't done better. It's probably coz of people like me who wanted to see it but didn't. I sincerely apologise for that actually. I desperately wish I'd seen it at the cinema now. I'm sure it would've been magnificent. I'm so sorry.
This is a beautiful film that made me feel like I was 6 years old again....very cheesy I know but I promise you this film is absolutely wonderful and full of adorable characters and fun and magic and I couldn't love it more. You know a film's good when you can watch it twice within the same 4 hours and still cry the second time. Just watch it and enjoy it. You won't regret it.
Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger! (2012)
Christmas spirit
Some people who've reviewed this film have absolutely no Christmas spirit. "It's a film written for kids by kids" what the hell is wrong with that?! Who has the most Christmas spirit? KIDS! Duh....I love Christmas and I love Mr Poppy and David Tennant....this is an incredibly adorable film with a very cheesy theme based around 2 families- Mr Poppy and his kids and David Tennant and his wife and unborn children...well born by the end of the film. I don't really see how anyone can insult a film which portrays Christmas spirit through the eyes of children and Mr Poppy :-P
I loved the first Nativity film and I was quite terrified that this film was going to be awful because it might've killed Nativity for me but to my surprise it was just the same as the first. Cheesy; based around a goofball teacher and a group of children with TONS of Christmas spirit with the added bonus of David Tennant!!! I loved it. The adventure is more extreme and sweeter and it is SO freakin cute!! It's the perfect Christmas movie....and anyone who heckles it has no Christmas spirit :-P
About Time (2013)
The greatest film I've seen in a long time
I really don't know where to begin with this one. I usually write that I am a film student or that I'm 16 or that I saw this with my mum or my best friend or something along the lines of I am a film nerd but truthfully I think this films too good for my writing clichés. I have never in my life found a film SO emotionally engaging. I have never seen a film with characters SO relatable and SO believably amazing. It's just....wow.
OK where to begin? OK I'll start with Tim. Domhnall Gleeson is just perfect. He really his. His accent, his persona, his chemistry with Rachel McAdams, his relationship with his father and his sister and what he says about her at the beginning...that she is the most wonderful thing in the world and his hopeless romanticism as well as his disbelief when his father tells him about the time travelling. The thing that was so amazing about his character was how he just seemed...normal really. How he was extraordinary and funny and appreciative of everything but he was just so ordinary yet so different at the same time and I found him so relatable and beautiful....and just....wow. (that phrase will be used A LOT in this review) OK Tim's dad. (Bill Nighy) First of I LOVE Bill Nighy. He was stunning in this film....seriously flawless. His character was funny and inspiring and just....wow. How he tells Tim is just hilarious and how they play table tennis and oh! His speech at the wedding is just SO beautiful...it actually made me cry and when he dies and Tim has to say goodbye and Tim goes back and they go on the walk they did when he was a kid was just so beautiful...I'm actually crying writing this review. He really reminded me of my dad actually....competitive, funny, strange and undeniably insane yet thankful for every second of his life....that's what I want to be like.
The sister....Kit Kat, Katie, Kittle Kattle. Oh my gosh was she AMAZING! SERIOUSLY I LOVED her SO much...her character was charmingly funny and friendly and such a great person yet fell down some wrong paths...when she got hit by the car...I cried SO much. She was just...seriously hilarious yet so relatable and lovable. The film would definitely have not be the same without her.
I could just go on and on and on...I haven't even mentioned how beautiful Rachel McAdam's character was or how much I loved uncle Bernard who is quite A LOT like me or how AMAZING Richard Curtis is as a director but I'm going to end it here and say that this review REALLY does not do this incredibly inspiring, ore creating, extraordinary film which is now my favourite film EVER justice. I would rate this film a million out of 10 if I could....it's just beautiful and if you haven't seen it. See it. It really is flawless.
Zoom (2006)
Brilliant and severely underrated film
I watched this film first when I was about 9....so of course I found it awesome. I've loved this film since I was 9. It's cheesy, cute, funny, charming and consists of a cast which work so flawlessly together. This film truthfully and cheesily is kind of exactly what I want out of life...to have a group of friends that'll help you through anything and to be treasured for being different and to be able to use my differences to help people and save the world.
This film is so cute seriously- "faster than fast. Truer than true. In the pursuit of justice there is no speed limit." As a typical teenage girl....my favourite character would be Dylan and not just because he's cute but because his powers are so awesome as well as his attitude. His "I don't care" attitude which eventually grows into this cute team leader attitude where he'd do anything for zoom or summer or cindy or tucker.....it's just adorable.
Truthfully I'm being quite general in this review as this film was a slight part of my childhood and I remember going to school and pretending to get a headache above my eyebrow and looking down hallways which were miles away from me....yeah I'm a dork. Truthfully I kind of refuse to point out the flaws in this film. (there is flaws....I'm not denying that)
OK quick plot description- this film is based around 4 kids with extraordinary abilities- a 6 year old girl named Cindy who is insanely strong, a 12 year old guy named Tucker who has the strangest ability ever....he can exaggerate his body parts and make them grow huge at will, a 16 year old girl named Summer who is telekinetic and a 17 year old guy named Dylan with the ability to turn invisible and to see places and people in his mind without being there with them or being in that area and these four kids are lead by former superhero- "Zoom" or Jack as he now prefers to be called who is played by Tim Allen and at first he seems all washed up and useless but gradually turns out to be a father figure to these kids. OK they become a superhero team who fight against a villain named Concussion...I'm going to leave it at that because the endings the best bit and I don't want to give away the twists too.
OK here's the gist- this film is awesome! It's probably the perfect kid's superhero movie and I still love it as much as I did about 7 years ago. To me though...this film represents the idea that differences are what make us amazing. This is a feel-good movie based around real themes, great music, a great cast, stunning visual effects and a group chemistry which is undeniable. Watch it.
Warm Bodies (2013)
Beautiful...just beautiful
OK. I've tried to write a review for this film 3 times now. I'm getting the feeling that something is somewhat against me reviewing this film which confuses me because this film is beautiful and amazing and the themes are stunningly amazing as well as the score, the effects, the settings, the make up, the casting, the scripting...EVERYthing. I love this film so much. It's just stunning. I've seen 3 zombie films in my life- Shaun of the dead, zombieland and this one....this film is nothing like zombieland or Shaun of the dead....I loved Zombieland too but hated Shaun of the dead but seriously warm bodies is one of the best films I've seen in a while. Nicolas Hoult was absolute genius as well as Teresa Palmer and Analeigh Tipton and Rob Corddry and Dave Franco...the cast was completely flawless. Anyways this film is based around a zomhie called "R" who has the rare ability to think. He begins to question his life as a zombie especially when he meets "Julie" who he falls in love with on first sight. He saves her life and takes her to his home at the abandoned plane in an airport full of zombies and "bonies" to protect her from being eaten. Over the next few days they fall for each other and Julie and R run away with each other to an abandoned neighbourhood where R confesses to killing Julie's boyfriend Perry. She then leaves R after he sleeps and dreams for the first time since he became a "corpse" R then heads back to the airport to find out that the bonies are after him and Julie and that the other corpses are beginning to change also. R goes to find Julie and warn her of the bonies and R then plans to tell Julie's father that the corpses are changing. This meeting doesn't go well and ends in Julie and R being chased by her father's army men whilst the zombies are fighting bonies in an abandoned subway station. The humans see this and join in helping the corpses meanwhile R and Julie are being chased by bonies and the army and end up on a ledge above water. R then grabs Julie and jumps back first into the water whilst holding Julie. They fall and he hits the bottom and Julie lifts her head out of the water and then goes and grabs R from the bottom of the water....and he's OK. R and Julie then kiss romantically and then we see an extreme close up of R's eye which changes from light and outlined with slight lack of life to bright blue and human and then we hear a gun shot and see R jolt backwards. Julie's father is stood opposite holding a steaming gun. Julie then starts explaining to her father before realising that R is bleeding. R is in the back in shock holding his shoulder. He is now human. This is such an amazing bit that it actually made me cry.
I can't believe how amazing this film is. You have to see it! I really wasn't expecting it to be like this. I was expecting some cheesy, cheap zombie humour with gruesome scenes based around zombies ripping humans to pieces....it's nothing like that. The humour is all cleverly placed and there is some gore but not enough for it to be a horror or even a thriller. It's a zombie romantic comedy which is insanely cute and an extremely clever idea. I love it so much.
Watch it!
Bad Girls from Valley High (2005)
sucks. Worst film I've seen in my life.
I'd give this film a negative score if I could.
It's about 3 despicably moronic, selfish girls who eat chocolate then grow old and die...need I say more?
This film was one of the only bad films my dad has ever recommended and truthfully to this day I can't comprehend why I actually sat through such a disgusting film based around these horrible people. I don't think I'll ever understand it. Just please trust that the title of this film will escape you the second's it's turned off....and that's for the better because you are never going to want to see it again.
Do not see this film. It'll be 2 hours of your life you will NEVER get back. The effects are awful, the concept sucks, the acting sucks and the ending is ridiculously annoying.
How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
One of the most inspiring and sweet and charming and amazing films I have seen in my life. Makes me cry every time,
Films to me are what make life. Films are adventure and to me show that the world isn't all bad people.....if masterpieces like this are created by humans then how are we all bad? I watched this film first when I was 13 years old and yet this film somehow takes me back to my childhood because it's just so enlightening and sweet and represents that you can't judge a book by it's cover. A dragon's not always a fire breathing monster and a nerdy, lanky kid isn't always useless. A nerdy, lanky kid is sometimes what this world needs.
This film is based around a 13 year old Viking named "Hiccup" who is the son of hard headed leader Viking "Stoick the vast" who appears to disapprove of his son and how he's more imagination less brutal force. Hiccup is the outcast of the village due to him being clumsy and impulsive and he appears to posses no qualities a typical Viking does so he is always locked away in "Gobber's" workshop whilst the other young Vikings- "Astrid," "Snotlout," "Tuffnut," "Ruffnut" and "Fishlegs" put out fires....not just figuratively. One day Hiccup leaves the workshop during a dragon attack on the village and using a contraption created by Gobber and himself he catches the rarest dragon of all...a night fury. Which no one has ever seen. He then goes and finds this dragon and at first his instincts is to kill him so he tries to he grabs his knife and aims it at the dragon's chest with his eyes closed....but then he opens then and looks at the night fury's big green eye. You can see the fear in both characters eyes at that moment and can see the link between the two. He is sympathetic so he cuts the dragon free and lets him go and the dragon drags Hiccup to a rock and holds him there just staring aggressively at Hiccup and then he leaves and he leaves Hiccup unharmed. This action contradicts everything Vikings have ever known about dragons.
My favourite scene in this film happens at about half an hour in and Hiccup walks into an area where "Toothless" the dragon is carrying a shield and a fish. The shield gets stuck between 2 rocks. Toothless walks up to Hiccup aggressively which makes Hiccup drop his knife on the ground and kick it into the water. Hiccup then gives Toothless the fish but at first sees that he has no teeth.....this is where his name comes from. He then retracts his teeth and eats the fish and then crowds Hiccup close to a rock like he did when they first met that terrifies Hiccup but Toothless then spits out a part of the fish on Hoccup's lap. Toothless then sits like the way a dog would and looks from the fish to Hiccup so Hiccup eats a little bit of the fish and smiles awkwardly. Toothless then tries to smile back so Hiccup leans in to try and stroke Toothless but Toothless gets angry and backs away and then flies away and hides under his own tail but Hiccup follows him and sits by him and attempts to stroke his tail but Toothless lifts it to see Hiccup so he awkwardly walks away. Toothless then sleeps upside down on a tree but then sees Hiccup sitting on a rock drawing in the soil with a stick and we see that he is drawing Toothless and Toothless sees this too and so grabs a stick and starts drawing squiggly lines on the ground around where Hiccup is sitting when he stops Hiccup stands up and looks around himself in amazement and then starts walking and steps on one of the lines which causes Toothless to growl. He then steps over the line into the gaps between the line and keeps doing this until he runs into Toothless backwards. He then turns around and tries to touch his nose again but Toothless growls so Hiccup closes his eyes and puts his hand out there aimed at Toothless' face but he can't see anything. He is completely vulnerable. Toothless then leans into Hiccup's hand and closes his eyes. The soundtrack during this bit is so beautiful and magical and makes me actually cry happy tears every time I watch it. It's too beautiful for words.
I am so thankful that in this world full of disasters and a world slowly losing it's innocence that a film full of such beautiful moments and beautiful themes and full of the idea that we all have a place in this world and that not everything is as it seems. I am quite a cynical film reviewer and I cannot find a flaw in this masterpiece. All cast are stunningly perfect, all characters are amazing, the animation and cinematography is magical. This film is just....wow and no matter how many times I watch it I am always amazed with the scripting and the soundtrack. Seriously anyone involved with this film should be insanely proud of themselves.
SEE IT!! Trust me. It's beautiful.
This Is the End (2013)
don't see it. it''s disgusting and somewhat scarring to a girl who grew up watching Disney films as well as cheesy comedic films like Bruce Almighty
OK...well where to begin? OK first of I'd like to point out that I saw this with my mum and I didn't have a clue what it was about....this is what i knew- Jay Baruchel is in it and Rhianna dies...so we saw it and I am very very surprised we stuck around til the end of this film. I am quite an innocent person so in retrospect when i heard this film was a 15 we should have ran out of the cinema but anyway we stayed and we saw my absolute nightmare of a film seriously....there were too many ridiculously annoying bits as well as actors I love showing despicable habits such as Micheal Cera...for those who have seen it they'll understand what I mean...but I'm not going to explain it either way. This film has made me fear for comedic films of the future because if this is in fact the end then I am afraid that my cinematic viewings will from now on only consist of fantasy and animation as both still remain innocent and unchanged as far as I can see.
Anyways I gave this film a 5. A 5 purely because despite the swearing and the childish attitude as well as the drug use I actually did like Jay Baruchel's character....he stood up for Emma Watson when she slept in Franco's house despite how she heard it and he believed in god and truthfully he didn't hate Jonah Hill...he just knew Jonah hated him apparently a lot more than he assumed as he sort of sent the devil to kill Jay...I really hated that bit. It was absolutely ridiculous and it frustrates me to even think about it now. Anyways I love Jay Baruchel...I think he's such an amazing actor and without him this film is a total bust.
OK I found three scenes in this film funny and that's the attempted resurrection of Jonah Hill, Hermionie robbing them and Jay wishing for the backstreet boys in heaven but every other bit of humour is absolutely disgusting and clearly ad-libbed. Me and my mum absolutely hated Danny Mcbride in this film....it got to a point where if I heard him even utter a syllable I'd close my eyes and cover my ears because I knew what was about to happen. In all fairness James Franco in one scene was just as bad as Danny Mcbride. James Franco's death was stupidly annoying....he starts to get sucked into heaven and gets cocky with it so gets dropped into the middle of a group of cannibals...and yeah what happens next is obvious. It's disgusting.
I regret seeing this film. I really do because I fear it's stolen a piece of my innocence however I still like being able to say I've seen all Jay Baruchel films ever made which is the only bright side of this film.
Don't see it. Trust me you'll regret it.
The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
inspired me to take film studies....insanely awesome film and anyone involved should be SO freakin proud....exactly what Disney was meant to be
Truthfully if i could i would give this film a 100 out of 10. This film is based around an awkward nerd named "Dave Stutler" who is re-known for an action 10 years before 80% of the actual film footage....an event known as the "Arcana cabana" when Dave was on a school field trip and gave this girl named Becky a note saying "I would like Dave to be my [] friend [] boyfriend" and we see Becky check 1 and then put the note down on a wall and Dave walks up to grab it when it blows away....he then chases this note into a shop called "Arcana cabana" and into this scary dark man (Nicolas Cage) named Balthazar after almost knocking over a vase...events then transpire which i'm not going to get into...the gist of it is that Balthazar discovers that Dave is the "prim-merlinian" which means he is a sorcerer powerful enough to cast magic without a ring, Dave then releases an evil sorcerer named "Horvath" (Alfred Molina) into the world, a jar full of water smashes on him and he promptly traps Balthazar and Horvath into an urn for 10 years.
It then skips to 10 years later where we see Jay Baruchel (Dave Stutler) who is a cute, nerdy, awkward guy who appears slightly socially challenged to begin with and we see the dragon ring given to him at arcana cabana 10 years earlier at the back of a cabinet collecting dust. Jay Baruchel is so brilliant in this film....i can't actually believe how awesome he was. He portrays the character of Dave so seamlessly and flawlessly that it's hard now to see him as anyone but Dave Stutler. There's so many admirable qualities which he portrays like how romantic he is and how he's SO intelligent yet so modest and how Balthazar and him are is amazing...the weird sort of father-son chemistry is undeniably perfect as well as Dave's chemistry with Becky (Teresa Palmer) which at first is not returned but she then falls for his quirky charm.
OK...my favourite scene in this film would have to be the fantasia bit of course...well that's one of my favourites. It's just so cleverly made and links so well to the Disney classic fantasia which i've loved since i can remember. Seeing this scene recreated makes me reminiscent and actually gives me chills.
Honestly this is actually my favourite film of all time and i would watch it OVER and OVER again if I could. This film is actually the reason that I want to be a director someday....so thank you for creating such a masterpiece to all cast and crew who were involved in this film.
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (2013)
Opinions vary on this film......but I'm going to focus on the positive.
Honestly I thought this film was going to suck. I am a HUGE fan of the books....I have read them about 5 times and truthfully after watching the first film and how far it fled from the book I thought this film would be a lot worse than what it was. So, OK I went to watch this film in 3D with my mother and I am pretty sure I bored her by saying "that was in the book." OVER and OVER. The opening to this film begins with a camera following the sea and slowly sinking under and then revealing the title "Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters" in what looked like iron writing during which Logan Lerman is giving a speech about how the Greek gods are real and how 7 years ago 4 demigods tried to get into Camp Half Blood then the camera zooms from aerial shot of a forest to 4 young children. 2 girls and 2 guys. A creature is chasing them but we don't see this creature until later as this explains another part of the character "Annabeth" One of the guys gets knocked over by this creature and is picked up and dragged into the camp by young Annabeth and young Luke while a black haired girl named Thalia yells that she'll hold it off and for them to go. She is then thrown to the ground and dies in a position where she's flailed in several directions...Percy then continues to narrate saying that Zeus let her live in another way and as he says this Thalia's body begins to turn into a tree and this tree then forms a blue barrier which eventually becomes transparent as Annabeth, Luke and Grover enter the camp. I actually found this to be a strong opening as it showed us 2 of the main characters' journey as well as the main villain's plus the effects were amazing as well as the acting.
Anyways in the books from sea of monsters onwards Tyson was always my favourite character....and he did not disappoint in this film. I loved the clutzy lovable guy he was in this film. He was so cute actually. Douglas Smith portrays a character full of hope and love and optimism and this character actually makes the film. In a weird way he reminded me of Doug from the Pixar film up.....not in a mean way. He was just lovable and cute and charming and loved Percy from the minute he laid "eye" on him (haha....cheesy Cyclops joke) which reminded me of "I just met you and I love you." The line which Doug says to Mr Frederickson when they first meet. I found both his portrayal of my favourite character and the brotherly chemistry between Percy and himself to be stunning actually. How he sacrifices himself to save Percy and says "You'd do the same for me." and then falls of a cliff into water actually made me cry especially when Percy's grieving and says "I never even called him brother." I don't know how the world saw Douglas Smith as a clumsy Cyclops but truthfully I couldn't be more in love with what I saw from him today.
OK....first of me and mum are both HUGE fans of the Logan Lerman film "the perks of being a wallflower" and since watching it about 10 times in a week it is slightly tough to see him as anymore than the emotional character of "Charlie" but both characters of Charlie and Percy were perfectly portrayed by Logan Lerman and I am actually really proud of his performance in this. He portrays the wounded hero extremely well. The hero without a quest who cannot contact his father. I love Logan Lerman. I really do and I love Percy Jackson...so to me this was a perfect combination.
Truthfully the reviews on this film maybe mixed and some may choose to focus on the bad like how the voice over was sometimes too obvious and how the story ran to quick from disaster to disaster but there are so many things that are admirable about this film which cannot be ignored like the flawless casting and the brilliant lines and how it seemed to flow from scene to scene without stopping as well as how it seemed to stick to the book's storyline. I don't know whether this series will continue but I REALLY hope it does as I'm not ready to say goodbye to Percy and Annabeth and Grover and Tyson yet.
Now You See Me (2013)
AMAZING!! :D You MUST see this film! Any who give a negative review has no taste whatsoever
I am a 16 year old girl and truthfully I HATE crime films and predictable twists drive me up the wall. (oh I am an insane film nerd.....just so you know :P) When I first saw the trailer for this film I actually wrote the date it came out in Britain on my calendar for about 5 reasons. 1- I LOVE Jesse Eisenberg SO much....I've seen Zombieland about 10 times and I am still amazed by Colombus (his character) each time. 2- Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg together...is such a brilliant combination. 3- The concept of the four horseman intrigued me...you see I enjoy films based around more than one person. The dynamic from what I saw in the 30 second trailer was amazing and flawlessly acted. 4- Once again, what I determined from the trailer, was how amazing the script was...."Rule number one of magic: Always be the smartest guy in the room." I still love that line :-P 5- Magic. The idea of a crime drama based around 4 magicians just sounded awesome! Anyway, I went to the cinema with my best friend Nicole to see this film and truthfully some of the twists were a little obvious but I'm willing to bet that it was planned that way to ensure "dramatic irony" like the final part of their plan where they used the mirror box trick which they previously used to hide a rabbit in a box in the show, that Jack Wilder was still alive and the linchpin of the plan after that HUGE car crash scene (which was SO greatly filmed...the way they switched from long shot to over the top shot and from close shot of each car made us see exactly what the FBI saw during that scene which was Jack Wilder crash and die in an explosion when in reality they'd switched the cars and Jack Wilder drove off to break into the hospital and drop off the corpse which they stored in the car that crashed and then crack open the safe) Truthfully I didn't see the big twist coming at the end, I don't think anyone did. Mark Ruffalo I have got to say was GENIUS in this film. Flawless acting. Flawless chemistry with the French girl (I do know her name but I can't spell it :S Anyways she was the PERFECT character to contradict Mark Ruffalo's fake "I don't believe in magic" attitude) He should be SO proud of his performance in this film as I believe he was the centre of this film.
Dave Franco was SO brilliant in this. Jack Wilder was actually my favourite character. His trick where he bends the spoon in the first scene he's in amazed me and the scene where he beats up Dylan Rhodes was actually really really cool. The camera shots in that scene were also amazing actually.
Morgan Freeman was also AMAZING! I know he was the bad guy but he was SO cool and collected. He's such an amazing actor. I really wasn't surprised at how great he was.
Isla Fisher was SO amazing in this film. Flawless acting, amazing character and perfect amount of chemistry between her and Jesse Eisenberg's character. That scene where he catches her actually gave me goosebumps. They could not have picked a more perfect actress for this part.
Woody Harrelson brought comedic effect to an otherwise crime/ fantasy based film. The interrogation scene where he mocks an FBI agent and psychoanalyses Rhodes and his partner actually made me cry with laughter. Once again the perfect actor to play this part. He was hilarious and brilliant.
And....finally Jesse Eisenberg. As I've said I do love him. He's such a BRILLIANT actor and should be SO incredibly proud of how he portrayed "Daniel Atlas" in this film. Nicole truly loved this character and the fact that he looked amazingly cute in this film also added to his amazing portrayal. I really can't fault his performance. He was....just....well the fact that I am speechless still and it's been about six hours since I've seen the film is a great sign.
I really can't find a fault in this scene and there's SO much more I could mention like Michael Caine was also amazing and the flawless camera work and effects and lighting and sound and I REALLY don't see how anyone can find a fault within this AMAZING film. Flawless lovable characters mixed with amazing twists and flawless camera work and scripting.....I am actually racking my brain trying to find a fault to make it seem like I am not biased but I REALLY can't. I was never bored, I was always on the edge of my seat. Let's just say I have a new favourite film and anyone involved within this film should be SO proud.
