Modern Persuasion (2020)
Waste of time
Boring, bad acting, pointless dialogues. 35 minutes in and it couldn't make me crack a smile, let alone crack up with laughter. Just don't waste your time with it. This is not a comedy, it's the tragedy of acting.
Knutby: I blind tro (2021)
Chaotic, exaggerated
One thing true crime documentary makers should learn: NEVER accuse someone of committing something if you don't have evidence.
It starts off pretty well, then it just becomes a complete chaos. Cold blooded murderers are not victims, no matter how these types of documentaries try to show them that way. You can't turn a monster into a nice person just because they are likeable for some reason. They still killed people.
It amazes me how a whole community can go full stupid and form a cult like this. It's just beyond my brain's capacity. Adults believing that a random person is the real bride of Jesus. I mean, really??? This was the scariest part for me in the series. I just can't imagine a whole community of adults go this insane. WHY?
All in all, it would've been a good documentary if it didn't start exaggerating chaotically at the end. We get it, no one (not even me) likes the so called bride, but when there is no evidence, then just leave it as it is.
If you can find a shorter documentary on this topic then forget this one.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
8 for the intention, but the execution deserves less
If the intention of these series was to show the damage these online Sherlock Holmes wannabes can do, they did an excellent job with it. I was disgusted buy them, honestly. The way they tried to do damage control after the series came out was absolutely pathetic. They made a zoom conference on one of the YouTuber's channel and tried to clear what they did. Sadly, it worked with their fans, but we know fans can be blind and easily manipulated. Anyone rational and sane would know that they're doing more harm than good.
We have professionals and experts for a reason. They have years and years of studies on their fields, so they know what they're doing. While bored soccer wives and lifeless soccer men think they can solve a criminal case based on news articles. The police knows way more than it is public. Yet, these wannabe FBI agents went so far that they almost pushed an innocent guy to commit suicide. Accusing him without evidence of a murder he clearly didn't commit. All this because he was at the hotel a year earlier (!!!) and he's into heavy music. Art has many forms. Not every painting is about flowers, not every poem is about love, not every movie has a happy ending and not every music is about butterflies in your stomach.
On the other hand, the story was dragged and obviously made for what streaming services and the media stands for. Creating confusion, a lot of information that wasn't needed. Yes, as others said it, it could have been shorter and more on point. No need to drag and drag something that can be made clear in less than two hours.
All in all, it is worth watching it. It depicts how malicious, poisonous and disgusting these fake, attention craving YouTube and online "investigators" can be. That alone will worth your time.
Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult (2020)
I just didn't fall for it
This whole thing looks like a damage control movie from India's family and herself. She refused other documentraries where she wasn't in control of the script, but she accepted to participate in one that focuses on her and makes her the biggest victim ever on the planet. I didn't eat it up. I think she was evil, she knew what was going on, even mentioning how unconfortable she felt MANY times during the documentary, so she knew she's in the wrong. She destroyed many lives while knowing exactly what she was doing. India should be in jail either, just like every other high level member of this cruel, disgusting cult. It's a very orchestrated documentary with almost zero credibility the way it tries to transform a monster into a victim.
Salyut-7 (2017)
Way too American
I liked the story, but I didn't like the execution. When you have your own culture, your own way of doing it, there is no point in copying others. I wanted to see a Russian movie not a copy-paste one. There wasn't a second where the movie could make me feel I was not watching a new Hollywood brainstorm. The structure of the story, the way of filming it, the dialogues, the attitudes of the characters and basically everything was just copied and sold as a Russian movie. Too bad, because it could have been a Russian sci-fi classic.
The Darkest Hour (2011)
A very underrated sci-fi
I don't understand the low rating for this movie. Maybe because there is no USA army in it to defend the whole planet, some of you may think it won't worth the time watching it. Yes, it is a good movie. A fresh air after all these U.S. Army promotion sci-fi movies. A simple story with simple characters, good special effects, acceptable performances from the actors. It does not bring something new, but that wasn't the intention of the movie makers, I'm pretty sure about that. It's a simple sci-fi, with aliens attacking our planet, a story we've all seen before. Fairly done, a great movie for a rainy afternoon. Oh, and the other thing is that it's not an American city where the action takes place, it's Moscow. Don't expect Los Angeles, New York and the Statue Of Liberty in flames. It can happen in some other places too. Just get over it and enjoy the movie.
