Easily the best film on Netflix for 2023
2 October 2023
A very rare gem sitting in a giant library of trash aka Netflix.

Strong cast, especially Del Toro (Tom) who is mesmerizing to watch. Michael Pitt (Eli), Domenick Lombardozzi (Wally) and Eric Bogosian (Allen) deserve soecial mentions, all are very well written characters.

Good slow and steady pace, the cuts are masterfully edited with sometimes over the top ominous soundtracks but otherwise mostly effective to maintain the thriller tension. Never a dull moment, the build up leading to the ending is just masterful.

Grant Singer film debut scores high marks, excited to see what he is onto next. 9/10.

Season 4 is the Best yet....
13 February 2023
Just finished season 4 and very thrilled to report it managed to out-perform the already very good past 3 seasons...... amazing

the team is showing multiple signs of cracks from the burn-out of the ongoing war and the cracks are growing to chasms, the human drama is real and tangible, from both Israeli and Palestinian camps.

The series managed to reinforce my empathy and rooting for all the squad members, from the old timers to the new comer Shani, they were all given the deserved investments script-wise, well fleshed out characters.

Just as brilliant is the writing for the antagonists, which are never one-dimensional, but tragic and hateful at the same time.

Characters like Maya and the parents of the antagonists caught in the cross-fire are the hardest to get right but the production team fared superbly, they are the ones who will keep the neutrals invested and engaged though the 12 episodes.

Fauda is military based drama done right.

is Episode 6 another show ?!
27 September 2022
So many levels of wrong in this latest episode, oh where do i even start...

  • the 2 new actresses aren't even that much older than the 2 from E01 to E05, they have zero vibes from the 2 OGs. If they can put heavy make up on the King and close to nothing has changed for Ser Criston, why must they change the 2 OGs princesses ? They carried the show well so far, total disconnection.

  • the dialogues seem straight out of another Twilight movie, cringe inducing n amateurish, even my 5 yr old can do better.

  • the story is predictable n linear as a line, i can fast forward without missing anything significant.

GOT started strong n got destroyed by season 8, HOTD started ok n got wrecked by episode 6.

An anti-woke dark satire that is refreshing
5 September 2022
That probably pissed off a few woke snowflakes, which is always good. Top marks to both the female protagonist (Betty Gilpin) and antagonist (Hillary Swank).

Perhaps the spectrum of lunatics which the jokes are aimed at will be more complete if they included at least one non-binary character that insisted on being addressed by pronoun "they" or "eir" or some other rubbish. Or someone that identifies as a pig and plays the pig itself.

I guessed in 2020 the world had not turned that batcrap crazy yet vs today in 2022.

Kudos's to Netflix for picking this gem up. Keep it up, your stock price might just be salvageable.

The Batman (2022)

"Because The Batman is the hero that Gotham deserves...
30 April 2022
... but not the one that I need right now, or ever, so I rated it 1/10. Because I cannot take it."

A pointless remake of remakes. The amount of goofs and loopholes fully detailed in The Batman Pitch Meeting on Youtube, google it, and thank me later for saving you the agony.

On a brighter note, this one just further cements the high benchmark set by The Dark Knight Trilogy, which shall remain as the only 3 Batman films we deserve and need right now and forever more.

Super Bored
11 April 2022
There are some good cast like Kyle Chandler and Uma Thurman. But the merit ends there. Direction and script are just bad. It's all over place and fails to create real drama tension. The random 1st person narrations and random 4th wall breakings just make whole show amateurish.

Out of the 3 current unicorns went bad shows, the other 2 namely WeCrashed and The Dropout, this one is the worst and should be titled Super Bored instead.

Can't go wrong with Anne Hathaway.....but
27 March 2022
.... Jared Leto...meh...not so much. He is far too old to be the right fit for Andy Neumann. Fortunately or unfortunately, i've already watched Hulu's "WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn", so it's fair for me to rate his performance at a sub-par 3/10. Andy Neumann is a pretty one-dimensional character to play. Any actor with long hair and weed can nail a solid impression of him, yet somehow has proved too challenging for Jared Leto.

He's always been an over-rated actor, no exception here. He must have paid using his own money to insert himself into this role, seeing how he is one of the executive producers.

The show's only redeeming factor is Anne Hathaway who carried this show with another award-worthy performance. Her character as the wife is way more complex than that of Jared Leto, and she passed with flying colors. I will finish this series thanks to her.

not sure why the hate on Amanda Seyfried
4 March 2022
First 3 episodes in and i think she is a credible Elizabeth Holmes, mostly, except that she is way too pretty. Otherwise, her acting on this role works for me and largely keeps the grip on the show.

Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Don't even need to watch the movie or even the trailer
1 January 2022
...to know this needless 4th installment that no true Matrix fans asked for deserved a 0/10 rating. In fact, we didn't even asked for the 2nd or 3rd, let alone the 4th sequel.

Not even scratching the surface
14 December 2021
As someone based in Singapore i am well aware of the homeless situation in California. But this so called documentary did absolutely nothing to help me understand the depth and dynamics of the situation. No in depth interviews with the policy makers, the politicians, the police, basically the entire community. Even the few interviews they featured with the few homeless people were not even scratching the surface. Feels more like a glimpse than a documentary.

watch this as a comedy
25 June 2021
And you will glide over the 12 episodes as decent entertainment, similar in vein as One-Punch Man, just a bit inferior overall.

It pokes fun in itself and is not to be taken seriously. With that as expectation i was not disappointed with season 1. Looking forward to season 2. Rated 7/10.

Run, HIde and Fight the MSM
17 January 2021
When the MSM and leftists tried so hard to suppress a movie, all the more i have to watch it. Run Hide Fight did not disappoint. Isabel May's performance is brilliant, her character is worth rooting for from start to finish. Since when is MSM a credible source for truth? No exception here. 8/10

Friendship and Parenting at the heart of this short film
30 July 2020
My heart went out to the parents of Max and to Feliks. This short documentary masterfully told a beautiful story between the unconditional love of the parents of Max and his special friendship with a world champion cuber Feliks, As someone who is not a cuber, the drama is still very intense and the relationships formed around Max warmed my heart. This is a gem that will likely be overlooked by many but i am so glad to catch it on netflix.

If you thought you already knew everything about MJ and his Bulls, you gotta watch The Last Dance.
18 May 2020
As a teenager who followed all MJ's games from 1991 to 1998, to an adult who watched and re-watched all the documentaries and youtube clips on MJ and his Bulls, i thought i should know all there is to know. And boy, was i happy to be wrong.

The Last Dance stowaway footages for over 20 years and the recent interviews were pieced masterfully together to reveal a spellbinding fresh perspective on MJ and his teammates journey from 1991 to 1998, with strong emphasis on the 1997-1998 season.

Prior to watching The Last Dance, if i have to describe MJ in just one word, it was always gonna be - Tenacity. After watching the 10 episodes, a new word has emerged - Leadership.

That's right, already a natural born leader, over his entire career in NBA, MJ has evolved his leadership skills to such a pinnacle that i honestly believe, if this man set his mind up to become the President of US, or the head of a business cartel, or the best basketballer history will ever see, he can. The Last Dance will show all his leadership at work inside and outside the team. To me, that's what sets him apart from all other so called all-time greats. The Last Dance showed me that.

The only horror about this film...
7 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Is the fact that people who voted for it to win the Cannes film festival award and those who gave it anything higher than a 7/10 on this platform, actually exist.

A family living below the poverty line in a 1st world nation whose kids couldn't pass the national exams or fold a pizza box would suddenly become world class con artistes overnight infiltrating a wealthy family? And when things took a dark turn, we the audience are supposed to feel sorry for them, just because they are poor, nevermind their greed, pride and total lack of character?

Please don't insult our intelligence, at least 1 out of 3 accounts here are real and still give honest review.

The Witcher (2019– )

As good as or better than GOT? More like GTFO.
26 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The 1st episode is great, then it was all downhill from there, hitting rock bottom by the last episode.

The Goods:
  • Geralt, Ciri, Tissaia, Queen Calanthe, and Renfri (only 2 episodes) are all impressive and watchable.
  • Geralt's fight scenes with monsters. Worthy to be inserted into TW3 game.

The Bads:
  • Yennefer missed the mark badly. Despite having so much screentime and dialogues, the show failed to develop her story arc from a 4-marks-worth deformed nobody to a powerful and feared mage. If Yennefer from TW3 is 10/10, the netflix Yennefer is a 4/10.
  • Triss is woefully mis-cast and poorly scripted. Her battle scenes in the last episode went from epic to laughable.
  • The whole bunch of mages is a joke. I couldn't care less as they get picked off one after another in quick succession.
  • WTF is Fringilla ? One mage alone by herself managed to defeat the entire school of mages, including the supposedly very powerful Yennefer and Tissaia?
  • The Nilfgaard battle scenes touted to cost millions of dollars yet looked more like a b-grade youtube video.
  • The soundtrack....meh. If the main theme of GOT is epic..... TW is GTFO.
