Seeds (2018)
Psychological human study that is awesome
I loved this film for its detailed study of characters that I've never seen before, or have ever been written about. It's original story and detail to pain and taboo faults combined with penalty, hit you slowly... and at the same time hard and fast at the back of your head.
Strange and haunting, I saw it as a different view point than the mundane everyday films we see. Like Netflix's The OA, it offers a different and strange perception of reality. It's not what the main character does literally, it's his mental process that is one to learn from...from his mistakes. It plays like a good book, you are able to think while you watch. Very haunting.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Absolutely stunning and magical!
Not sure why some adults with a thorn in their side have given this film a below average score, it was absolutely magnificent! From the moment it began you could feel the immaculate attention to the incredible details visually. Any Downton Abbey fan will revel with joy watching Dan Stevens as Beast. Emma Thompson as Belle was a perfect fit, and yet brought even more depth to the character. I watched with a smile on my face and a singing spirit to the favorite songs we know and love. I can watch this with my three year old niece, my 13 year old daughter, and my friends. In an age of trash TV and films that leave you despondent, Beauty and the Beast 2017 paints you with gold leaf tenderness and an abundance of giggles from Garson and La Foo. Cogsworth and Lumier are brilliant, Ewen McGregor was perfect. The cast was diverse, and open minded. The final scene visually blew my mind, and had my tween daughter jaw dropped. This is a one of a kind, beautiful film that all who made it should feel beyond proud to have created it for many future generations to experience and clap to. Bravo!
Sing (2016)
Took my 12 year old to see it and we were both BLOWN AWAY! A++
So no joke, I bought the soundtrack while the credits were rolling for the car... for me the Mom! I was so utterly impressed, never got bored and thought it was a kiddie movie, never not wanting to hear the next song. Who ever chose the songs they perform is genius. I still cannot get over the vocals of all of the actors, they were incredible. Jennifer Hudson's rendition of Golden Slumbers is soul lifting. We just saw t after the Christmas rush in 3D, and that was the best way to really appreciate it. If your tween wants to see it, this is one you as a parent will love.❤ I can't get over "Eddie the Eagle" as "Mike", his vocals are beyond incredible.
Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
2015 and just saw it...I have not laughed as hard in probably 10 years
Listen, I read one positive external review that was spot on, and the reviewer suggested to watch it with an open heart. I saw this blind without any info on it and peed my pants laughing. This is amazing dry humor and I was not at all expecting to be hysterical as many times as I did. My sister and I watched it and felt like we were kids again watching Airplane for the first time. We are counting the hours until the Netflix series tomorrow night! We kept asking ourselves why we hadn't heard of it? We are in our early 40s and grew up going to these kinds of camps, so we both agreed you have to let this over the top genius of a spoof take you back to a crazy and happy time. If you were a teen or kid in '81, you'll probably be blown away with how accurate the costuming was. Shark bracelets, shell necklaces, rainbow sheets as a cape, and the list goes on. 10+++
Dracula (2013)
Love this series
The Dracula series grows with anticipation at each episode. JRM is just as every bit intense, if not more so, than in the Tudors. As a female viewer with a steep love for all things having to do with English history, I highly recommend this show. I find it refreshing to see a new take on English life back then, it is a surreal adaptation that works. I see it as a compliment to television viewers in the US like myself, who are tired of crime mysteries, trashy reality shows, and dumbed down dramas filled with plastic looking actors. Dracula is a gift, and the actors in it are wonderful. The love story is beginning to bloom, and viewers should be patient for this I suspect. I believe it will be worth the wait. I do believe there is substance in the plots, and the flash backs to other times takes us deeper into getting to know a new side of his character. If you watch Masterpiece or the BBC, you will want to have this series in your repertoire.
