Brighton Rock (2010)
Couldn't watch more than 15 minutes, from the books biggest fan
Having read the classic Graham Greene novel, and having seen the original film, and loving both, I had high hopes for this remake. However compared to the book and original this is awful in my opinion. I t is not true to the original story at all, yes character names and the basics of the plot are similar, but besides that... Of course to people who haven't read the book or know the plot, this may be enjoyable to you, but it probably won't. To many plot holes and unrealistic developments, which isn't surprising as they completely ignore a huge part of the novel. They do this so they can add their own twist on the story, but it doesn't work nearly half as well as the original. To conclude, if your a fan of the book, stay away.
The Mentalist: Russet Potatoes (2009)
Great episode, completely had me fooled.
The thing I love about The Mentalist is that unlike other light hearted crime shows, I can almost never guess who the killer is. This episode is probably one of the best five in the first season, which in my opinion is one of the greatest debut seasons of all time! The episode starts with a man carrying a body into CBI, however, thinking it's a bag of potatoes. It takes Patrick Jane to realise that he has been hypnotised and probably didn't kill the girl. But for me besides the clever storyline there are two thing I think I should praise the episode for. 1. The second to last scene were the killer is revealed and Jane is almost thrown of a building. 2. Owen Yeomans acting. He's the man who plays Wayne Rigsby, not only the funniest supporting character but the most talented actor. For one, he's welsh and puts on a great accent and two, the scene where he is with Jane in the park really shows how good an actor he is. So to sum up, a great episode that for mentalist fans shouldn't be missed.
The Mentalist: The Red Mile (2011)
The Mentalist can't seem to displease me
This is probably one of the worst Mentalist episodes, the story is not as sharp as others and as I was watching the episode I couldn't help thinking that for the first time the Mentalist was loosing it's steam. However, it is still the same lovable format and characters that cant seem to annoy or disappoint me. I will carry on watching the Mentalist. And I can just tell the season finale is going to be amazing. Will Patrick meat Red John face to face aside from face to mask. I would also just like to mention that on a recent survey it showed that Gregory House of House, Jack Bauer of 24 and Patrick Jane of The Mentalist are the three most Broken characters on TV. I couldn't agree more, and credit to all three actors who are always at the top of their game whilst playing these roles.
The Mentalist: Red Gold (2011)
The Mentalist continues to entertain
Although other critics have said that season 3 of The Mentalist is going down hill, I still feel it's a sharp entertaining show with a good mystery every week. Yes it hasn't been as good as the first two seasons but comparing it to other shows when they were in there 3rd season it's not hard to see why it isn't as good. Shows simply just run out of ideas. Maybe not show like dexter or other shows with only 12 episode seasons. but how many times have we watched a Castle or CSI episode that hasn't been at its best. Simon Baker still amuses me as Patrick Jane and as much as I try I still can't see anyone else playing the role as good as him. This episode is in my opinion better than other episodes this season. It was interesting to see how Jan coped without Lisbon, but with Hightower. I do hope the Mentalist picks up it pace before the season finale, because as much as I love the show, it is for the first time getting boring.
Dexter (2006)
Greatest Show Ever Made
I want to stress that I have seen a lot of great shows; 24, House, The Simpsons etc. But I have never seen a show quite as brilliant as Dexter. It succeeds in every level, it's funny, has superb lead actors, great character development, very dramatic and the most ingenious story lines I've ever seen. I remember watching the first episode on the internet to see what it was like, and from the second he killed his first victim on the show I knew I was hooked. I watched the other 11 episodes of the first season religiously and I can say bar the first season of 24 I've never enjoyed a series of TV more. Dexter is going into it's sixth season and in my opinion the previous five have been superb, and the show has never lost it's dramatic pace or originality. so if you want a to watch something that will hook you with it's great story lines, amaze you by it's actors and amuse you with it's sharp wit, then without a doubt, this is the show for you.
