Bullet to Beijing (1995)
Oh Harry, no...
If they wanted to make an ironic post glastnost Harry Palmer film why did they not ask me to write it!
There is nothing of who Harry Palmer was in this film; it's trite, corny, contrived, and set in the worst stereotypical world.
If you like Caine being Caine in an average spy spoof played for laughs, enjoy.
The Other Side of the Underneath (1972)
There is so much more to this
I don't feel this film can be divorced from Jane Arden's evolution in to radical feminism and R. D Laing's 'Anti-Psychiatry' movement of the 60's. It is more than a film, it is a jarring polemic. Jane Arden and Jack Bond made 3 of the most unique 'art films' of British cinema: 'Separation', 'The other side of underneath' and 'Anti-Clock' (in which they experimented with and pioneered video techniques). Not a trilogy more a triptych on the sense of self, it's disintegration and the internal and external influences on that process. Where as 'Separation' can be humorous and 'Ant-Clock' dream like. 'The other side of underneath' is a dark night of the soul, the nightmare that lingers when you wake. All beyond narrative description. Caveat Inspectoris (I have never studied Latin please don't be harsh)
Bir Zamanlar Anadolu'da (2011)
Am I a way off here? Objections will not offend, but I have to ask?.
...I think I could give this film a higher rating on second viewing.
I'm a voyeur who lets a film wash over them. I am unfamiliar with film-speak. A Cinematic-Neandrathal if you like.
When I read reviews I understand them but can't produce the same words my self.
...I recall the mention of a woman early on that sparked curiosity. I'd need to see it again to say when.
And when I then sensed the protagonist is the Doctor, and it is his movie.
Did he know the deceased's wife before the murder?
Is she his ex-wife?
Am I talking crap?
Lush photography.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this again. If something about it attracts you. watch it.
