Prisoners (2013)
its a great phyco thriller with many twist in the vein of seven, hostage
FIrst let me say the trailer did not ruin the movie at all the trailer sums up the first 30 minutes of the first act in 2 minutes and then from there i was on the edge of my seat till the credits popped up.
The acting- this was the finest acting in a film that i have seen in a long time and not just by the leading man i mean every single actor and actress was on the top of their games especially Hugh Jackman the emotion and weight he brought to the film should get him a Oscar nomination and be mentioned in the same acting quality as Ben Affleck,Leo Dicaprio,Matt Damon,Daniel Day-Lewis, and the fame as Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.
The plot- the plot was intriguing to me it made me think what would i do if this every happen to me, would i be the like Jackman and take the law in my own hands or would i be like Howard and let the law finish their job.
The pacing- the pace was uneven i knew this wasn't an action movie but still the amount of fast paced scenes was far outnumbered by slow sitting in car watching suspects and talking on the phone the film could had been at least been 40 minutes shorter without sacrificing any story or plot.
the verdict- this film is an Great Thriller with Killer performances by all cast and i would definitely recommend it only if you have 3 hours to spare (10/10]
Wrath of the Titans (2012)
There's actually Titans in this film and they kick ass . (awsome!!!)
First let me say that this is no 300 or Lord of the Rings epic as the multiple trailers would have you believe but it definitely surpasses the first one in every way. Plot,acting,action,F/X,and 3D are all what you should expect from a popcorn movie like this the only thing that would have made it more entertaining would be blood and gore added to all the hacking and slashing that goes on or at least more decapitations and dismemberment's but then the movie would have lost millions due to limited viewing .
My review on the plot. (NO SPOILERS PRESENT) Many people including my-self complained about the paper thin plot clash of titans had so when I heard that Wrath of Titans was being directed by Jonathan Liebesman the directer of (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Beginning, and Battle:Los Angeles) I was skeptical that the plot was going to be any better because as good as Battle L.A was in the action, and F/X, the plot was almost as thin as Clash of Titans was but i,am happy to report the plot is a lot better in depth and they actually included Titans in the plot.
My review of the acting. The acting is a lot better than the first manly because of the writing and the script and I think Sam Worthington in maturing as an actor and as a result he gives a fine performance rivaling avatar, the only one i had any problem with was Rosamund Pike her performance as Andromeda the worrier princes was a bit wooden and not very believable but the rest of the cast was at their very best.
My review of the action and F/X. The action was top notch and non-stop and far better in every way than the first one the only thing missing was blood after the blows. The F/X was amazing nothing looked fake the creatures, the set pieces, every stick and stone, looked amazing perfect eye-candy can't wait to see it on bluray.
My review of the 3D. The 3D was applied in post production just like the first one so I was scared the the 3D was going to be a bust but to my surprise the 3D was good but no comparison to avatar or transformers 3 but all in all the 3D was good.It gave depth to the movie most of all in the action scenes when the cyclops popped on screen he literally popped out of the screen and that was amazing.
All in all this is a perfect movie to kick back relax with a large popcorn in one hand and a large coke in the other with your feet prop up on the seat ahead of you unless occupied and forget your problems for 99 minutes and after the movie you will fill as you can conquer the gods so i give it a 7 out of 10
Conan the Barbarian (2011)
Just as thrilling and fun as it is gory and violent
I got a chance to see a advanced screening of Conan last night and going in to the theater i had some doubts because for the past 10 years we have seen so many classic movie's rebooted and 80% of those movie's were the same as the original's just more violent or added special effects so naturally I thought Conan was going to make 81% but i was joyfully wrong. Director (Marcus Nispel) did a nice job putting his own stamp into the movie and not making a carbon copy of the original.
#1. The acting- the acting in this is far better than the original, Jason Momoa is great as our favorite Barbarian and to think 4 moths ago i had never even heard his name before. Now Rose Mcgowan just bugged the hell out of me with that silly make up and wooden acting so there was no tears dropped then she came to her demise. But the 2 actors who stole the picture was Ron Pearlman as Conan's father and the always great Stephen Lang, as the bloodthirsty Khalar Zym. and the rest of the cast was wonderful as well.
#2. The action- the action in this move is from start to finish and it is in your face , blood gushing, and oozing, all over the place, heads and other human remains are flying through the air and it is awesome.
all in all this is a wonderful movie to site back and eat some pop corn and forget about the rest of the world, well for at least 2hr
Ironclad (2011)
As Epic as the budget would allow, but great none the less
I rented this on itunes 2 weeks before the release date of the Bluray for $9.99 and that was the best spent $10 of my life. the action is right in your face, the acting is top-notch,but it could have been more story exspecialy the back story of Marshall played wonderfully by (James Purefoy) who should be ranked in the same bad-ass catagorie as (Russell Crowe's Maximus in Gladiator and Gerard Butler's King Leonidas in 300)but unlike those other big budget movies who had big named film studios financing them Ironclade had a very modest budget but directer Jonathan English pushed every dollar to make this as epic and authentic as possible and he did so.For fans of epic middle age warfare movies like (Gladiator,Breavheart,300,troy,kingdom of heaven,Spartacus, and , robin hood)this is the film for you their is plenty of sword fighting and more important blood and guts spraying all over the screen which is sorta uncommon to todays theatrical releases witch is made for a (PG-13) crowd like (2010's Robin hood)witch got a more violent unrated release on bluray, but Ironclade is no (PG-13) film this is a graphic, bloody, brutal, movie and it deserves the hard (R) rating in every way,so i give a 9 out of 10
Supah Ninjas (2011)
much better than commercial
i don't watch nickelodeon much anymore unless my little brother has it own but we were watching icarly and it was going of and they said, up next is supah ninjas i thought to myself that nick must haved hired elementary kids to write their shows , but reluctantly i watched it and i laughed more in that 30 minutes than 3 years of watching icarly with my brother, don't get me wrong it was corny at times and the jokes were repetitive so it could get very old fast but only time will tell. know i seen a look at the next few episodes and i seen a lot of b-list and c- list celebs including the former WWF wrestler the giant sporting a fake beard and a fake gut. so if you have nothing to do on Saturday mornings and you are 4-13 years old you will have a blast any older than that it will decide on you and what you think is funny
The Expendables (2010)
best all out action movie since the late 90's
i know most people laugh because the youngest star in the movie is 37 years old and the rest of the cast ages range from mid 40's to mid 60's and they are to old to be in action movies that's total Bull S#!t no one complained that Bruce Willis was to old to make (Live Free or Die Hard) even though he was 51 years old at the time LFODH was filming. so to all of the people who think that all this movie is a bunch of midlife crises men trying to relive their glory days as action stars in Hollywood don't go see it, but if you are a action movie junky and appreciate a movie for what it is i wold highly recommend to go see this movie when it comes out August 13th.
the action- was top notch and gritty, bullets, blood, and bodies was flying around the screen throughout the entire film, the only complaint was the camera shook a little to much but noting like (Cloverfield or District 9) but enough to make you rub your eyes a couple of times.
the acting- was better than I expected Sly's lines came out a lot smoother and clearer than in his 2008(Rambo) witch some of his lines in that was forced. My favorite performances was Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham both brought their best acting and fighting in a long time.
the cameos- was not that big of a deal, Arnold only had about 3 or 4 lines witch is still a lot more than his cameo in (The Rundown) and Bruce Willis's cameo was OK but both cameos was over played a lot on the trailers.
the plot- could have been better but still better than some of todays action movies made for teen crowds
all in all i give it a 9 out of 10
p.s-this movie is rated (R) for (Strong Action,Bloody Violence Throughout, and Some Language)wouldn't't recommend bringing any one under 17 unless they know that its rated (R) and why its (R)
The Unit (2006)
best action/drama on TV second only to 24
this is a rare TV show that doesn't come around often many action shows get green lite for a pilot episode than doesn't do well i can only name a handful that are successful like Chuck Noris's (Walker Texas Ranger),JJ Abrams's (Alias),Jerry Bruckhiemer's (csi),and Fox's (24).in 1993 it was walker Texas ranger, in 2000 it was csi,and alias, in 2001 there was 24 it is 2010 and the only;y show still airing that i named is csi all the others have ended or been canceled but i did not mention the unit because until 2 months ago i had never heard of it and i have been watching 24 on fox for years and for some reason i had no memory of seeing any commercials for the unit.so 2 months ago i was shopping in walmart and noticed TV dvds on sale the unit season 1 and 2 was in a double pack for $30 and lost was $22 per season so in the interest of saving money i was getting lost season 1 but then something in my head said get lost later on bluray and buy the unit now so i did when i got home and started watching it i was hooked in the first 5 minutes the action was phenomenal the suspense was refreshing and something TV has been lacking for a long time so in a week i finished both seasons and thought to my self wow can't wait till the fall for the new season so i looked on the internet for the fall season TV schedule and noticed that there was no unit in any of the time slots so i when to the fox web site and found that the unit had been canceled only after 4 seasons i was shocked i thought this show was something special and at least should have been on the air for 4 or 5 more seasons but i guess 4 seasons on DVD will have to do so if you haven seen a episode or maybe missed some i would highly recommend buy all 4 seasons of the unit you won't be2 disappointed so all in all i give it 10 out of 10
The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
fun for all ages, but still could have been better
i am 20 years old and i am a movie fanatic it doesn't matter if it's a old movie from the 50's in black in white i will watch it and enjoy it but lately Hollywood has tried to put so much cgi effects in every movie that comes out that it takes away from the movie, this movie is one of those movies, the story does call for cgi but not every scene calls for it, if some of todays directors would study some older techniques and tricks from some of the greatest films like Richard Donner's (The Goonies) and John Carpender's (Big Trouble In Little China) and Steven Spielberg's (E.T) and incorporate todays cgi for the big scenes and the littler scenes use your imagination like these classics then maybe some of the magic people felt in these movies you could fill again, now iam not saying this is a bad movie Nicolas Cage is wounder full in his role as sorcerer Balthazar Blake and Alfred Molina is a menacing bad guy, but not as menacing as doc ock in Sam Ramie's (Spiderman 2) but for a Disney movie he is menacing enough. the only complaint besides the cgi is it being pg i know it is a Disney movie but still i think they tried to edit it for a preteen crowd like the same thing for Jon Turteltaub's (National Treasure) both this and National Treasure had a chance of being great action movies if they had only put more action in them or had not edit the action out. all in all i give it a 7 out of 10 so if you have kids, wife or a girlfriend with nothing to do on the weekend than this movie is perfect for you but if you are going alone i would suggest skipping this until it comes out on bluray and either go see Christopher Nolan's (Inception) or Robert Rodriguez's (Predators).
Predators (2010)
not much plot, but still is ONE HELL of a movie
going into this movie i had a lot of hope knowing that Robert Rodriguez was producing Predators because he is the man behind wonderful movies like (Sin city, planet terror, the Mexican trilogy, and from dusk to dawn,) i was a little disappointed he wasn't directing this but Nimrod Antal is a OK choice i enjoyed vacancy and Armored but neither of those are sci-fi, Vacancy is a suspense thriller and Armored is a action thriller so i was curious of the direction he was going to take, sense i seen the movie yesterday my expectations going into the movie was exceeded in every way except one, no Arnold Schwarzenegger besides that it was amazing the horror and gore is finally back to the predator franchise. Predators made avp and avpr look like a bad Nintendo 64 video game, don't get me wrong avp and avpr are OK movies if you are a teen or have never seen the first two predator or alien movies but if you are a fan of the original predator movie or alien movie your mind can't imagine a pg-13 predator movie or alien movie, Predators didn't tailor or edit the movie for a teenager crowed or church group like avp did, Robert Rodriguez and Nimrod Antal took the concept of the original 2 movies and made predators similar to John Mctiernan's predator movie but its not remake or a copy its not even a sequel its more of a refresh to the franchise and to show new environments and situations for the audience to experience. the idea for predators to kidnap the deadliest humans on earth and bring them to their planet to hunt was genius so all in all i give predators 9 out 10. p.s this is a very gory frightening movie i wouldn't recommend bringing any body under 17 to see this movie with out them knowing it is rated R for (strong creature violence, gore, and pervasive language)
Jonah Hex (2010)
josh brolin kicks ass in this great action movie
i screened Jonah hex in a small theater on a cruise ship in Alaska at first i thought it was a trailer or a behind the scenes look but as i sat down the wb and DC comic logo flashed on the screen then the movie started i was shocked never have i heard of a cruise ship showing movies that haven't even been released yet.now to the movie, first let me say Josh Brolin was amazing as Jonah hex he mixed a little of Clint Eastwood's western attitude as well as his own the kick ass attitude and the get revenge story has be made before over and over again but not like this this is something special.the cgi and special effects were top notch and the acting was OK except Megan fox she's not much of an actress but dam shes hot.for guys thinking this would be a good movie to bring a date or girlfriend i wouldn't recommend it unless she is into (action, explosions, and even more action. p.s. this is a very intense and violent movie it's pg13 for (intense sequences of violence and action, language, disturbing images,sexual-content
Geronimo: An American Legend (1993)
good but not as great as the last of the Mohican's
first let me say the this is a graphic movie lots of shootouts and bloody wounds its rated pg-13 for frontier violence witch i think it should have been rated R for frontier violence.the acting was wonderful by Gene Hackman and Wes Studi, now Jason Patric was mostly bull and boring.for people looking for a accurate history movie this isn't for you but if you like a good western drama like Dancing With Wolves this is for you. now Geronimo is in no way better than The Last Of The Mohicans or Dancing With Wolves but this is a good movie to relax, kick up your feet and lay on the couch for 2 hours with family member or friend and enjoy the movie about the legend of Geronimo
Punisher: War Zone (2008)
this comic book movie kicks all others in the gut and spits in there faces
i started getting into comic book movies when i was around 5-6 years old at that time the only comic books that had been movies were superman and batman witch both are incredibly good through the eyes of a 6 year old boy then a few years past and x-men got released in 2000 i thought it was the best movie ever except for starwars then in 2002 spiderman then all the sequels started to spill out witch was good but why all were the same movie all the xmen movies are the same, all spiderman movies are the same but then the punisher was released in 2004 to me it was the coolest bloodiest movie i had ever seen because it was my first rated r movie to see then i got into the blade trilogy but something was still of with all of those other movies they tryed to appeal to all people comic book fans, little kidz, grandparents, and moms, but then punisher warzone was released i started with blood, gore, and action and ended with blood, gore, and action it stade true to the comics without the studio editing all of the violence witch makes the punisher the punisher the first one with Thomas Jane as the punisher was brutal but it was edited and cut so not only the true fans would like it but so everyone would like it. now ray Stevenson is no Thomas Jane, Thomas Jane brought emotion and cunning to his role ray Stevenson brought brutality and vengeance to his role.so if you are a man between 15-70 years old i would recommend buy or rent it all others rent spiderman
The A-Team (2010)
one hell of a action movie
when i first heard that the a-team was get the silver screen treatment i was very excited and curious at the same time i wondered if it was going to be like most of the 70's and 80's TV shows turned theatrical like (dukes of hazard,Charlie's angles, and starsky & hutch), but then i heard Joe Carnahan the directer of the action movie (SMOKIN ACESS) and the tom cruise produced crime thriller (Narc) then i knew it was going to be produced by the scott brothers Tony Scott and Ridley Scott whom both are movie directors Tony is most known for enemy of the state and Ridley has many hits such as (Gladiator, blackhawkdown, alien, hannible, and the renewal of robin hood witch was released this may)so knowing this i was so excited and after seeing it at 11:45 am today i was blown away the action was over the top and chaotic the acting was OK but not great except for Liam neeson who for the past 5 years has been one of the best actors in Hollywood he was born for that roll like Clint Eastwood for harry Callahan in the dirty harry movies.now for people who like a nice quiet action movie with minimal explosions and gun fights go see the karate kid but if you like (bad boys 2,any mission impossible movie, the losers, live free or die hard,)you owe it to your self to take two hours out of your weekend and go see this movie with your friends, teen family members,or maybe even your girlfriend
Shrek Forever After (2010)
this movie is so far far away from being as bad as the third
i saw shrek forever after at a private screening in my hometown and i was so happy to see some of that more mature humor that is in the first 2 movies, shrek the third was your normal bull, boring, kid flick.the 3d was amazing the story was OK but a lot of TV shows and other movies have use the make a wish and regret it later plot.for people who are mike myers fans you will love this movie he has a very good talent for voice over work you can tell he enjoys it now for Cameron diaz i don't know in the first shrek she played her part wonderfully in this one it seems she rushes her lines and she fakes her emotions i know she is a acter and that's her job but she is much more believable in the first shrek.now what can i say about Eddie Murphy he is the best person, actor, comedian,to play the role as donkey, donkey's character is fast talking, cocky, witty, funny, and at times serious just like Eddie Murphy .and last but not least puss in boots played by Antonio banderas in my opinion puss stills some of the spotlight from donkey witch is perfect because they incorporate that into the movie with donkey and puss always arguing and competing for attention from shrek.in short if you are into fairy tales, love stories, adventure, and having a good time than i would recommend go see this movie whether in 2d or 3d this is a wonderful movie.
Robin Hood (2010)
good but no gladiator
when i first saw the teaser trailer for this movie i thought it was going to be a another great graphic, epic, from ridley scott then 1 month later it go a pg-13 rating then i knew it was about trying to get as many people into the theater as possible but that's OK because some of the most epic movies are pg13 like {lotr-return of the king, titanic, pearl harbor'}now don't get me wrong this is a violent movie the first battle scene when king Richard is trying to sack the stronghold people are get slaughtered by arrows but no blood was show there were several head and neck shots including one main character getting shot through the throat by a cook with a crossbow, people who are fans of ridley scott's kingdom of heaven will notice many of the deaths and battle scenes are identical to robin hood just without the blood and gore.the acting is brilliant by all of the cast except for a few lines Russell crow has like he is in battle on his horse and yells to a solder my sword, throw me my sword and the solder throws it and crow spins the sword in his hand and slices an enemy that is the same thing he does in gladiator when maximus has his first battle in the in the arena in front of the empire.some people complain that it is a medieval movie with 21 century camera work and editing like the transition between slow motion and fast motion but if you you have seen braveheart and loved it than robin hoods slow motion is the same.the story is a lot better than any robin hood movie in the past but there is some plot material that does not fit the movie quite right.so is robin hood worth going see in theaters yes, is it worth buying on bluray yes, is it better than gladiator no.
Starship Troopers (1997)
blood, boobs, and more blood, would u like to know more
this movie is for fans of movies like terminator, starwars, tremors, alien, and, savingprivateryan, this is alien bugs at war with all humans they attack so we attack.this movie has anything you like about movies except family friendly scencs blood gushes from start to finish main characters have sex their are shower scencs with lots of boobs so parents be-warned nudity and gore are very, very, frequent throughout the movie.know for people who are fans of huge plots and twist in movies this might not be for you the plot is simple the bugs decided to attack earth so we attack back.the special effects are to notch for the budget they had it's no titanic or avatar but it's good but one brief part of the movie were a space station's turrants are firing looks so real.the acting is so,so some of the lines casper van dein has is out of place for how he acts.i recommend this movie for someone who wants to relax and eat some popcorn on the coutch and watch bugs get butchered so please if you haven't seen it rent it. p.s throughout the whole movie there is a news channel that pops up and tells you what is happening it is a little corny but for people who have scene robocop and liked the news reals in it it wont bother you so if you want to know more rent it or buy it.
The Losers (2010)
one good action movie
First i would like to say that this movie has a lot of action scenes and plenty of funny, funny, moments but the story is a little on the simple side and short runtime only 1 hour and 38 minutes .plot they are betrayed on a mission and they wont revenge. now i know that many people disliked this movie but me and my 14 year old brother loved it.parents with kids under the age of 13 should know that this is a action and somewhat violent movie but no blood or gore but still violent.this movie is a action/comedy so people who like the rundown movie with the rock will love this movie. this review is simple to tell you that this is a movie to go see when you want to laugh and enjoy 1hour1/2 of explosions and gunfights
