Lift (2016)
Excellent indie film, darkly funny and very touching
Had the pleasure of seeing Lift at the Indie Cork Film Festival, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Based around 6 characters stuck in a lift, it mixes dry wit, dark humour, snappy dialogue and an interesting narrative structure and ultimately it's a very original film. It also is very touching at times, with an absolutely excellent performance from Gerard McSorley(and in fact the entire cast give great performances)! The film is quite stylized and at times feels like watching a play, but this doesn't detract from the film in any way. The plot never drags considering much of the film takes part in a lift and it keeps your full attention throughout it's running time(which is also not overly long and stays in tune with the pacing). Great production value too, with especially nice camera-work. It also never lapses into cliché which I felt is one of the best things about the film, which again goes back to the excellent plot/writing. If you get a chance to see this film do your self a favour and watch it, it's a really enjoyable watch and well worth your time if your at all a fan on dark/off kilter comedies or Irish made films in general!
Alien³ (1992)
Better than the first two
(BTW, I'm 13) I had seen the first two (thought no. 1 was a quite slow) and enjoyed them. I read reviews of Alien3 and got the idea it was crap. In my opinion, it is better than the first two, and is a brilliant film on any scale. And I read reviews that said "it didn't have the suspense or horror of 'Aliens', and that the plot was bad". WTF??? Alien3 was way more suspenseful and scary. The plot was great, as well as the acting, and you cared about the character more than you did in 'Aliens' (like those stupid Marines). I have not yet seen Alien Resurrection, but have ordered the 'Alien Quadtrilliogy' box set. I think Alien3 is the most underrated film ever, and can't understand why people hate it. I just can't figure out how Alien fans could fail to like it. Weird. Anyway, if you haven't seen it, have you expectations low, because for some reason, people don't like it.
Space Chimps (2008)
How is this film rated so low?
When I saw this film in the cinema I loved it and now I have the DVD. It is just brilliant. It's just so funny. How can people not find the main monkey not Hilarius? He has the best lines and is a total twit, and is very funny. I was very surprised that it was rated so low, and after reading other reviews it seemed like people didn't find it funny. Their opinion (not a very good one, mind). If you haven't seen it, you might hate it but you might love it and think it's great. (nothing to do with film now) IMDb! How are we supposed to write 10 lines about a film? Come on! who wants to read a long review? Make it 3 lines! Sheesh!
The Cat in the Hat (2003)
Why dose this film have such a low rating?
This is a film that is so funny that you can watch it again and again. It's very funny, has some good actors and is written by Mike Myers! What could go wrong. I know that some people hate it because of how it's nothing like the book and the cat is sleazy, but just forget about the book and have fun with it. IT'S GREAT!!! Have a sense of humor!
By the way, IMDb, WHATS WITH THIS 10 LINES THING??!!?? HOW CAN WE DO THIS WITHOUT JUST BLABING? So now I will just say boring stuff. So it good. it good it good it good it good it good it good it good This is a film that is so funny that you can watch it again and again. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
I Can Watch This Film Again And Again
This is one of the rare films that if I see it one day I could watch it again the next day. I know that a lot of people hat it and thats fine with me. I don't care if you hate it. But personally I think it is just one of the funniest films ever. I mean, the part in the RV is a bit much, but other than that it a riot. What makes it so good is the fact that he never comes out of character, no one realizes he's an actor (even though Borat was in Da Ali G Sho and Movie) and just how funny he is. If you think the character Borat is sexsist, racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic and rude, you are kinda right. But NOT Sacha Baron Cohan. He is just getting a point across that exposes all those thing in the U S and A. If you hate it, Fine, but please don't spoil this fab movie for us. Oh, and if you get the DVD, there is so much more to look forward to, even in the menu. Thanks, Arran.
