Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021)
Mind Candy
Some song writers like John Lennon and Bob Dylan have laughed at attempts to make sense of some of their stranger lyrics. Same principal with "Prisoners of the Ghostland". Those watching it in hopes of the usual filmic ingredients - plot/understandable dialogue/things that make sense - will be quickly disappointed.
Some movies should just be experienced and this is one. Like a fever dream come to life, "Prisoners" is a candy-apple, sparkle coated deam/mare come to life. The colors are incredibly deep. Many scenes are nearly delusional. Cage does what he does best - work right on the edge of diving deep into over-acting hack territory and pulls out a performance only he can do - sincerely unhinged, often saying more by just reacting silently than pages of dialogue could do.
I like many big, mainstream films. I like heartfelt dramas, some to the point of schmaltz. Comedies. Documentaries. But I'm always looking for something totally off the rails. As long as it's done well, I'm all in.
"Prisoners of the Ghostland" is a very well done, off-the-rails film.
Games People Play (1980)
Great Fun
I was featured in one of the segments of The Games People Play. The DJ Invitational. I was working at KJR/Seattle at the time. I actually won the silly thing. Received a strange trophy (I still have it), a few bucks and a bunch of memories.
