Winter's Tale (2014)

Loved It

As the reviews indicate either you'll love it or hate it. I loved it, my wife hated it. Quite a turnaround considering I wanted to see Robocop, but it was her turn to pick. Slow and confusing in the beginning but picked up speed after the first encounter of Peter and Beverly. The Characters were immediately likable and the two child actresses were captivating. Russell Crowe was great as Demi-Demon Pearly Soames. The visuals were terrific. It kind of made me think of Titanic with Demons, Angels and even a Pegasus replacing the Boat. All under the winter NYC backdrop. Pay attention to the dialogue because there were several of those "oh wow - that's what that meant" moments later on.

This movie was ummm...interesting. There are 26 Segments: one for each letter in the alphabet ranging 1 to 5 minutes in duration. Given the short span of time, if you want storyline and character development look elsewhere. The goal here is use the limited time frame to elicit a "Wow" or "WTF?" response from the viewer. In fact 'W' stands for 'WTF' in perhaps the craziest segment of all. The 'F' segment wasn't your average piece of cinema either but find out for yourself. I found it weird, silly, obscure and often stupid but curious to see what the next segment brings. Spoiler Alert: I could have done without a decapitated infant and recurring scenes featuring abused animals.
