The Bay (2012)
Shockingly bad and a complete waste of time
IMDb really need to add an option for minus stars. I spent most of the movie thinking about how I wanted to describe how bad this movie is in my review! The basic description for this movie is definitely a lot more interesting than the actual movie itself. I couldn't help wondering where they got that from, as well as the idea that this movie is somehow classified as a horror. Sure there were a couple of rather disgusting scene's but hardly anything that would put this into the horror category. Perhaps they were referring the acting or basic lack of coherent story. When you are hoping the entire cast of the movie dies, you know there is definitely something wrong. An hour and 20 minutes of my life that I can never get back!
The Shrine (2010)
Really? Utterly boring!
What the hell? I have been looking at other peoples lists of good horror movies trying to find something that will terrify me and shock me. Sadly it seems that these lists are useless. I am going with it all being very subjective like wine! That being said, definitely better on the production side than some rubbish movies (one of which I have reviewed). But still just not even remotely engrossing. My cellphone could work out the end of the movie and it's the most backward piece of rubbbish ever invented. Bad acting, bad script. Bad movie. Predictable, boring, and just plain stupid. Which is sad because I really like Aaron Ashmore and was hoping for more from him, I can see he is trying but not nearly hard enough. Come on people, I am all for a low budget horror but at least make it interesting. Another waste of time in my books.
YellowBrickRoad (2010)
What the hell?
Firstly let me start with the genre of this film. Definitely by no means is this a horror. I wouldn't even know how to class this film at all to be honest. Someone commented that the first 110 min are really good and then it goes downhill. Honestly from the first minute you are greeted with the worst production values I have ever seen. Bad acting, bad editing, no story to speak of. One of the worst movies I have ever seen.
It took me several hours to just finish the god awful train-wreck because I got so bored. I kept stopping to go have a few beers in the hopes that a slightly drunker version of myself would enjoy the rest of the movie. No such luck. Stay well clear of this mess of a film. What a waste of something that sounds like it could have been so interesting if someone else was given the premise and asked to write a story around it! Avoid at all costs.
Grave Encounters (2011)
Scared the hell out of me!
By no means does this movie bring anything new to the 'found footage' style movies. The characters are pretty forgettable and I didn't feel like I really cared if they lived or died. The story is severely lacking and the cast were pretty bad.
But somehow they managed to put all of that together and scare the crap out of me! Honestly haven't been quite so tense after a movie in a while and I am a rather seasoned horror movie fan. Lots of tension built with some jump in your seat moments. But overall I definitely think it is worth checking out if you are looking for a good scare. Probably on same sort of level as paranormal activity but with a lot more activity and tension! 7 out of 10
