Bluey: The Sign (2024)
They should've moved
I love Bluey, always have, but the message wasn't right. Yes, the ending almost made me tear up, it was very close, I loved the whole episode. I even loved the ending but it was the wrong message. I do agree with the lower star reviewers that they should've moved. I've moved before, and while it wasn't very hard for me, other people have it way worse. I do agree that this episode should have taught people that moving is okay. And it would have opened up a lot for the plot and everything since bingo and bluey would have to make new friends and everything. Like I said, I love bluey, I always have, but this episode should've ended differently. They should've moved. It would've hit harder than the ending they came with.
Also on a side note, it's not that easy to remove your house purchase, and it's not that easy to unlist your house from the market, just saying.
9/10.
Out of My Mind (2024)
Never read the book, but the movie was decent
I had the opportunity to watch this at the Sundance Film Festival and to meet the director and the star of the show. I didn't think it was too bad. It was definitely a feel good movie. I think overall it was good, but I have one thing wrong with it. Movies never showcase school correctly. In this film, all the kids are completely rude to her and don't respect her at all. And maybe it's just the school I go to, but that's not the. Case at all. We still respect the disabled. They are still people. I just felt like this movie didn't capture school realistically. But also these kind of movies are really just there to guilt you into liking it. Not saying this movie was bad, because it wasn't, but it's basically saying, if you don't like this movie, you don't support people suffering from cerebral palsy. Again, not saying this movie WASNT good, it was, but it does guilt trip you a little bit.
But that's about it. I'd give it a solid 7/10. I also never read the book, so that's another factor for someone else on here to cover.
Skinamarink (2022)
This content isn't fit for theaters. It would work better as a short YT series (heck)
I kinda sorta knew some stuff going in, but not enough. The first half was very slow. VERY SLOW. This whole movie was around 25-30 mins too long, but there is a purpose for the lingering shots. It's to build suspense. I did love the slow burns because I personally think jump scares are cheap, but these jump scares were good. But the interesting cinematography... I liked it and hated it. I liked it because I understood how it benefits the plot, but I hated it because I'm used to seeing the whole picture.
This film definitely requires patience, since it's an hour and a half of just grainy footage staring at walls and dark hallways and TVs the entire time, but let me tell you...
It REALLY picked up in the second half. The best jumpscares are in the second half. The best slow burns are in the second half... the ending, holy cow. I didn't expect that ending.
This type of horror is personally my favorite, but I don't think it's fit for theaters. I think analog horror is best when they make short YT series (Backrooms, Mandela Catalogue, etc)
I enjoy movies more when they have snippets of this analog feel, but when you do it for an hour and a half, you're gonna need patience.
6/10 when I first watched it and didn't fully understand the plot
8/10 the real plot and lore is so crazy that I bumped it up by 2
All in all, the first half was boring, second half was way good. But there are important plot details in the first half so you can't exactly skip it... take that how you will.
Bottoms (2023)
Who wrote this film? Who hired this director?
What the heck? Okay here's the thing... I am fine with queer characters and all that... but a fight club???? To have sex before graduation??????? Bruh. That is by far, one of the dumbest plot lines I've ever heard. Who wrote this? Who directed this? Fire them right now. Make sure they can't get any more jobs in the industry after this mess of a film.
But also the ending. The ending was probably the worst part of the movie. It was so dumb. The girls went onto the football field and KILLED those jocks??? No, no, no. I know this is meant to be a comedy, but it wasn't funny in the slightest. It was cringeworthy at best.
Don't waste your time on this one. I wish I didn't.
1/10.
[Rec] (2007)
One of the most realistic horror films I've ever seen
I normally write reviews on here tell people what I thought of the film, not to necessarily bad mouth. But today I'm here to tell the one star review people one word: Really?
I loved this movie. In fact, I loved it so much, i decided to write an honest review. There was only one thing i found wrong with this and why i rated it 9. They didn't explain why the kid took so long to turn rogue and the adults didn't. The adults took a max length of one minute to start tearing faces apart, but the kid was apparently already bit from the beginning but didn't show until they brought it up, especially since the found out it transferred through saliva and started with the kids dog... if they would've explained that I would've rated this a 9.
This is by far the most realistic "zombie" movie I've ever seen. Went from a regular operation to a fight for survival, and I've read a few reviews that say it was just screaming the entire time... answer me this one star reviewers: if you were in that situation... a human being started biting people in the face and eating them alive, literally turning into zombies, would you not be screaming and running for your life? This movie is terrifying because it is realistic, and how realistic it is is actually truly, truly, terrifying. I got attached to the characters I needed to get attached to, like Manu, the main girl, and the freaking cameraman!
There was a slow moment in the middle, which is also why I rated it 9... but get past the interviews, and the movie takes a twisted turn and you will be on the edge of your seat the whole time.
At the end, when they are in the last room, and they turn on the night vision and they see the person hunting them with a hammer, that part was one of the most terrifying scenes I've ever seen.
The acting was incredible, the story was realistic and incredible, I loved almost every second of this film.
Just get past the part in the middle when they are interviewing people and it will be worth it, I promise. Also, if you don't like horror, for the love, don't watch it and rate it 1. That's a stupid thing to do. This film is for the people who are real fans of horror, which I am, which is why I loved it.
9/10 would recommend to anyone who loves horror.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Like a modern version of crime and punishment
Oppenheimer. Sure it was slow for a little while, but Christopher Nolan needs the time to develop things. And even though I didn't quite get through the entire 3 hours, though I was close (and it was also late and I wanted to go to bed), I thought it was still very well done.
This movie isn't necessarily just about the development of the bomb, no, but it's also about the emotional damage and regret and the horrific truth the people who built it face. Throughout the film you see Oppenheimer as he's building in, and he seems fine, but after the trinity test (which, by the way, that scene was amazing) he started seeing the bomb for what it really was. A destroyer. He realized what he had made and he started regretting it. Especially after the second best scene in the movie when he's talking to the people in the conference room and he starts experiencing these withdrawals with his emotions and his mind, and he walks out and sees a man who helped him vomiting... this scene was so good because it shows how much of an impact this had on them. They realized they made something that can potentially kill millions.
So for those people who say this movie doesn't have a theme, it actually has two. The development, and the emotional damage.
So this film was actually like a take on crime and punishment, which I thought was pretty cool.
Nolan has always been one of my favorites, and he didn't disappoint. The only two bad things about it are the runtime and the sex.
But otherwise, it was good.
Now, if you don't think you can sit through 3 hours of a historical drama, then don't watch it. And don't watch it just because you feel like you should, watch it if you want.
I enjoyed it, even though I didn't quite finish it (30 mins left)
8/10.
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Blair witch... or no Blair witch?
I watched this film for the first time a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it very much. Let's start with the pros.
-For such a low budget, this film was excellent.
-The acting was very realistic (since the directors really put the three teens in the woods at night and basically made them go insane)
-The story isn't actually about the Blair Witch, and that's why the ending was so good. (Go watch Film theory in this movie. Then hopefully you'll see the entire other meaning behind this film. So much more makes sense after watching that video. The fact that this movie wasn't actually about the Blair Witch... it was really about these two guys plotting a murder against this girl and using the Blair witch as a cover.
-Realistic script. I mean, tell me if you were in that position, dark woods.... All alone.... Hearing strange noises.... Seeing strange occurrences. Tell me you wouldn't be going mad, swearing left and right. I don't know why so many people hated the teenage swearing and anger, but it's actually completely realistic.
-Found footage. Found footage was NEEDED for this movie to be good. It would not have had the same effect if it wasn't found footage. We feel like we are really there with them. And yes, there are shaky parts, but honestly, and I'm sorry, if you don't like the shaky parts, don't watch this film. Or just deal with it. The found footage really adds the realistic elements to this film and that's why it's so good.
Cons.
-Horrible lighting. You would think that these filmmakers would know a thing or two about exposure or shutter speed or something. But things were ridiculously overexposed the whole time. Although they were using black and white for their documentary so lighting didn't matter that much in the long run. I guess the overexposure is just a me thing.
-The boys didn't have a clear motive. If that hidden meaning behind the film is true, then what was their motive for killing her? I mean, they went through that entire plan just to kill her in the house. Why?
-Sure, you don't see the witch. Maybe it's because there never really was a witch. Maybe it really is because the cameraman didn't pan to the left by accident. But to be honest, maybe the ending is better that way. Sometimes the scariest things is what our imaginations come up with.
Can't think of anything else to say about it, I loved it, and everyone who says they didn't probably either hates horror films like this, or they have an attention span of 5 minutes.
But on the contrary... I loved it, 8/10.
The Guilty (2021)
Jake Gyllenhaal with another amazing performance
I loved this movie. The intensity was over the top, especially at the end, the acting was amazing. The story was very interesting. I loved the call, and this was just like that except for the fact that it was completely from the operators point of view. It showed very little to none of the actual abduction and I found that very interesting . If Jake Gyllenhaal hadn't been casted, this movie would've been very boring, so I'm giving him a 9. I'm not an expert on 911 operators scripts and stuff, but it seemed realistic, but I'm not basing my score on that. I'm mostly basing it on the amazing performance Gyllenhaal put on for us.
Overall, I really liked this movie, and mostly it's because of Jake Gyllenhaal and his amazing performance.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Would've been a perfect movie if it wasn't for...
I absolutely loved this movie, the idea, the theme, acting was incredible. It was completely original, and you didn't see the twist coming. The story had a few loose ends that it tied up in the end.
This would've been a perfect movie if it wasn't for the sex.
If you're gonna put sex in movies, you need to have a good reason. This movie didn't have a good reason. That scene where the Kim family was hiding in the shadows while the Parks were on the couch watching their kid and engaging in sexual behavior, was not necessary, at least the sexual behavior was not necessary. This would've been a perfect movie without that. I'm the kind of person who doesn't like that content in movies and seeing that scene in this movie almost ruined it.
This movie was one of a kind, it was so good, but that one scene with the Parks, did not need to happen. And that is why I rated 9/10.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Another masterpiece by Christopher Nolan
One word: Amazing. Not much to say besides that.
Christopher Nolan brings us a new Batman against joker story that takes the title for best.
The idea that Batman can't do anything. The idea that joker is the best criminal.
Heath Ledger was amazing.
You're on the edge of your seat the entire time.
There are only two things I'm complaining about and that stopped me from rating it a 10.
1. When Batman is going to save Rachel, he could've saved both by sending teams out each way to each location, but he didn't. Why?
2. Harvey Dent blames Batman for the death of Rachel. Why? He knows perfectly well that Batman is at least trying to be the hero here. So when Batman tells him to point the gun at the people responsible, why the heck does he point it at Batman??
Otherwise, this film is, if not the best, one of the best films Nolan has brought us. 9/10.
Hereditary (2018)
Super confusing and somewhat boring
This was an interesting film. A realistic take on demons. It was violent , disturbing...everything that a good horror movie has. But it was extremely confusing. And really only the last half hour was somewhat entertaining. The first hour and a half was just the mother going to therapy and Joan's apartment for therapy and yelling at her son. The ending made no sense, I couldn't tell what was happening, why they kept cutting between random rooms and the miniature rooms. I couldn't tell what the significance the miniature models had in the story.
There were creepy moments, a few jump scares, but that's about it.
This was the first film by Ari Aster I've ever seen, but now I'm skeptical about watching Midsommer since this one wasn't great.
This was really just about how confusing it was and how the ending made no sense. I might have to watch it again to see if I can understand it. 5/10. It could've been worse.
