Missing The Best Part of a Great Story
Stephen King is such an amazing writer but I have yet to watch a production that he is involved in that isn't extremely disappointing. It's almost as if he can't see what makes his stories so wonderful. One of the best parts of this story was the character having to go back to the future to reset. I understand this couldn't occur nearly as much as it did in the book but Jake never resets. In my opinion resetting was a crucial part of the story. Also so little attention was paid to the details. They had great sets but almost every single car was perfectly restored.
Lastly I love James Franco but his dramatic acting leaves so much to be desired. Without the excellent supporting cast the series, in my opinion, would be unwatchable.
Funny Games (1997)
Intelligent, Creative and Refreshing!
Thank goodness for movies like this that don't cow-tow to middle of the road test audiences. Frightening, well-acted and very original. I am so pleased to see that the majority of the viewers rating this release on DVD are intelligent and open minded enough to understand this movie. It's amazing to me how upset some people can get because a scene happens in real time. Take a look at any classic movie pre-1970 and you will see a a very different style of movie making. Viewers are so so inundated with fast paced horror movies where people are getting their heads blown off or something pops out of the ether every minute or so that they can't give a movie a chance. There are no rules in movie making and that is the beauty of it. If I don't like a particular genre of movie I won't watch it must less make a lengthy negative comment or give a terrible review. Same thing with music. Of course you will hate a country song if you hate country music. There are plenty of movies out there for the masses so please give the rest of the viewers a chance to watch and film makers a chance to make movies for people that like something a little different.
An American Haunting (2005)
Sadly Underrated Well Done Horror Film
I feel compelled to defend this film. I can't imagine what this film did wrong to deserve such a rating. If you compare this film to other films in it's genre (horror) it is very well done. It was beautifully shot, well acted and frightening. There a many unexpected twists and turns to keep you well engrossed in the film. Rachel Hurd Wood is not only beautiful but a fine young actress. Donald Southerland delivers a superb performance as the tortured father and Sissy Spacek as usual did not disappoint. There is an intelligence to the story so if you are looking for mindless gore this isn't for you. You really feel for this family and the film does an excellent job presenting a period environment without being stilted. This film is honestly one of the best "ghost" stories I have ever seen! Don't be a lemming and buy these ratings that are not deserved.
