Chip Chilla (2023)
A Bluey Ripoff - not a bad thing
Cartoons have been imitating each other since the beginning of animation. While Chip Chilla has many similarities to Bluey (strong family themes, focus on play, animation style, music, even layouts) it's not a carbon copy. The Chilla family spends more time making literary classics accessible to children in an appropriate way. The parents homeschool their children, so there are more concrete lessons in each episode.
Many reviews claim this is a "Bluey ripoff." And it is. Chip Chilla is clearly an attempt to capture that lightning in a bottle that makes Bluey fantastic. But is that a bad thing? Hollywood does this all the time, but their formula is lackluster, at best.
Chip Chilla, in contrast, is a fun show the whole family can enjoy, just like Bluey. And if there's another show trying to be another Bluey, that's fine by me.
Monk (2002)
"There is only one...Adrian Monk."
What a fantastic show! Every episode involves a crime that is seemingly impossible to prove until Mr. Monk arrives. Tony Shalhoub was born for this role. He's hysterical while simultaneously bringing us to tears with Monk's tragic past. Alongside the stellar cast of characters is a myriad of murder mysteries. It's so much fun to fit the puzzle pieces together as the mysteries unfold. He's Sherlock and Columbo rolled into an OCD detective. There is only one...Adrian Monk.
