Flyboys - Historical inaccuracies
4 February 2007
There are a number of historical inaccuracies in "Flyboys".

In the scene where the hero looks for Lucienne, there is music coming from radio. Although radios were used in WWI, there was no voice transmission nor radio stations.

One scene has a pilot describing the Fokker Tri-Wing as being "State of the art" with "9 millimeter machine guns." The machine guns on a Fokker were 8 millimeter; 9 millimeter is a pistol round. Furthermore, the Fokker Tri-wing was not the main aircraft used on the Western Front. It became famous because the infamous Red Baron, Manfred Von Richthofen, flew it. It was also an unforgiving aircraft to fly and only the best pilots flew it.

There are other inaccuracies, but I haven't the space to write out them

Pearl Harbor (2001)
Historically inaccuracies

Army Air Force Pilots who flew for the Eagle Squadron in the Battle of Britain had to resign from the Army. They did not arrive wearing their uniform.

Roosevelt never demonstrated to his cabinet how he struggled to walk again.

In the attack scene, the Japanese planes fly over Spruance class destroyers and Perry class Fast Frigates. These are ships built in the 70's & '80's Near the end of the film, Navy nurses are being awarded the Purple Heart. this is a medal awarded to armed forces personnel wounded in battle. I don't recall seeing any nurse wounded. And no pilot would ever play "chicken" in a military aircraft
