In Search of Noah's Ark (1976)
Watch this movie and make your own decision
This movie was made in the 1970's. Evolutionists do not like this movie because it does not fit into their rejection of creationism. This movie appears to have been thoroughly researched and documented. Dr. Henry Morris a respected Christian creationist, is interviewed in the documentary. Everything re: location/size of ark is taken from the KJV Bible. Read all the comments about this movie, not just the negative ones. This is a great movie for Christian families and homeschoolers. Basically, watch the movie without any bias, look at the facts the movie presents and compare it to the Genesis account in the Bible. Look at the present day locations in the middle east. Then, make your own decision about this movie. Don't let others make it for you.
A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion (1993)
Not the series
This was a reunion movie of the Walton's Mountain television show of the 70's. It was great to see Richard Thomas return to his role of John Boy. I thoroughly enjoyed the series as a child in the 70's. However, the movie is not the series. The writers have changed the show to make it fit into the politically correct world of today. It has Erin separated/divorced from her husband and other modern day overtures. There is no mention of John Curtis or of the youngest child of Ben. They seem to have forgotten them for this movie. However, loyal viewers of the original series will pick up on it. If you're looking for the same great television experience as was present in the series, you will be disappointed.
Return to Lonesome Dove (1993)
wonderful sequel
This a wonderful sequel to the award winning Lonesome Dove miniseries in the 1980's. This sequel is perhaps, better than the original. It is definitely more family friendly. The language is more subdued. There is plenty of violence and one particular scene with Cherokee Jack is particularly gruesome. However, overall a great movie. The acting is superb. William Peterson is fantastic. Such a great dramatic actor with a quick sense of wit and comic timing. Jon Voight aptly fills Tommy Lee Jones' shoes as Captain Call. Ricky Shroder gives a great heart-filled performance as the young boy who grew up with no family to claim him. Highly recommended.
Heaven & Hell: North & South, Book III (1994)
OK but not in the same league as the first two movies
Book 3, which was aired approximately 9 years after the brilliant book 2 North and South Movie was not up to par with the other two movies. Patrick Swayze only appears at the very beginning. I believe the powers that be should've worked harder with Mr. Swayze to get him to return for Book 3. HE WAS ORRY MAIN. The absence of Mr. Swayze's brilliant performance as Orry Main was a huge mistake on part of the producers. However,it was a joy to see James Read reprise his role. Where was Lewis Smith, the original Charles? The absence of Mr. Smith also diminished Book 3. It seems to me that the writers/producers left some big gaps/questions/confusion. Why did people suddenly refer to Charles Main from Book 2 to Charlie Main in Book 3. Please be consistent. The TV romance of George and Madeline was too quick. The writers should have shown a period of years over which the romance took place as I understand the book did. This could've been evidenced by the aging of the children of George and Madeline. Lesley Anne Down did not look comfortable in her role as Madeline in Book 3. She seemed to be trying too hard. I loved the North and South movies and this one was OK. However, it doesn't come close to Books 1 and 2.
Backstairs at the White House (1979)
Wonderful movie for entire family A+
WONDERFUL MOVIE FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY. I remember watching this movie on TV, when it originally aired on TV in 1979 when I was a little girl. It had such a great impact on me that I never forgot it years later as a grown woman. I had searched everywhere for this movie. I finally came across it at a public library. Our entire family have enjoyed this movie thoroughly. It is very accurate to history. The actors for the roles were superb. Mr.Gosset and Ms. Uggams and Cole were great. Enjoyed watching all these actors in Roots and enjoyed their performances just as much if not more in this movie. I used this as an educational movie for my children. Kids do not get a lot of US history in schools today like we used to get in the 70's. The only part of the movie that I recall has bad language is in the last disc, which depicts President Truman and as I understand was true to history. However, these few words are mild today compared to other movies with inappropriate language. By the way, did you know that the producer of this movie was also associated with the Little House on the Prairie TV series? Please make more movies like these.
Gods and Generals (2003)
Gods and Generals
Great movie. It is nice to finally have a historical movie that is not loaded with sex and obscene language. It is also refreshing to have a movie that portrays Christianity in a positive light through General Jackson. Highly recommended movie. It is a shame that Mr. Turner will not make the last of this trilogy due to Gods and Generals not making enough money. I hope that someone will finish the trilogy of this civil war epic. The producers picked the perfect actors to portray these characters. It makes you feel as if you are reliving history through their portrayal. Beautiful scenery for the backdrop and great job by the young men who participated in the re-enactment of battle scenes.
